"On first approach we were very happy with the accommodation, however as soon as we entered the accommodation we were met with a very unpleasant smell… this smell intensified when we opened the toilet doors."
Was so bad we ended up going out to purchase scented candles. Owners are very aware of the sewer problem… I’m guessing that’s why there is lots of air fresheners (the cheap kind that don’t do much) all over the place! Spokes were missing from the staircase, the space was big enough for my 1year son to fit through, also had a lot of movement (seriously needs looking into) health and safety issue The jacuzzi bath
"The Chester’s was a brilliant venue for our 9 friend meeting from different areas of the UK."
The facilities were perfect, the kitchen had all the equipment we needed for our varied meals. Bedrooms had pleasant outlook over the countryside. Our bed was very comfortable, the others in the group were more than happy with there’s. Comfortable lounge with lots of space for all 9 of use to enjoy each others company. The owners were on hand to solve a tiny problem we had. I would recommend the Chester’s as a first class venue for a extended family visiting Dumfries and surrounding area.

Lovely house in a great location overlooking fields very peaceful clean and ideal for a large family celebrating an 80th birthday Would definitely recommend
"Very lovely owners have been always a phone call away with anything’s great location and very love house to be with family kids and friends."
"This is a beautiful property in a perfect location."
The town and all its amenities are close by, yet you are in the unspoilt countryside in all its glory just on the outskirts of the town. It is so tranquil. We have just celebrated our anniversary with our family. The beauty of this home is there is ample space for all 12 of us to be together, yet not feeling 'on top of each other'. The lounge is huge and has really comfortable sofas, yet there is still plenty of space. The pool room was a massive hit (especially with the gents), and the jacuzzi bath was a real treat. The main bathroom is stunning! The gardens are well kept and there is plenty of parking. This is a place we will earmark for other family functions. It was a holiday to treasure.
"Comfortable holiday home in the Summer the outlook would be great winter time of course a little bleak but the sun did shine now and then."
Beds were huge and comfortable. Overall a nice let.
"All 10 of us had a wonderful time."
We would certainly return for another holiday, and we have already recommended the property to friends.
"Had a lovely holiday."
The children enjoyed the space to play and the house met our needs perfectly; particularly the lounge , where we could all gather in the evening and the games room was also popular. Instructions to find the property easy to follow. Very little passing traffic on the minor road giving you plenty of peace and quiet. Dumfries and area is a great place to visit with beaches, forest walks and historic sites all within easy reach. Before we had got far on the journey home there were enquiries along the lines of "when can we go again", always a good sign that the holiday was a success. Not a criticism, but a suggestion that a measuring jug for liquids, some more pyrex type bowls and a set of coloured coded chopping boards would be useful in the kitchen.
"Lovely place and was better than expected."
We loved our weekend away and the host supported us with everything from activity to information needed. She was a call away if needed.
"Great house, ideal for a week long of board games with friends."
Plenty of space for the 11 of us, very comfortable, and kitchen pretty well equipped. Made good use of the large garden given the nice weather. Owner very responsive to any minor issues, and checked in with us to make sure everything was going well. House could do with a few minor repairs and updates, but over all excellent place to stay. Planning to return next year.
"Great stay for myself and 9 others, plenty room to have time together and apart garden is huge and is so peaceful and quiet."
Was great to sit and look over the countryside even in the morning making coffee the views were exceptional. The main bedroom allowed you to see the sunrise from your bed would definitely recommend xx
Thank you for your lovely comments Karen and for choosing The Chesters. Property Owner
"The Chesters is a fantastic holiday home, a wonderful place to stay."
We stayed with friends for a long weekend to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. The owners were very helpful when I contacted them in advance of our stay and left a lovely card and gift for our arrival as they knew our trip was a celebration. The accommodation was perfect for our weekend, providing plenty of space for 3 families with children to eat, sleep, play and relax. There is a large, well equipped kitchen with some basics provided should you not travel equipped as well as a lovely welcome basket including treats! Lovely bedrooms, good quality linen and towels, toiletries provided too. Generally lots of space. We would love to return and looked at future dates before leaving the property, sadly all school holidays are booked in advance for the coming year. Thank you for sharing your home :-)
Thank you Lindsey- We would love to welcome you back to the Chester's, if you have any issues with regards to booking future dates please do get in touch. Regards Sukhi Property Owner
"Property was absolutely gorgeous and my friends and I loved it, especially the large living room and pool table in the next room."
Was a great break. Owner even gave us an extra hour for check out after we accidentally slept in, couldn’t recommend enough.
Thank you Kyle - We hope you visit the area again as we would love to welcome you back to the Chester's. Regards Sukhi Property Owner

"What an amazing place to stay."
It was ideal for a family get together, with plenty to see and so close by.

"A beautiful comfortable house with easy access to Dumfries Centre."
Superbly appointed with spacious rooms, it offers luxury accommodation. A three quarter snooker table is provided in the games room with a jacuzzi bath adjacent to the upstairs bedrooms. Outside furniture is in situ and a bar-b-q although at this time of year we were unable to put it to good use. Any larger party coming to Dumfries on holiday should look no further.
Thank you so much for your comments and we would love to welcome you again! Property Owner
"It was a fantastic experience overall."
I would recommend this cottage anyone who wants to get away from the city and to be in a relaxing place for their holiday. All the rooms were spacious and clean to its highest standards. Thank you so much.

