Superb!
Everything that you needed for the perfect relaxing holiday. The cottage needed for nothing. Large garden for the dog to run around antagonised by the friendly pheasant in the field!
Excellent location for Dumfries and the surrounding areas for some great walks. Some lovely little towns to amble around.

"The only thing that let this cottage down , was the cleanliness of the crockery !"
Ie : upon making a cup of coffee , a number of the cups were still stained with the contents of what a previous occupant had enjoyed ! The cups still had coffee rings around them , but apart from that , it was idyllic!!

The garden was the jewel in the crown, sealed for the dog to roam. The abundance of birds where you can watch from the garden seating or the conservatory. Will definitely be back again.

"We really enjoyed our stay at West Winds."
The cottage is comfortable, clean and benefits from a large, well - fenced garden, ideal if you have a dog. The conservatory at the back is spacious and restful.
We travelled from the North. It would be helpful if the directions, took account of this so that travellers can use the A701 and thereafter be directed from the Dumfries by-pass, thus avoiding having to go all the way down to Gretna.
West Winds is an excellent holiday cottage and we can recommend it without hesitation.

"This is a lovely, tranquil setting, but within easy reach of Dumfries, the Solway coast and 3 of the 7Stanes bike centres."
Beautiful, large garden with outdoor seating. The cottage itself is comfortable and well equipped. When the weather isn't so good the conservatory is an ideal place to enjoy the view and local birdlife. It was lovely to be provided with some welcome gifts, and have some supplies, like milk and butter on arrival.

"A hidden gem of a property."
We enjoyed a week here with our two teenagers and within hours of arrival, one was sketching the views...mobile phone ignored! We were really impressed with the cleanliness and the added things like hand wash, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, foil. The kitchen had everything you could need and more, very well stocked.
Plenty of storage for bags/cases and shoes, comfy seating and the conservatory was a real treat, especially with the spotlessly clean windows. It was a very calming week, we enjoyed a variety of Scottish weather and even used the barbeque.
This property was perfect for a relaxing break but still within a two hour drive of Glasgow and Edinburgh for those wishing to see the sights of the big city.

"Our second stay at this beautiful cottage which we love because of its quiet location, the peace and quiet and the wildlife."
For getting away from it all this suits us perfectly - sitting in the conservatory that looks out onto the garden, watching the birds, reading, solving a crossword or two, knitting - and relaxing in the well maintained enclosed garden, perfect for both us our dog to enjoy. A wonderful place to recharge the batteries and relax, we look forward to returning again soon.

"Lovely cottage in a great location."
Very clean and well equipped with a generous welcome package. Beautiful garden with the bonus of a stream running through the end of it and my dog was delighted with all of that. The conservatory was the way we came in and out of the property which kept all our mess of shoes and coats and dog towels out of the way but it was also a lovely place to sit, dine, and watch the many birds in the garden. Peaceful place, despite proximity of the A75 and the closeness of Dumfries. Highly recommended.

.. rather than 'turn right after 18 Miles' try ' turn right signposted Tortherwald then take small left into trees before farm... cottage is then 3rd on right'
Cottage was cosy and we did get to see the red squirrel in the garden albeit only once... probably lying low because of our dog! Dog loved the enormous enclosed garden. Bathroom and kitchen would benefit from some TLC.

"A very enjoyable week in a peaceful and quiet location with an abundance of birds and wildlife in the garden and the surrounding fields."
The cottage was extremely clean and well equipped and we felt very warm and cosy despite the temperature outside around freezing for the first part of the week. We were more than happy to sit in the well positioned conservatory relaxing and watching the birds and red squirrels in the large garden and this was a real treat. As luck (or not!) would have it, we experienced two power cuts during the week, one pre-arranged for essential works (we chose that day for a trip to the local RSPB reserve at Mersehead) and another a couple of days later on our return to the cottage after a trip out. On contacting the owners, they couldn't have been more helpful in finding out information and keeping us speedily informed regarding the source of the problem, timescale etc., for which we were extremely grateful and felt very reassured. We didn't travel too far afield because we preferred not to, but it is a very convenient base for visiting the wider area should you so wish. A perfect get-away to recharge the batteries, highly recommended.

"The cottage overall was fantastic, with delightful spacious garden, ideal for the dogs."
There was everything you would want from a home away from home, comfortable clean beds, all the kitchen appliances, excellent television and comfortable seating in lounge with warm blanket and a very good electric remote controlled fire. The outdoor lighting was very good and is all-around the property so coming back in the dark is no issue. Our only complaint is no WiFi and the shower is poor, you need to make sure you switch the immersion heating on at night other wise no hot water in morning.

Nice garden and conservatory, with comfy sitting room when it got colder outside. The kitchen had everything needed, shower room was adequate, bedrooms fine. Good location - just three miles from Dumfries - though the turn onto the minor road off the A75 was not particularly easy. A lot to do in the area - an area we didn't know. Much enjoyed - thank you.
