  • "A lovely apartment clean and comfortable"

  • "Lovely apartment in a nice location."

Would definitely visit again. Could do with a longer adult swim time as it does get swamped with kids in the pool facilities, and the car park is far away from the apartment. But otherwise a great place to stay in the lakes!

  • "We booked this apartment as a little honeymoon Booking with Sykes was really easy & staff very helpful."

We arrived at the apartment, it was lovely, clean(apart from a bad hoover smell) & everything was there that was needed. Whitbarrow is a lovely complex, all staff really nice & helpful. Only negative about our stay was the bar & restaurant had issues meaning we couldn’t have a meal there, was takeaway service only & only between certain hours. As whitbarrow Is out the way from everywhere myself & my Husband were not able to have a meal & a drink together on our honeymoon as had to drive & find alternative places to eat out.

  • "Had a great holiday."

Very impressed with the standard of the furniture and decor in the apartment. Enjoyed using the pool and spa facilities but expect they spiel be MUCh more crowded in school holiday times and might have not have been able to make such use of them. My husband said the gym was small and not particularly well equipped - a bit basic. Nice and quite site , but again expect it wouldn’t have been so in school holidays

  • "The location and apartment facilities were superb and the staff were friendly and courteous."

It was a shame, but understandable, that the restaurant had to revert to takeaways only because of the current staffing difficulties. We had had one really enjoyable restaurant meal and were looking forward to experiencing more of the menu. The only negative aspect was the poor noise insulation between the floors. I don’t think the residents above us were particularly noisy but you could hear every footstep and trying to get an early sleep was impossible. I would have expected a higher standard of insulation in a modern building.

  • "Room had not been hoovered , full of cob webs and dust ."

    Not worth the money .

We regret that you found it necessary to post this feedback as our ratings are usually very high. Having checked with head of housekeeping and the resort manager, I am assured that the room was cleaned and then checked by the supervisor before you checked in. However, if you had mentioned that you were at all unhappy with the way it had been cleaned while staying there and had advised the staff, the helpful staff would have given an immediate response and of course cleaned it again to your satisfaction. .we had a wonderful week. The staff here were very good and very good CoVID measures in place to protect everyone. Just note that the WiFi is free (it says on the listing it has to be paid for)..all facilities were open (we used the pool and jacuzzi every morning) and the restaurant and bar are great too! Looking to book again soon

Everything else was comfortable and the view was great. The spa was fab and even though there were covid restrictions in place this did not mean we couldnt get into the spa. We just booked for the day after and 3 days we had the jaccuzi and pool to ourselves...the staff were lovely and friendly too.

The holiday instructions said WI fi was charged it was fee, it said need to bring own towels for swimming and sauna they were supplied. I would highly recommend Whitbarrow Hotel and village to all my friends as a Lake District destination.

  • "The suite was lovely and clean."

Unfortunately, the suite was very hot every night to the point I had to ask reception if the heating was on and I got told 'i don't know. As it was a private suite they could not tell me'. I was very happy with all that was there and the location but the hotel was far from the car park and I had a broken neck with a brace on which was not the best and was not in the details. The DVD player was not working and as it was the Sunday the maintenance team were away home so we were told as it was a private unit and no one had reported it they could do nothing about the DVD until Monday which they did. Overall, the break away was better than we expected. All the staff was very helpful and the amenities were great. Staff to recommend were Mario in the restaurant.

  • "We had a fabulous week in this apartment which was perfect for our needs."

The kitchen, although small, was very well equipped and certainly adequate for cooking breakfast and preparing lunches. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and although it was too chilly to sit outside, we loved being able to open the doors onto the patio to feed the ducks each morning and evening. The view from the room was also lovely. The facilities at Whitbarrow were great. It was lovely to soak our aching muscles in the jacuzzi after a hard day’s hiking, and due to the time of year the pool area was very quiet. We ate once in the on-site restaurant which had a nice atmosphere but not the best menu for vegetarians. However, the apartment is only approx 15 mins drive from both Keswick and Penrith where there are plenty of restaurants and pubs. The location was fabulous, especially for exploring the northern area of the Lakes. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place and would definitely return here.

When better lighting was requested at reception we were brought a small table lamp which helped, but neither my daughter or I were able to read our books in the evening except in bed because the lighting was so low.

  • "The accommodation and the facilities are very good."

The studio is quite large with all the amenities you need. Everything is clean and well presented, staff are pleasant and polite. We used the gym and the pool, which is kept clean and well maintained. The bar area is very pleasant and the staff helpful and polite. The local area has fabulous scenery so the location is really good, altho rural and a drive from any shops or pubs. Our only gripe...and its a small one is that the bed seems small for 2 adults and there is space for a larger bed. The development seems very well planned and is attractively laid out, I'm sure it's lovely in the summer months. We hope to visit again before too long.

  • "There was a gym facility that was supposed to be available on site."

We chose this destination because of this. My partner has PTSD and the gym was an important aspect of ensuring she has good days whilst on holiday. Unfortunately due to the entire gym being closed we were unable to use this facility.

“Whitbarrow closed their gym facility for essential unforeseen maintenance for a few days; the gym is now fully open. Apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused and we look forward to welcoming you back to our apartment”. Property Owner

About the location

PENRUDDOCK

Keswick 11 miles; Penrith 6 miles.

The charming old village of Penruddock sits in a secluded position in the northern Lake District between Keswick and Penrith, and just four miles from Ullswater. The village is spread out amongst beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful scenery and is made up of a number of farm dwellings, traditional Lakeland homes and two churches. Penruddock originated in Celtic times, with the name derived from Pen, a Celtic name for 'hill' and 'rhuddawc' meaning red in Welsh to reflect the reddish brown colour of the soil found in the area. Nearby, the popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the north of the Lake District and has plenty to offer, boasting numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, some good parks, the Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema and the beautiful lake. Penruddock provides easy access to the spectacular surrounding Cumbrian countryside which can be explored by both car and on foot, and with the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Solway Coast and Hadrian's Wall all within easy motoring distance this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family.
