  • "We had a fabulous stay at Ladstock Cottage."

The position was perfect for a wonderful walking holiday. Everyone was very comfortable and the layout and setup of the cottage enabled a very relaxed stay. We were very grateful for previous feedback which gave us a ‘heads-up’ on the things that we needed to be alerted to - the sticky bathroom door, no ceiling lights over the lounge area, the outside security light and the heating system - these things had not been corrected by the time we arrived. Fortunately we weren’t too bothered by the lights in the lounge (which would have been helpful) and the bathroom door, but the security light outside would have been useful as we arrived in the dark after a long journey beset by accidents and road closures. Fortunately we had experience of different heating systems. However, we loved Ladstock Cottage and would love to be able to return. We went with our son and his family - four adults, two children and two dogs. It must be hard for local people in the village with people coming and going but I have to say, the neighbours and people we met from the village were very friendly and welcoming.

  • "Just returned from a fantastic New Year stay with my Wife, Mother and Sister along with our two dogs."

What a beautiful location right next to the water with access straight up the lane into Whinlatter Forest for walks and a short car ride to Keswick. The house is finished to a high standard with everything you need for a comfortable weeks stay with loads of space. The owners have done a great job! The only disappointment was that we had read previous customer reviews before we got there about broken toilet seats and not being able to access the property website containing all the useful information and unfortunately we discovered the same, the down stairs toilet seat was broken and requires replacing and the property website was no existent when searched for. It was disappointing that despite previous feedback the owners haven’t addressed these issues and listened to their paying guests. We have reported both of these issues again to Sykes for them to get the owners to address once and for all hopefully. That said it has not put us off staying we will definitely be booking again soon.

  • "This is a fantastic house, very spacious, well designed, decorated and furnished."

We were 4 adults and a dog and had a brilliant week. We cooked everyday and the only things we didn’t find were some food scales and a measuring jug. Everything else was great.

  • "The cottage was lovely."

Clean, spacious, great location. A couple of caveats though: 1. There is no information in the cottage providing the essentials, such as what day to put bins out. A website was provided for cottage information, but it doesn't seem to exist! 2. The rushing sound of the beck next to the cottage takes a bit of getting used to - this may be a consideration if you like your bedroom window open at night and are a light sleeper. 3. Three of the toilet seats were very wobbly (in fact one was completely off when we arrived). We did report this to Sykes and were told someone would come to make repairs, but no-one ever did. 4. The bathroom locks are stiff. The one on the en suite to the master bedroom is particularly dangerous - please take care as one of us got locked in and it took us over an hour to rescue them - no end of tools failed to work. These locks require attention, but weren't sorted during our stay. 5. It would be good if one of the double beds could be converted to twins. Sorry if this all sounds negative, but I think it's important some of these issues are addressed. Despite the above, we DID love the cottage and greatly enjoyed our stay there.

  • "The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and was really comfortable for us during our stay."

It was really well equipped as well with little extras not all holiday cottages have, which were very much appreciated. The downstairs toilet seat was broken when we arrived and I told the lady who called to make sure we had got in to the property without problems, and she said it would be fixed on the day we left which was fine as there were plenty of other toilets for us to use! I note that others who have stayed in the cottage since say the seat was still broken. The other seats were a little wobbly as well, especially the one in the en suite. The only other little issue was that the website provided for details about the cottage didn't work so there was no information about the cottage or bin day etc. The bins were overflowing and I felt bad about leaving our rubbish by the side of the bins opposite the house but I totally appreciate that this was down to a strike by the refuse workers rather than anything else. I see someone else has said that the beck at the side of the house is a little noisy, but we loved the sound of the water and frequently sat outside to enjoy it. Those things aside, we really loved the cottage. So much so, we have booked again for next summer!

  • "The dustbins were all full when arrived and were not emptied during our two week stay until we were packing the car to come home."

Nonetheless we found it a great place to stay fulfilling all our needs and will definitely return.

Dear Kevin, please accept our apologies for the dustbins. The Local Council can be unpredictable sometimes regarding collections. Apparently, we have learned that they were on strike during your stay. Nevertheless, many thanks for your feedback. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your time at our home and hope that you will come back soon! Kind regards, Simon & Lucy Property Owner

  • "Ladstock Cottage is very comfortable and in a lovely location."

Sadly, we could find no guidance on how to operate the heating and towel rails, only discovering the solution the night before we left, and this was an issue which marred our stay. Other than this the only 'niggles' were the absence of salt & pepper pots, toast rack, only two egg cups and not enough towels for our party. In such a high quality house we found these missing items surprising. Leaving aside these minor issues the house is comfortable, beautifully presented and very welcoming.

  • "This was a lovely cottage, clean, pristine & in a stunning location."

It was very tastefully & well equipped. A couple of minor points (not a problem, just for information): the extractor fan in the main en-suite bathroom didn’t work; the housing around the oven extractor fan wobbled when in use.

Dear Angela, Many thanks for your feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your time at our home and hope that you will come back soon! Equally, many thanks for informing us about the maintenance items. We will see to it that those are addressed as soon as possible. Kind regards, Simon & Lucy Property Owner

We called the office and a lady came to sort it but whilst slightly better was never controllable. NO INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REGULATE IT, AND WE ONLY FOUND HOW TO HEAT UPSTAIRS ON DAY 2, AND THEN YOU HAD TO MANUALLY TURN IT ON IN THE MORNING ! WE ARE MID 70’S AND SOME SUFFER FROM POOR CIRCULATION . Look on internet the recommended temperature for elderly is 21 C living room and 18 C upstairs. Also note the bathroom door lock sticks and we had to rescue one person locked in.

  • "Lovely property, cleanest we have ever stayed in and so well equipped."

Bedrooms and beds are very comfortable, that coming from me who never sleeps anywhere is a real compliment!! Bathrooms are beautiful, miniature shampoos etc., and toilet rolls ... everything to start your holiday without any concerns. Walk directly from the door into the Whinlater forest park, perfect for your fury friends but only 5 minutes into nearby keswick for supplies. I wish every holiday cottage was as good as this one, it is so hard to find such good standard of accommodation as this. Only 1 thing missing....Yorkshire pudding tin

Dear Susan, Many thanks for your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at our home and hope that you will come back again! Thanks for the tip on the 'Yorkshire' Pudding tin. We hadn't thought of this as we've lived overseas for quite some time, but will purchase one when we are back at Christmas! Kind regards, Simon & Lucy Property Owner

It was clean, super comfortable, and very welcoming. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home and relaxed. It was perfect for our 4 young children with space to play, eat and sleep. I’ve never experienced a place being so well resourced from the washing powder to the cooking oil! So helpful. Location was excellent to nearby Keswick and on foot a trail up through Whinlatter.
