“The hot tub area could of been cleaner and freshened up.”

A couple of floor tiles in the living area were broken bringing down the overall experience down and the mattress on the bed was very soft so found it difficult to sleep.

The property

For the ideal blend of romantic country cottage and contemporary style, the Heronry, which is just 3 miles from Longtown close to the Lake District and the beautiful Scottish Borders and within striking distance of Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall and Gretna Green, marries contemporary luxury with period charm.

Perfect for a couple who want to spend some quality time together or to celebrate a very special occasion, this lovely property is situated in the courtyard of the owner's Grade II listed mill house.

This truly is a fabulous romantic getaway at any time of year. Heronry Cottage is a single storey barn conversion that has been beautifully finished to an extremely high standard, with underfloor heating throughout and floor to ceiling windows at the rear overlooking the beck.

The spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area has lovely views over the beck - all the better to see the heron who is a frequent visitor - and is lavishly furnished.

The kitchen is luxuriously appointed with everything you need to produce gourmet meals using the superb local produce.

The super king size bedroom has a fantastic floor to ceiling picture window and a chaise longue to take in the views, while the en-suite bathroom definitely has the wow factor with a stand alone bath and a picture window for luxurious bathing.

The Heronry has all the luxury of a boutique hotel with the seclusion of a private residence. There's a patio with seating at the front of the cottage and a further seating area down by Carwinley Beck, where you can observe the local birds and wildlife in this peaceful and tranquil spot.

At night this area is illuminated, creating a fabulous spot for an evening drink after a busy day sightseeing.

For the ultimate in relaxation, there's also a private hot tub available for your use.

The Heronry also has private parking to the front of the property. There are restaurants, pubs and shops in the picturesque village of Longtown just 3 miles away.

The world famous border town of Gretna Green is just 6 miles away and no romantic break would be complete without a visit to the famous Blacksmith's Shop, now a chic dining and shopping destination. This area of Cumbria is ideal for an exploration of the Lake District, Scottish Borders, the stunning Solway coast and Hadrian's Wall.

The historic city of Carlisle is fascinating with its castle and cathedral, while Ullswater - the most romantic of the lakes - is less than an hour's drive away.

Enjoy a cruise on one of the famous steamers or take a visit to the stunning waterfall Aira Force. Whether you choose to relax and recharge in luxury at the Heronry, or venture further afield, this is the ideal getaway for a romantic weekend or to celebrate that special occasion whatever the time of year.
