  • "We loved our stay at Laurel Bank House!"

It is a spacious, very well equipped house, with a lovely, homely feel. The log burner is a lovely addition to cozy evenings in and the courtyard is so pretty and ideal to sit and have a coffee and a read. The hosts are very welcoming and on hand if you have any problems.

The house was immaculately clean and everything you should need. There was a welcome basket for ourselves and the dog. The owners were friendly and helped us out with a minor problem. Highly recommend

  • "Laurel Bank is a really comfortable, warm and welcoming cottage."

The rooms are large, bright and extremely well furnished. There is plenty of cupboard space (unlike a lot of cottages) for storage and everything needed to self cater. Hilary is a super host and made us and our two elderly poodles feel very welcome indeed. A superb location with views toward Blencathra and with great access to the lakes and mountains, Penrith and the Eden Valley, and the A66/M6. Thank you so much!

Hilary and Nigel have equipped the house to a very high standard and supplied some lovely treats to welcome us and our doggo. We stayed in winter and had lovely evenings by the fire after long walks. The location is great for exploring the Lakes. We had a wonderful time and we will definitely stay again. Thank you so much! :-)

  • "A very pretty and well thought out holiday house."

The dog blanket and dog biscuits were appreciated. The small courtyard is useful, but the larger shared garden at the rear of the property is fantastic - only wish the weather had been better so we could have enjoyed the garden more. The house had everything we needed for our short stay and we felt welcomed and wanted. We met with Nigel, one of the co-owners, and although Laurel Bank is adjacent to the owners' house we did not feel restricted at all. I would throughly suggest a stay here. Motherby is small, but easy to reach from the main roads and the off street parking is a great plus.

It's lovely & quiet even though it's next to a road. We did not need to use the log burner as it was warm enough without. The views from the garden are lovely & there's lots of wildlife to see, saw a red squirrel on my last day. Would definately recommend a visit

  • "We didn’t want to leave."

Laurel bank house pretty much had everything we needed for a family of five and one dog. The owners had thought of why things from the welcome basket with milk in the fridge to treats for the dog. There was plenty of space for all of us, it was spotlessly clean and the beds were some of the most comfortable we had slept on. Especially the front room to the right, I was even looking to find the mattress make. We’ve come away looking to go back again next year.

  • "Laurel House was excellent."

It felt more like a home than a holiday cottage. Everything we needed was there. It was warm, cosy, comfortable, very well furnished and extremely clean. The boot room was really good for outdoor clothing, footwear and dog gear. The private outdoor seating area was lovely, the car park a good safe place and the garden, for an early morning short dog walk, was great. The local area was peaceful and scenic, yet not far from Penrith. We would love to go there again and stay at Laurel House. Hilary and Nigel were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. They have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into making this a super place to stay on holiday. Thank you so much.

  • "10/10. Laurel Bank is the most amazing find."

It has everything you need and more for a fantastic spot to enjoy the Lakes and beyond. The house itself is immaculate and is the most well equipped house I have stayed in. The owners Hilary & Nigel have thought of every little detail. They are extremely accommodating and are there to assist with any queries and give helpful advice for attractions nearby. As you enter the house, you automatically feel welcomed and at ease. There was a welcome hamper which was filled with tea, coffee, milk, hot chocolate and more treats for both ourselves and our furry friend. The beds were extremely comfortable making it difficult to leave them in the mornings. As well as the private garden to the rear and the additional seating area at the front, there is now also a shared garden behind the house with stunning views, where you can sit to watch the sunrise come up from behind the mountains with your morning coffee and relax in the evening with the open fire pit and toast your marshmallows. Both the log burner and the fire pit were both prepared with logs and firelighters. It is a lovely base for all the family to make some wonderful memories. It is situated in Motherby, which is a very attractive and peaceful village surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside and stone cottages. There is a local pub called the Herdwick Inn, where both the food and service was outstanding. Laurel Bank now has a special place in our hearts which we will continue to stay when we visit this beautiful part of the country.
