  • "Amazing stay at the faraway cottage - the hosts were so accommodating and always happy to help."

The bed was really comfortable, and the shower was absolutely amazing! Beautiful location, just a touch out of the way if wanted to go to the lakes but obviously that is no detriment to the faraway cottage; just make sure you’re happy to drive everywhere before booking! WiFi was poor, but we didn’t go for that so it wasn’t an issue. All in all an amazing stay at the faraway cottage! Thank you!

  • "Wow!!!"

!! We have just had the most brilliant 3 nights stay. After a dismal year of not going anywhere we stumbled on this cottage and it just looked so quaint. It exceeded our expectations, it is gorgeous, full of charm. The 9 month old cows had just been let out into the field for the first time so was quite comical watching them. They became confident for a stroke. The walks to the river was hilarious as I got stuck in mud, saw wild deer, Hare, Woodpeckers and the peace of this place is glorious. Julie & Tony were super friendly, and they laughed as there I was at a dairy farm but petrified of cows

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Faraway Cottage."

It’s in such a peaceful location with far reaching views of the countryside. The young cows next to the garden kept us very entertained in the evenings chasing pheasants! The cottage was immaculate inside and had everything we needed to make it feel homely. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. We would love to return and highly recommend it if you’re looking for peace, quiet and lovely walks from the doorstep. Thank you.

  • "This is a great location, very quiet, friendly owners."

We marked it down on comfort solely because of the settee, otherwise, the property was clean, fresh and warm, with good facilities. One thing to note, the WiFi is only sufficient for e mails and social media. Anyone taking games consoles or watching online films/tv would struggle. I suspect the band width for the whole area will be low as I suspect cable broadband hasn’t reached them yet. Def recommend as a base to explore from. With easy reach of the lakes, coast, Kielder forest and Hadrian’s Wall.

  • "The cottage is perfect for completely relaxing and restoring sanity!"

The bed was very comfortable and lounging in front of the wood burning stove was a real treat. On arrival there were “ treats” left for us in the kitchen and everything we needed for our three night stay. The views from the patio doors were lovely and apart from spotting the odd cow or car in the distance, completely undisturbed. Waking to birdsong was a particular plus for me as was watching the beautiful sunset. We ventured out once to Brampton which was a lovely little town with antique shops, cafes and a food hall, so not far to go if something was needed but we loved being in the cottage so much we hurried back. The surrounding woodland is beautiful and a walk after breakfast on Sunday through the woods and down to the river, was very peaceful. Met the owners Julie and Tony briefly and they were as welcoming and pleasant as the cottage would suggest. Helpful and on hand but not intrusive. We have stayed in many cottages over the years but this is definitely our favourite and we shall return.

Julie and Tony are friendly and welcoming and recommended places to visit. The woodland is first-class and it was lovely walking along the farm lane to the woods hearing lots of birds in the diverse hedgerows and seeing many swifts (I think!) overhead. Great to stay at a place which is making space for nature.

  • "Everything about our too short stay was perfect, the cottage, location, facilities and hosts."

the only minor problem (and it is minor) was the settee was a bit small for 2 adults on long winter evenings, not a problem in warmer months when I am sure we would have sat outside taking in the beautiful surroundings and the peace and quiet. we hope to return in the summer and maybe even try the tree house ;-) thanks again to Tony and Julie and we hope you have not noticed the missing baby Belgium blue we sneaked into the car.

  • "Faraway Cottage is a gorgeous place to stay, it is slightly more remote than we are used to, but still only a few miles drive from various town centers."

This was a very relaxing stay for us, but far from boring! We were given the opportunity to meet some lovely little baby cows, we bumped into some deer, we went fishing on the river for a morning/afternoon, and despite not catching supper, it was a beautiful place to spend the day. We also visited Carlisle, and made a trip to Edinburgh during our short stay too. This cottage is a perfect place to come 'home' to after you've finished exploring for the day, it is wonderfully clean, and finished to an excellent standard. If you ask us, being able to sit in front of the fire in the evening, and having a coffee in the morning overlooking the fields were our favorite parts of each day. Tony & Julie are great people too, very warm, welcoming, and helpful - Tony even took the time to guide us down to the river. We don't usually visit the same place twice, but we both enjoyed our time here so much, that we will be booking again!

The cottage was comfortable, well laid out and a perfect retreat away from the city. They were very welcoming and left some goodies for our arrival. We walked around their land, down to the river following their suggested route and saw lots of wildlife Inc wild deer. We were able to help feed the calves one night as well. We took a trip to Hadrian's wall, Derwent water and Carlisle which are all short drives away. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of life this is the perfect retreat. It's cosy and quiet and a beautiful part of England. Very recommended and thank you for your hospitality.

The property

A charming, recently refurbished sandstone cottage set on a working dairy farm near the market town of Brampton in Cumbria.

On the farm there are 20 acres of private ancient woodland, perfect for exploring, bird watching, photography and other activities.

There is also 3/4 of a mile of river running through the farm, with associated fishing rights for your enjoyment.

Step into the cottage and be welcomed into the delightful, cosy, living dining room, with exposed wooden beams and stone walls along with comfy seating, and a traditional woodburning stove; what better place to sit and relax?

The original flagstone flooring takes you to the kitchen which has all the mod cons.

However, you may find yourself eschewing the integrated dishwasher in order to watch the calves frolicking in the field whilst you wash up!

The beautifully decorated king-size bedroom is cosy and restful, with double doors to the garden.

Faraway cottage comes with an extensive private gravelled area, with table and chairs overlooking the open farmland, the perfect spot to enjoy the views, and appreciate the tranquillity.

The cottage is in a fantastic secluded location.

However, the nearby market town of Brampton is a short drive away, and offers great history as well as an array of cafes, pubs and independent shops for you to enjoy at your leisure.

With spectacular scenery on the doorstep, the historic City of Carlisle only ten miles away, and the Lake District an easy drive, you are well placed for an interesting and varied holiday.
