The accommodation was lovely and of high quality the views from the chalet lovely however it needed to be stated more clearly that this was on a holiday campsite with low grade facilities near by for eating out and quite isolated which made food areas extremely busy also access to the swimming pool could be included considering the price we have used Sykes before and always found descriptions fit the property and area perfectly but for the price l was a disappointed holidays are not just about the property the area needs to be better explained

  • "It is a lovely cottage and perfect for our needs."

The only area of slight concern is the very low water pressure, however, this may be a site problem and not specific to the cottage. I would recommend this cottage. I would also like to thank the owner who arranged for a parasol for the table in the back garden, which allowed us to sit out.

Beach on the doorstep (literally) Very comfortable clean and had everything you need. Definitely would come again and great for the dog (got me up at 7 every morning to go on the beach!)

  • "The property was beautiful, comfortable and better quality wifi than we've ever had."

Only one criticism was eating, the only table was in the conservatory which was freezing cold and unheated (Feb). We had to eat on our knees as there is no table inside and no trays either. But overall very nice place.

About the location

Castle Douglas 19 miles; Dalbeattie 13 miles; Dumfries 16 miles.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.
