  • "We were very pleased with the cottage."

There was a slight issue with water ingress through the window upon arrival but the owners came immediately to rectify it and provide towels. Not their fault as weather was absolutely chucking it down! The cottage had a lovely walk in shower which appealed as I have mobility issues and everything easily accessible. Slight negative, the bed in the main double was too low for me to get out of easily and also felt that the mattress could be improved upon as it felt like I was on a bit of a slant. There was plenty of storage for clothes and radiators to warm the cottage through when you were chilled and damp from the outside. Well stocked kitchen equipment, microwave, good sized fridge freezer, etc. Full sized oven & hob for cooking, easy to use. We took our 2 greyhounds with us and there was plenty of space for their beds. Parking within the property boundary and once we'd shut the gates it was a secure area for the dogs to mooch about. Low walls though probably not good for dogs that will jump out but fine on a long-line or lead. We would go back again as well located to get to other places and 5 min walk to the beach. Shop on site and other places to eat and drink within walking distance.

  • "My Partner & I had a really good stay at Kate's bungalow, everything we needed was there, Kate & her Husband came around on the 1st day to make sure everything was ok, they were both a lovely couple to talk to."

We would recommend this holiday cottage to Friends & family.

  • "Lovely cottage, very clean and has everything you need."

Close to the beach and facilities. The swimming pool on site was great too 5*. Bed bit lumpy, but nothing a topper wouldn't fix. Lots to do in the local area if you like exploring. Will definitely be returning. Thank you!

  • "Toilet too close to glass on shower tray."

Beds far too low. Outside a trip hazard uneven surface plus the weed suppressor is protruding through the stones and is a trip hazard. Barrier shaky as you come in the gate at the main road. Side gates need fixed dont open or close correctly definitely would not come back here again. No visitor book to write in.

  • "Perfect in every way."

Every little detail had been catered for and the property is immaculate. A proper home from home for us. The secure garden was ideal for our pup who could walk around the whole house and get attention from passers by! A peaceful setting and close by to the shop and entertainment area. We didn’t use these but there was little noise from the entertainment area. A very comfortable and modern property with a very welcoming host who checked in to see if there was any help we needed. If you have transport there are some beautiful places around to explore and some stunning coastlines.

  • "All in all a fabulous holiday cottage."

It was extremely well equipped and we had everything we needed. It is bright and airy, everything looks new, fabulous comfy recliner leather sofas, nice dining table and chairs. It was in a prime position, most importantly for us the beach was only a 5 min stroll away. Our 2 dogs loved the beach. In easy access of other beaches and places of interest. The cottages position on the site was great, just across from the well equipped store where you can buy just about anything, across from the ice cream van. In a fairly quiet spot just on the edge of the site with a lane just out at the back leading onto the beach where you could walk for miles. We would highly recommend this cottage and we definitely want to return. The only slight downfall was the beds, they were very low, not great for our bad backs. We could feel the springs on the mattress’s on the beds but we still slept ok. I would rate this cottage 4 & 3/4 out of 5. Can’t wait to return. Thank you very much for a great holiday.

  • "A very well looked after home."

Lots of storage space. Everything in the house was so clean and new looking. Plenty extra pillows for beds. The owners live in the village, they were very helpful and friendly. Outside tap was great for giving feet a quick clean after beach walks.

  • "The house was perfect ."

The only small thing was it didn’t mention that it was in the middle of a caravan park when you go to book it . We where fine with it because there was lots to do with a child and plenty walks with the dogs

  • "Bankswood has recently been refurbished to a high standard, everything was as new."

The accommodation was spotless and we didn't lack for anything. The owner lives locally and was happy to be contacted if we had the need to. The site is large but we found it quiet out of the school holiday period. The garden is secure for dogs and there are walks from the site. All in all, one of the better rentals we have tried.

About the location

SOUTHERNESS

Castle Douglas 19 miles; Dalbeattie 13 miles; Dumfries 16 miles.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.
