  • "This is a warm and comfortable property with lovely views from the front windows."

The parking space at the back is a bit fiddly to access if your car is slightly bigger than average but it was easy to park at the front either on the grass or the road. The downstairs toilet is better suited to children as it is quite cramped and its easy to bang your head. The hot tap in the kitchen turns the wrong way so you do need to be aware of that. Most plumbers follow a protocol for taps so not sure how this has happened. If you have a dog they will love the beach which is only a few steps from the door. Very close to Dumfries and Galloway and Carlisle and the North lakes. I would be happy to stay here again if we ever wanted to revisit this area.

Thank you for your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back again soon Regards Paul Property Owner

  • "Pow-Wow Shore Cottage was an absolutely perfect choice for our dog-friendly holiday last week."

The cottage's location was perfect with stunning views of the beach and beyond. The cottage was well-furnished, very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen was well-equipped for preparing and cooking meals. We didn't venture far as we wanted a relaxed week, with daily walks along the beach which we enjoyed with our 18 month old Jack Russell. We will definitely be returning to Powfoot at some point this year and we would definitely rebook Pow-Wow Shore Cottage. Many thanks for the welcome treats too, much enjoyed with a cuppa after a nice walk on the beach.

Thank you so much for your feedback. So pleased you enjoyed my cottage. I hope to see you again very soon for another relaxing holiday. Regards Paul Property Owner

  • "We so enjoyed our break in the very cosy cottage which was so well equipped for our needs."

It is indeed a seaside haven looking onto the Solway with glorious sunrises, sunsets and amazing rainbows in-between. One tiny glitch was the difficulty opening the front garden gate. We eventually propped this open but everything else was first class..clean,comfortable, a lovely garden space to sit and watch the birds and butterflies, the views and walks on the beach. We highly recommend a visit to WWF Caerlaverock. Our Place in Annan and The Globe in Dumfries are very good places to eat. The Solway gin shop for different gins, liquers and chocolate is worth a visit.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. The gate is the original iron one from the early 1900s and does need a push sometimes to open it. I am reluctant to replace as it matches all the others in the row. I will take another look to see what else I can do to make it a little easier to open. I appreciate your feedback, hopefully we will see you again in the future Regards Paul Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time at Pow Wow cottage with two young grandsons and a dog."

A free putting and bowling green next to the cottage kept the lads occupied as did the local riverside walk complete with tree rope to swing on! Close proximity to the estuary beaches made dog exercise easy and thanks to a pair of binoculars included at the cottage there was plenty of birdwatching too. The cottage was warm and comfortable with simple decor and light airy rooms with spectacular views across the Solway Firth

Thank you for your feedback. Hopefully we will see you back very soon. Regards Paul Property Owner

  • "I was delighted to share my second visit to the cottage with two friends —and I’m so pleased they liked it as much as I did."

We had a wonderful week (despite the weather!) It was a relaxed time with the benefit of all the home comforts, the superb views and the lovely gardens. Aside from fantastic local walks, we found Powfoot a great base for visits to both Annan and Dumfries for shopping, and to Threave and Caerlaverock for birdwatching. Sunday lunch at the Powfoot Hotel and weekday lunches at The Boathouse (Glencaple) and Our Place (Annan) went down very well. We certainly hope to make further visits in future.

Lovely to hear you had a good week and enjoyed my cottage. Hopefully see you back soon for a third visit. Regards Paul Property Owner

  • "The cottage overall was clean; especially upstairs, and well-equipped."

However downstairs the mat needed a good hoover and the surfaces were dusty. I cleaned the surfaces myself with a cloth and polish which was left out, which I didn’t mind. The only bugbear we had was that the iron was totally unusable - full of dirty water and the bottom of it was badly burnt which would have transferred onto our clothes and I had forgotten the travel iron!

Sorry to hear about your experience. I will address both the cleaning feedback and of course replace the iron. Hopefully we will see you again in the future. Regards Paul Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in beautiful setting."

