“Address on email was confusing. ...”

Address on email was confusing. We thought the cottage was fair view house as indicated on your web site but was actually harbour house further along the road. We had to telephone owner who gave us instructions how to get there. He later text me apologising for confusion and stated that the name harbour house would confuse people thinking it was near the sea. If that is the case perhaps he should rename the cottage. Everything else met expectations.

The property

This gorgeous traditional cottage is located in the picturesque village of Motherby.

With only 7 miles to Penrith, and only a 15-minute drive to Lake Ullswater and Keswick, this cottage couldn’t be more perfectly placed to explore the beauties and attractions of the Lake District. Far View House is a comfortable and welcoming holiday home, with an amazing feature fireplace made from sandstone, and a wood burning stove.

Add in incredible views from your own private garden and the amount of attractions within easy reach, and this is a great place for a family holiday. The lounge is spacious and comfortable with that stunning feature fireplace to enjoy, and a large flat screen TV, with a BluRay player if the weather isn’t good.

The cosy kitchen/diner is beautifully finished and tiled, and a really pleasant place to eat with all the mod cons you’d expect, and you have a utility/drying room with a washing machine.

Through the utility room, there’s a lovely wet room, with a shower and underfloor heating. Upstairs, the master double bedroom has a king-sized bed and incredible views over the countryside, and there’s a pretty twin bedroom that’s perfect for the kids.

A family bathroom with a shower over the bath completes the first floor. There’s a private garden to enjoy, with dining furniture so you can eat outside and take in the incredible views. You don’t have to go far if you want to enjoy a drink or pub food, as the pub is within walking distance.

You’re also very close to the pretty villages of Penruddock and Greystoke, with beautiful village inns for home-cooked meals and local beers and ales.

And with peaceful country walks right on your doorstep, you’ll be able to walk off all that delicious food. Further afield, you can easily visit Penrith with its shops and restaurants, the Castle and Museum and Beacon Hill.

Lake Ullswater and Keswick are a quick 15 minute drive away, for more shopping, museums, parks and golfing, and of course, water sports on the lake.

If you fancy a hike, you’re close to the Caldbeck Fells and Blencathra, with stunning countryside to explore. This lovely house, set in such a pretty village, is perfect for a quiet family getaway, with so much to do and wonderful fells and hills to explore.

About the location

PENRUDDOCK

Keswick 11 miles; Penrith 6 miles.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake. Penruddock provides easy access to the spectacular surrounding Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and with the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family.
