  • "It was wonderful to be back at Kilnhow again- this is our 4th or 5th time in this fantastic cottage."

It is perfectly situated for walking and for the local pubs and has everything you need including a stunning view of Blencathra. Beautifully clean and fresh with a cosy log burner which fortunately we didn’t need this trip. Our dog absolutely loves it too so definitely very dog friendly. A perfect place to spend time exploring the lakes - I can’t recommend it enough- we have booked two more trips already!

  • "A comfortable cosy cottage located in an area close to the Lakes."

Keswick and Ambleside within easy reach. Good walks right on your doorstep and the views from the cottage are amazing. Good pub just a short walk away. A very enjoyable holiday.

  • "Booked for 1 week but returned home after 4 days."

Comfort of cottage zero bathroom and kitchen ok but dreadfully uncomfortable bed sofa and chairs not fit for purpose-no comfort in lounge TV only through wi-fi so no normal programmes cottage needs a thorough clean inside and out - we had to clean front entrance toaster tired and needs replacing

I am so sorry to hear that you have not enjoyed your time in our cottage. Our personal number is in the info pack and we would have been happy to come and give the cottage another clean if it was not to your standards. Our neighbour told us that you left because your arthritis is bad and you couldn't get comfortable. Our mattresses are sprung with a memory foam topper and may not suit some conditions and the toaster is a year old and regularly checked. Property Owner

  • "Great location very pet friendly."

Ideal for walks, can walk into Keswick along railway line there’s also a bus service that runs through village. We had a lovely week. Threlkeld coffee shop very friendly and lovely food. Owners very helpful - we needed kitchen scales and they dropped some in for us the next day. Would have been good to know there’s no DVD player. Internet can be bit intermittent if trying to watch say iPlayer. Freezer is small within fridge but fine for our weeks needs.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! It was our pleasure to meet you and we are so pleased you had a good week! Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage."

Very comfortable and warm no need for the log burner. Kitchen was smaller than expected, but still plenty big enough. Well equipped, could just do with a couple of pyrex dishes for cooking/serving. Shower was great and lovely big towels. A great base with good walks for all. The only downside, no shop just to get basics, milk bread etc.

Thank you for letting us know about the dishes! There were some previously but they seem to have disappeared! We have replaced them and are so pleased you had a good break. Property Owner

  • "We had lovely relaxing (but very active)stay in a beautiful location."

Dog walks from the doorstep. The memory foam mattress did not suit my back well at all so unfortunately a week of unsettled nights but that’s just me, everyone is different. The log burner was a delight in the evenings but we were spending about £7 a day on log burner fuel so something to bear in mind. Altogether though we had an amazing week so thank you!

Thank you so much for coming to stay in Kiln How, we are so glad you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

  • "The property is in a brilliant location, with beautiful views in a quiet village but close to all the lakes."

The property has two good bedrooms and the larger room which we used had a very comfortable bed and was spacious and warm. The bathroom was very modern and had a fantastic shower and bath. We unfortunately found stale food in plastic boxes in the cupboards which we assumed had been left by the previous guests and the freezer part of the fridge needed defrosting. A few little added touches needed just to make it a bit more special.

Hi, thank you for letting us know. I have defrosted the freezer box and take special care to check for surprise left overs! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at Kiln How with our little boy."

The beds are extremely comfortable with lots of storage in the bedrooms and the kitchen is well equipped. We had a couple of problems with the heating which were fixed extremely quickly and the owners were really helpful at all times. We ate in the Horse & Farrier pub in the village most nights as the food and staff were wonderful. We would definitely return in the future.

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at Kilnhow and we loved it just as much as the first time."

We were really cosy despite the very cold weather and the log burner was the icing on the cake! The cottage is really well equipped, really comfortable and beautifully presented. It’s really well placed for walking and is close to excellent pubs and a coffee shop. Also handy for Keswick- what more could you ask. We love it so much we booked to go again while we were there. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

We loved seeing you again and look forward to welcoming you back! Property Owner

  • "I was supplied with 1 week's quantity of good dry wood by owner as I had rang up previously, however, I purchased more from local store and it burned badly in log stove."

Perhaps maybe could purchase extra supply from owner? Also no hairdryer or steamer pan in cottage. However we had a lovely comfortable week's stay and would definitely recommend to friends.

Hi! Thank you for your lovely feedback, we have since put in a hairdryer and a steamer pan has been ordered! Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, well set out."

Beds were very comfortable and towels fluffy. Plenty of hot water. Only one negative and that would be that there were no fire lighters do not able to light the log fire on the first night. Maybe this is something to consider, that some be provided along with matches.

Hi, thank you for your feedback, I have since made sure that there are firelighters in the starter pack for lighting the fire. Property Owner

  • "The bedding lacked an upper sheet."

As we had hot weather the duvet was too hot, but a sheet would have been just right over us. The fitted sheet was a winter weight and could have been thinner for summer. No egg cups! Cutlery rather limited, but good kitchen knives and cooking pots. Plenty of mugs and crockery and glasses. It was lovely having the picnic bench just outside by the stream and a number of people came past us on the public footpath and had a brief chat.

Hi, we have since added eggcups and although admittedly confused why 6 of each cutlery was not enough, we have made a point of checking each change over. Thank you for your feedback Property Owner

About the location

The charming village of Threlkeld is just to the east of Keswick in the Northern Lakes. The steep sided Blencathra looms over Threlkeld village, a popular starting point for walking the mountain. Threlkeld's history reaches back more than 800 years; the Romans were here from the 3rd to the 8th century, followed later by the Norse. In the village the church dates back to 1578 and there are two pubs that first opened their doors in 1688.
Though only a few miles outside Keswick, the village is tranquil and unspoilt with great views of Blencathra and the Helvellyn range.
