  • "Arrived to warm, cosy and spacious cottage."

Comfortable beds. Secluded, quiet location within easy reach of Solway coast and it's many villages.

  • "Very comfortable warm cottage, quiet even though there was a main road just outside."

Summer months it may be busier. Dark skies were great for the astronomical telescope.

  • "Lovely setting close to the shore with lovely walks on shell beaches ."

The surrounding area is very beautiful great area for walking and exploring land and sea . Secluded peaceful cottage with lovely little garden and seated area . Roomy kitchen with good facilities . Some of the beds could have been more comfortable . Worth noting that some mobile networks don’t work there . Exit by car is tricky blind exit onto a reasonably busy road .

  • "This is a lovely cottage - clean, warm, comfortable, well-appointed, and very peaceful."

It is a fine location in the fields and has good views all round. The plot benefits from the sun all through all the day, from early morning to late evening. As elderly people, we were unable to utilise the upper storey, due to the lack of suitable handrails on either side of the stairs. There are two winding elements to the staircase, at top and bottom, and we found these unable to be negotiated with confidence. However, this did not spoil our holiday in any way, as there are only two of us, and the ground floor has everything we needed. Younger people may well not have this problem.

  • "Spotlessly clean."

Super friendly and helpful home owner. Beautiful garden and friendly cows visit over the fence! Super location for exploring the surrounding villages and coastline. Would thoroughly recommend: Carsethorn, Kippford,Rockcliffe and Kirkcubright. The road was busier than normal and would need monitoring for young children.

  • "A beautiful little cottage in a very picturesque rural area."

Perfect for couples, or a small family looking for a 'home from home'. It is so well equipped with everything, you could just arrive with your groceries and enjoy the location, or a short drive to Southerness you will find a minimarket, takeaway and the Paul Jones hotel and restaurant providing superb food. A great base for travelling further afield, knowing that you'll return to your comfortable retreat. It was lovely to meet the owner who called in shortly after we arrived, to make sure everything was ok and we had found everything we may need. Nice to hear a bit about the cottage's history and really appreciated the fancy biscuits and elderflower pressé! Thank you so much. Highly recommended.

The accommodation was exactly as advertised and had everything required to be a ‘home away from home’. It was so peaceful and serene and was a 20min drive from supermarkets etc. Overall would stay there again!

About the location

SOUTHERNESS

Castle Douglas 19 miles; Dalbeattie 13 miles; Dumfries 16 miles.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.