"A really lovely property to stay in and great access to bike routes and town for shopping and eating out."
The property is a bit worn and could do with some work but didn't hinder our stay and priced for this. We would stay here again and was well set up for two separate families.
Thank you so much for your feedback. Unfortunately due to the pandemic we were unable to complete the planned works for the Chesters (shortage of available tradesmen and materials) ahead of your stay. However we have now completed an update of the property which includes a complete refresh with new sofas and carpets fitted. We would love for you to re-visit and see the new changes for yourself. "Arrived to a lovely, big, spacious well equipped house."
Very clean with plenty space for a large family to enjoy time both together and time apart. Large Pool table in separate room which all the family enjoyed. Large garden for outdoor games. Excellent kitchen and dining area for cooking and eating together. Bedrooms large with ensuites and comfortable beds. Sitting room with three couches ,chair and a large television with all sky channels. Would recommend and will definitely return.
"THE POSITIVES Lovely house – great views from the balcony (wake up to baa-ing sheep in the mornings!"
) Lots of space Very comfy beds Well stocked kitchen - good quality crockery and pots + pans Full sized snooker table Lovely well maintained gardens THE 'NOT-SO-POSITIVES'’ (I don’t do ‘negatives’) Jacuzzi not working – we weren’t made aware of this even up to a few days prior to travel and had it not been for one of these feedbacks (thanks you Mrs Taylor from July 2020), we wouldn’t have been any wiser. Sykes claiming the owners never told them, owners say Sykes were informed of this. Anyway that was a big downer. Also took a few days for us to realise that the DVD player had been stolen by previous guests so no DVD player available either. They have a nice big BBQ but it needs a good clean! Sofas not as comfy as they look- they’ve seen better days and really need scrapping for a house of this standard There were a few issues with the property – a nest of insects in one of the bedrooms, bad smell from one of the ensuites (got fixed), bad smell from downstairs WC, window handle broken (got fixed), conservatory window not closing, and on the final day there was a leak in the roof. The owners were lovely and tried to help as much as they could but many of the jobs were not “quick fixes” so couldn’t be sorted during our stay. SUMMARY All in all, a very nice property which just needs a bit of TLC, and needs to be inspected thoroughly after each stay so that breakages / things going missing can be reported in a timely fashion so at least guests can be informed of them if they cannot be replaced / repaired in time. Good choice – you’ll love Dumfries & Galloway.
"This is a fantastic big holiday home for up to 12 people, boosted by a snooker/pool table and huge TV."
It is generally well equipped and the bedrooms are excellent and very comfortable. A brilliant base for discovering Dumfries & Galloway and the Solway Coast, nicely tucked away at the end of a country lane without being too remote. The only improvements I would recommend are the addition of garden furniture seating and the settees in the main room could be worth replacing soon.
"Chesters is a beautiful, very large, modern house that easily accommodated out party of nine adults."
All the bedrooms are of a good size (master suite, king size ensuite, double, twin, and triple bunk). As well as the ensuite king rooms, there was an additional fabulous family bathroom with sunken Jacuzzi bath and separate shower, plus an additional two cloakrooms. There was plenty living space so that people were not all falling over each other. The kitchen was very well appointed and there was a nice little conservatory just off. The owners kept us informed of local conditions following the recent storms and bad weather which was very helpful as we were all travelling to the house. The owners also knew we were hosting this family event for a milestone birthday and a wedding anniversary and left us some delicious goodies and decorations which were all greatly appreciated. The house is a wee bit awkward to find so if possible just type in Georgetown Road, Dumfries into the satnav and keep going all the way along. You may think you are going to run out of road but the house is right at the end on the left side. We all had a great weekend and were very sad to pack up on Sunday night.
"Well this place, it was mind blowing for us."
The size, the space, it was fabulous. There were 8 of us, 3 adults, 1 teen and 4 under 7s. We all loved it. We spent so much time in the pool room, what a great lot of fun was to be had. My 7 year old was better than me! The garden area was fab, and we walked along the roads in the evenings just watching the sheep. The kitchen was fabulous and a wonderful size, there was also a conservatory. The views were spectacular. The bedrooms were wonderful, as were the en-suites and the main bathroom. The kids loved the Jacuzzi bath. The showers were great too. I could go on and on. It was just brilliant. Oh and we were left a much appreciated welcome basket which was great, as was the kindness of the sympathy card (It had been my Grandads funeral the day we arrived) It was so thoughtful. We did struggle to find the place, it seemed to be a different postcode to the one stated on the site, it wasn't far from there but was hard to find in the dark, but the maintenance man kept in touch with us and waited until we arrived, he was lovely. Can't wait to return to this fabulous accommodation, I can't rate it high enough.

About the location

Known as the Queen of the South, Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh and is the largest town in south west Scotland. It lies close to the mouth of the River Nith as it opens into the Solway Firth. Its origins are mysterious and are believed to involve at various times the ancient Romans, St Ninian and there is evidence of King Arthur having fought battles in the area. It is also held that Malcolm Canmore and William the Conqueror met here in the 11th century and William Wallace pursued the English through the surrounding Nith valley 200 years later. Robert the Bruce killed his rival John Comyn in the Greyfriars Kirk in Dumfries and Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed in the town for a few days in the mid 18th century and the poet Robert Burns moved to Dumfries in 1791 and staying until his death five years later. Today Dumfries is a bustling popular town with much to offer the visitor. Its location makes it ideal for exploring the coastline with its sandy beaches and rocky inlets to the Galloway Hills and Ae forest offering superb walking and cycling on the famous 7 stanes trails. Visit stunning Caerlaverock Castle and Nature Reserve or indulge in some high octane excitement with the Scottish Rally based in Dumfries each summer.
