  • "Great house, ideal for a week long of board games with friends."

    Plenty of space for the 11 of us, very comfortable, and kitchen pretty well equipped. Made good use of the large garden given the nice weather. Owner very responsive to any minor issues, and checked in with us to make sure everything was going well. House could do with a few minor repairs and updates, but over all excellent place to stay. Planning to return next year.

  • "The Chesters is a fantastic holiday home, a wonderful place to stay."

    We stayed with friends for a long weekend to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. The owners were very helpful when I contacted them in advance of our stay and left a lovely card and gift for our arrival as they knew our trip was a celebration. The accommodation was perfect for our weekend, providing plenty of space for 3 families with children to eat, sleep, play and relax. There is a large, well equipped kitchen with some basics provided should you not travel equipped as well as a lovely welcome basket including treats! Lovely bedrooms, good quality linen and towels, toiletries provided too. Generally lots of space. We would love to return and looked at future dates before leaving the property, sadly all school holidays are booked in advance for the coming year. Thank you for sharing your home :-)

    Thank you Lindsey- We would love to welcome you back to the Chester's, if you have any issues with regards to booking future dates please do get in touch. Regards Sukhi Property Owner

  • "A beautiful comfortable house with easy access to Dumfries Centre."

    Superbly appointed with spacious rooms, it offers luxury accommodation. A three quarter snooker table is provided in the games room with a jacuzzi bath adjacent to the upstairs bedrooms. Outside furniture is in situ and a bar-b-q although at this time of year we were unable to put it to good use. Any larger party coming to Dumfries on holiday should look no further.

  • "A really lovely property to stay in and great access to bike routes and town for shopping and eating out."

    The property is a bit worn and could do with some work but didn't hinder our stay and priced for this. We would stay here again and was well set up for two separate families.

    Thank you so much for your feedback. Unfortunately due to the pandemic we were unable to complete the planned works for the Chesters (shortage of available tradesmen and materials) ahead of your stay. However we have now completed an update of the property which includes a complete refresh with new sofas and carpets fitted. We would love for you to re-visit and see the new changes for yourself. • "THE POSITIVES Lovely house – great views from the balcony (wake up to baa-ing sheep in the mornings!"

    ) Lots of space Very comfy beds Well stocked kitchen - good quality crockery and pots + pans Full sized snooker table Lovely well maintained gardens THE 'NOT-SO-POSITIVES'’ (I don’t do ‘negatives’) Jacuzzi not working – we weren’t made aware of this even up to a few days prior to travel and had it not been for one of these feedbacks (thanks you Mrs Taylor from July 2020), we wouldn’t have been any wiser. Sykes claiming the owners never told them, owners say Sykes were informed of this. Anyway that was a big downer. Also took a few days for us to realise that the DVD player had been stolen by previous guests so no DVD player available either. They have a nice big BBQ but it needs a good clean! Sofas not as comfy as they look- they’ve seen better days and really need scrapping for a house of this standard There were a few issues with the property – a nest of insects in one of the bedrooms, bad smell from one of the ensuites (got fixed), bad smell from downstairs WC, window handle broken (got fixed), conservatory window not closing, and on the final day there was a leak in the roof. The owners were lovely and tried to help as much as they could but many of the jobs were not “quick fixes” so couldn’t be sorted during our stay. SUMMARY All in all, a very nice property which just needs a bit of TLC, and needs to be inspected thoroughly after each stay so that breakages / things going missing can be reported in a timely fashion so at least guests can be informed of them if they cannot be replaced / repaired in time. Good choice – you’ll love Dumfries & Galloway.

  • "This is a fantastic big holiday home for up to 12 people, boosted by a snooker/pool table and huge TV."

    It is generally well equipped and the bedrooms are excellent and very comfortable. A brilliant base for discovering Dumfries & Galloway and the Solway Coast, nicely tucked away at the end of a country lane without being too remote. The only improvements I would recommend are the addition of garden furniture seating and the settees in the main room could be worth replacing soon.

  • "Chesters is a beautiful, very large, modern house that easily accommodated out party of nine adults."

    All the bedrooms are of a good size (master suite, king size ensuite, double, twin, and triple bunk). As well as the ensuite king rooms, there was an additional fabulous family bathroom with sunken Jacuzzi bath and separate shower, plus an additional two cloakrooms. There was plenty living space so that people were not all falling over each other. The kitchen was very well appointed and there was a nice little conservatory just off. The owners kept us informed of local conditions following the recent storms and bad weather which was very helpful as we were all travelling to the house. The owners also knew we were hosting this family event for a milestone birthday and a wedding anniversary and left us some delicious goodies and decorations which were all greatly appreciated. The house is a wee bit awkward to find so if possible just type in Georgetown Road, Dumfries into the satnav and keep going all the way along. You may think you are going to run out of road but the house is right at the end on the left side. We all had a great weekend and were very sad to pack up on Sunday night.

  • "Well this place, it was mind blowing for us."

    The size, the space, it was fabulous. There were 8 of us, 3 adults, 1 teen and 4 under 7s. We all loved it. We spent so much time in the pool room, what a great lot of fun was to be had. My 7 year old was better than me! The garden area was fab, and we walked along the roads in the evenings just watching the sheep. The kitchen was fabulous and a wonderful size, there was also a conservatory. The views were spectacular. The bedrooms were wonderful, as were the en-suites and the main bathroom. The kids loved the Jacuzzi bath. The showers were great too. I could go on and on. It was just brilliant. Oh and we were left a much appreciated welcome basket which was great, as was the kindness of the sympathy card (It had been my Grandads funeral the day we arrived) It was so thoughtful. We did struggle to find the place, it seemed to be a different postcode to the one stated on the site, it wasn't far from there but was hard to find in the dark, but the maintenance man kept in touch with us and waited until we arrived, he was lovely. Can't wait to return to this fabulous accommodation, I can't rate it high enough.

About the location

Castle Douglas 18 miles; Gretna 30 miles; Kirkcudbright 40 miles; Lake District National Park 50 miles;

Known as the Queen of the South, Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh and is the largest town in south west Scotland. It lies close to the mouth of the River Nith as it opens into the Solway Firth. Its origins are mysterious and are believed to involve at various times the ancient Romans, St Ninian and there is evidence of King Arthur having fought battles in the area. It is also held that Malcolm Canmore and William the Conqueror met here in the 11th century and William Wallace pursued the English through the surrounding Nith valley 200 years later. Robert the Bruce killed his rival John Comyn in the Greyfriars Kirk in Dumfries and Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed in the town for a few days in the mid 18th century and the poet Robert Burns moved to Dumfries in 1791 and staying until his death five years later. Today Dumfries is a bustling popular town with much to offer the visitor. Its location makes it ideal for exploring the coastline with its sandy beaches and rocky inlets to the Galloway Hills and Ae forest offering superb walking and cycling on the famous 7 stanes trails. Visit stunning Caerlaverock Castle and Nature Reserve or indulge in some high octane excitement with the Scottish Rally based in Dumfries each summer.