Small extras were much appreciated. Local hotel was excellent for lunch, dinner or drinks. Kitchen is really too smaĺl if catering for 5 or 6 people -we were 3 plus a small dog, so worked fine. Very comfortable and well equipped.

I appreciate the feedback, it is a small kitchen but with the use of the utility we have tried to utilise everything to make more space.. Ware looking if it can be planned out differently but with a supporting wall to work around it’s proving challenging. Hopefully you will stay again in the future. Regards Paul Property Owner

Some parts of the house appear to have been missed with cleaning. Cobwebs down left side of oven, some marks on walls. Lightbulb on freeatanding lamp in front room needs replacing. Some of the cups/utensils had not been cleaned. However, the location and house is fantastic and we will be back, new favourite place.

  • "The cottage was lovely, well equipped and the owners had provided 'dog things' which our Cocker Spaniel appreciated!"

The views to the beach were great even though we only had one dry day but it didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of our holiday. The wood burner in the lounge was much appreciated in the evening after several walks during the day on the beach. Due to the weather we didn't really go very far but a meal in the Powfoot Hotel was nice with 'local' beers. We would consider coming back in the spring/summer to make use of the front garden with it's lovely views.

Thank you for your feedback. I note that you scored us 75/100 i was just wondering what else we could have done to make you stay better. Thank you for staying in our cottage Regards Paul Property Owner

  • "Pow wow shore cottage was lovely, with fabulous views of the Solway Firth from the living room and 2 of the 3 bedrooms."

Clean and comfortable and in a great location close to Annan, where you can find all the shops you will need, as there are no shops in Powfoot. We went twice to the Powfoot Hotel, a short walk from the house, which was fabulous. It is very dark outside the property, which means on a clear night you can see so many stars. We had a truly wonderful stay.

Looks like you love everything about our cottage that we do. Hence the reason we bought it. Thank you for your feedback regards Paul Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely, relaxing holiday despite the mixed weather."

We didn’t have occasion to use the wood-burning stove - but it was good to know it was there! The little house was very comfortable, the views were fabulous (as were the night skies) and the local visitor attractions were varied and welcoming, from the Distillery to the museums, the shops and eating establishments. It was a real treat to have the beach virtually outside the door - and quality hard flooring made it easy to sweep up any sandy debris very easily. The gardens (front and back) were gorgeous and full of plants that attracted bees and butterflies. It was lovely to sit outside with morning coffee or an evening night drink and simply watch and listen. The sloping ceilings in the bedrooms were an issue for a 6’4” husband, but we coped. A very minor point - some of the photos are a little out of date and do not do the gardens justice; they also show the old dining room set up; there is now an additional chair in the sitting room. We’d be very happy to visit again!

Hi Jackie, We’re so glad you had a lovely break and thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We do continually update the cottage for our guests to make sure there is everything for a comfortable stay. We too find it very relaxing to sit in the front garden watching the world go by and chatting to whoever passes! We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Seating in the living room could be more comfortable and if 6 people staying there is only seating for 4 in the living room

Hi Gareth, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I will certainly pass your comments on to our cleaners so they can make sure they are addressed. With regards the seating - whilst the cottage does not allow for as many as 6 to book, and there is sufficient for 5, I will look into the seating arrangements for the living room and see how we may improve them. We trust you had a lovely break and we hope to welcome you again. Kind regards, Debbie Property Owner

The town of Annan, a former harbour, lies on the banks of the River Annan, in East Dumfries and Galloway, and is steeped in history, with the area once the site of Roman camps and the workplace of the writer Thomas Carlyle. Each year, the town celebrates the Riding of the Marches, in honour of the Royal Charter bestowed by King James V, which involves parades, massed pipe bands and competitions. The area around Annan has many small towns, picture postcard villages and hamlets, plus beautiful unspoilt coastline, with sandy beaches and hidden coves. Visit nearby Caerlaverock Castle, one of Scotland's finest ruined castles or Annandale Distillery. Take a day trip and marvel at the majestic architecture of the grand abbeys of Melrose and Jedburgh or visit the northern Lake District and the historic Hadrian’s Wall.
