  • "Lovely cottage in beautiful location."

Kitchen was adequately equipped, bathroom and shower clean and lovely clean/fresh bed linen. Owner, Margaret, was lovely - friendly and very helpful. The only downside was the very poor wi-fi coverage which was intermittent and unreliable. Would not have been such an issue except we had no mobile coverage either (with two different mobile providers!). We had a fabulous, long-awaited holiday Thanks

  • "The cottage was lovely, the Area Beautiful, not as clean as I would expect but passable, to many little notice’s in all rooms, would have been better to write all do’s & don’t’s in a book, wi-fi was useless, TV they need a new one!"

! Furniture not comfortable, weather was absolutely beautiful sunny every day, just a pity we couldn’t sit outside, no sun umbrella, we ask about it were told it had broken the week before, so why wasn’t it replaced!!! It’s part & parcel of the holiday being able to sit outside in Gorgeous weather but we couldn’t,

We are glad you found the cottage lovely, but the owners are only next door if you need them and are more than happy to offer any help needed during your stay, unfortunately you did not raise any concerns. WiFi in the area is poor due to the rural location. The umbrella was being mended and was not back in time for your stay. We are glad you were able to enjoy the recent glorious weather and the lovely garden. Management Response Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in good location."

Friendly host. Nice touch with biscuits and chocolates on arrival. Beds were comfy but seats were all conservatory type. Ok for short spells but not good for an extended lounge. Biggest gripe was the non-existent WIFI. A booster from one stone cottage to the router in another is NEVER going to work. A couple of days without internet is ok but when away for a week, especially when we’re often expecting to still be able to access work, is not.

  • "Found the granary listed on a few sites on sykescottages it was £200 cheaper than another popular site."

Wow that was a big saving. The cottage it's self was amazing, Stunning views from the garden, very quiet and peaceful location but not too far from civilisation. Nice pubs not too far away for food and a great place to explore the lake from.

  • "The cottage was lovely."

comfortable and had all we needed . the wifi is limited to near or in one room but this didnt matter to us as we were out most of the days. There is a nice cosy garden with an area for the dog to run in and a lovely view. We mostly ate out side. The owner was lovely and helpful being close by if needed . Its a lovely cottage and we would love to return .

  • "Only the Wi-Fi, it was awful, & with a teacher & two teenage boys on tow, it was exasperating!"

Margeret explained the reasons & I accepted them, but kids & teachers? Wooh! All that was nothing compared to the scenery, the air, & the challenge of parking a large 4WD & motorcycle in the space provided (LOL)! The dogs walked for miles & never seemed to be tired, I think the air revitalised them each day! The clear night skies prompted the artist in me & the writer in my eldest. Could I suggest a shower be put in the bathroom upstairs? None of my family like baths & it was a fight for the one shower! The taste of the water in our drinks was remarkable & trying to remember not to use so much soap whilst washing in the soft water, otherwise, we'd be there forever rinsing! The cottage was well placed to visit the Lakes & mountains & I even took a trip to my old stomping grounds of Haverigg & Millom, nothing there like, just fancied a trip down memory lane! St Bees is a must for beach lovers, the dogs loved it! Keswick was fantastic but we found Booths quite expensive, similar to Waitrose, best to shop in Cockermouth (Art shop is there too!)There just wasn't enough time to see everything... Hopefully, we'll be back. Great holiday, great place & Margeret was a lovely person. Stay safe.

My only downside to this cottage would be having no dishwasher. It was a great little cottage in a lovely location.

  • "Lovely stay in Margaret's cottage."

Great location off the beaten track - away from the fray but close enough to where you want to be in the Lakes. Margaret was lovely too - low key but friendly and had we needed advice etc I'm sure she would have been willing to help.

  • "Margaret the owner of the cottage is absolutely lovely."

She met us on arrival and when a bulb blew she promptly came round and provided us with a spare. Cottage is ideally situated for Keswick, roughly a 20-25 minute drive away. If you stay at the Granary you really should take a trip into Ireby and the local pub. We ate there on our last night and were greeted with a warm welcome and the food is lovely. Although the Granary is advertised as having WiFi none of our party could connect as the signal was too weak. This wasn’t a problem as such as we didn’t come away to spend our time on the internet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Granary and enjoyed meeting Smokey the donkey in the field out back.

Stunning views and easy access to the northern and western lakes and surrounding areas. The owner Mrs Crooks was very welcoming and helpful, nothing was too muck trouble for her. There were beautiful views of the fells from the kitchen door and the lounge French windows. A very pleasant and relaxing holiday. The cottage was very clean and well equipped with all we needed for our stay.

About the location

IREBY

Bassenthwaite 5 miles; Keswick 12 miles.

Ireby nestles in the peaceful fells of the northern Lake District, in the beautiful area to the north of Keswick known as 'Back of Skiddaw'. Once a thriving market town, with the market cross believed to date back to 1200, Ireby is now a truly unspoilt, peaceful fell village. The peaks of Great Calva and Knott look down on the village and the nearby Aughertree Fell was the site of a Bronze Age farm and the remains of a pre-Roman road are still in evidence, a unique and most complete settlement from the Iron Age period. Nearby Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Trotters Farm, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall.
