  • "A beautiful cottage with lots of attention to detail both in the house and garden."

Everywhere you looked there was another feature to see. The 2 different sitting areas in the house were great and loved the sea view. The garden absolutely amazing, pity about the weather - can't wait until we can visit again when the weather is better so we can sit out.

  • "Wonderful, very special cottage."

The owner, a really caring and considerate hostess, nothing was too much trouble. Location really great and we would not hesitate to recommend this lovely place for a holiday. Even with the snowfall, the cottage was warm and cosy and we could not have asked for anything more. Sandpiper was fabulous.

  • "Very well presented cottage decorated to a high standard and very comfortable."

The enclosed garden which is well maintained was ideal for our dogs. The seating areas are well placed so you could sit out in the sun all day long. The cottage sits a short distance from the beach which was ideal for dog walks. Amenities such as local shops & pubs are within walking distance from the cottage. You do need torches when walking home at night time especially in September/October Very enjoyable home from home feel to it. We would definitely stay at the Sandpiper again.

Lovely homely and very comfortable cottage with everything you need. Bed in master bedroom is exceptionally comfortable. Lovely big garden that wraps around the property and completely enclosed which our 2 dogs loved. Fantastic sun trap to the rear if you get the weather. Partial sea views and great walks. Can't wait to visit again. Absolutely lovely hosts and highly recommended this lovely property.

  • "Amazing week at sandpiper cottage, despite the stormy weather."

Sandpiper was like a home from home. From the minute we arrived we felt relaxed and the welcome package was a lovely touch. We were a family of 2 adults, 1 teenager and 1 very well behaved cat, Oreo. The garden was amazing with lots of seating options. The cottage had everything you could need and was very clean and tidy. We all had our favourite spots in either the living room or the sun room. The local pubs and cafes were also very welcoming to all of us, including Oreo. We enjoyed evening beach walks and also visiting the lighthouse. Nearby dumfries was around 30 minutes away for a full shop but local shops in the village were good for basics such as milk etc. Thank you for such a lovely homely holiday experience and hopefully we left it in the same clean and tidy condition we found it in. Will definitely recommend to others.

Hello Julie & many thanks for such kind words. So glad you enjoyed Sandpiper, Southerness & the local amenities. It was a shame that the weather was so volatile. Thank you also for leaving the house so spotlessly clean. Best wishes Julia x Property Owner

October can be iffy anywhere I guess! But what a find! Sandpiper is absolutely lovely, toasty warm (admittedly weather was sunny the 6 days we stayed), spacious, super comfy beds, enormous totally enclosed garden for the dog, fabulous views of the bay from the huge light and bright sun room, less than 150m to the sandy beach and rock pools, excellent chippy within walking distance (closes Nov to end Feb tho), and each surrounding village seems to have a very good tea room/cafe/restaurant. Truly fell in love with the area…me & the beagle will definitely be back!

  • "Enjoyed our stay at Sandpiper, lovely comfortable, clean and welcoming place to stay."

..great location for the beach and surrounding area.... The only downside was the awful view of all the building rubbish and shipping container at the cottage straight opposite, and the unsightly scrapyard of rubbish of the cottage next door, I appreciate that the owners of Sandpiper have no control over this....not the views you expect to be looking at on your holiday when you've paid a lot of money!!!....

Thank you for your feedback. The property directly opposite Sandpiper is approaching the end of a complete renovation & I am informed by the owner will soon be complete. I am currently in communication with local authorities regarding the nextdoor property & am hopeful some improvement will be forthcoming. As you correctly point out unfortunately I cannot control what happens outside my property but I am determined to try to keep the area clear even if I have to do it myself! I am glad you had a pleasant stay otherwise. Best wishes Julia Property Owner

The accommodation was wonderful, very clean with everything we could need to make our stay special. The hosts made us feel so welcome and even left a welcome pack which was very much appreciated. The location is literally a stones throw from the beach and you can see the sea whilst your relaxing from the house. The garden is beautiful with lots of seating in various parts so you can take advantage of the nice weather as the sun moves around (it is also great for dogs being fenced all the way around) There are many historical places to visit close by such as John Paul Jones birthplace and Sweetheart Abbey or even if you drive further out such as the lighthouse at Mull of Galloway or Port Patrick. On our last night we had a meal at the Steamboat Inn which is a 10 minute drive away, both the food and service were excellent. There is something for everyone here….we can highly recommend Sandpiper and hope to return again soon….

Thanks Mel for your feedback both for Sandpiper & our beautiful area. Look forward to welcoming you all back should you decide to revisit. Best wishes Julia x Property Owner

I would recommend the cottage to anyone. The only down side is the resort of Southerness itself. Ideal if you are a golfer, but nothing else. It lacks quality shops and cafes - it needs some work done to walkways, and it is a 16 mile drive for a supermarket. If you want to get away from everything it is ideal, but make sure you take enough supplies with you. Oh, and the dog just loved her stay! Enclosed garden was great.

Sandpiper is a charming bungalow for a couple, pair of couples or small group of four wanting to enjoy a coastal getaway to the Scottish Riviera.

There is off-road parking available for two cars and you can enter the front garden through the pretty blue picket fence, up the paved pathway, past lots of pretty plants and a water feature, with a decking area in the corner and a bench to sit out and admire the distant sea view.

Step inside the property to find a compact but bright and airy kitchen, with a fridge/freezer, microwave and electric oven and hob, for you to prepare delicious meals and views of the sea in the distance to admire while you tackle the washing up.

Enjoy dining together at the dining table, set for four, and making plans for the days ahead, while the seating area offers a choice of two cosy sofas, one being an L shaped sofa bed, to rest on and enjoy watching the Smart TV while the electric fire fills the room with warmth.

The sunroom offers a quieter seating alternative, where you can admire views of the garden and the sea beyond or enjoy getting lost in a good book.

The property offers two double bedrooms (1 standard and 1 small), colourfully presented with lovely artwork on the walls, each with a TV and wardrobe, while one bedroom offers sea views and the other looks out onto the pretty garden, and they are both served by the family bathroom which has a bath with shower over, so the choice is yours when it comes to getting ready for each day.

Access the rear garden via the sunroom, another enclosed, pretty garden that is part gravel, part charming paved pathway and offering a choice of outdoor seating, so you can enjoy a glass of wine or an alfresco meal while enjoying your coastal setting.

The centre of Southerness village is a short walk away, offering two convenience stores and a handful of pubs and restaurants.

There is also a championship golf course, enjoying panoramic views of Sloway Firth, as well as a swimming pool and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes and rock pools to explore.

Southerness rests on a stretch of coastline affectionately known as the Scottish Riviera, overlooking the Solway Firth and with lovely warm waters, heated by the Gulf Stream.

There is also a lighthouse, built in 1748 and thought to be one of the oldest in Scotland, which is worth a visit.

Enjoy a hike up Criffel Hill, which sits at 569m tall and offers lovely views of the Nith Estuary and surrounding farmland below and explore the wetland and saltmarshes of the RSPB Mersehead nature reserve.

Venture to the town of Dalbattie, in a picturesque wooded valley on the Urr Water, where you can explore its national forest, stroll or cycle around the pretty Plantain Loch and discover the Dalbeattie Museum Trust.

Further afield, you can reach Dumfries and Castle Douglas, as well as the stunning parkland of the Galloway Forest Park, fantastic for exploring on foot or bicycle.

With so much to see and do on your doorstep, make Sandpiper the base for your next Scottish adventure.
