“Despite some of the negative comments published for this apartment it was an excellent apartment in an excellent location.”

(and we have stayed in many Lake District properties that we would not!). Yes there are a few niggles - the strip led under the kitchen cupboards was not working (suspect the transformer needs replacing) and a single pan lid was missing, and a few cobwebs that may point to rushed changeover cleaning routines.. but over all superb apartment for two.

The property

Perfectly positioned on quiet rural grounds, Helvellyn is a gorgeous first-floor apartment lying at the heart of the lovely village of Grasmere.

Dating back to the mid-18th century, this warm and intimate cottage offers an idyllic setting for a romantic escape to the Lake District National Park.

Enamating light through the large Georgian window, the open-plan living space provides a wonderful and welcoming ambiance where you can relax and unwind.

Cosy up by the woodburning stove and enjoy an entertaining evening indoors, as your significant other takes to the quaint yet well-equipped kitchen and prepares a loving meal for two with the help of the sleek electric oven and hob.

Dine by candlelight at the charming table as you crack open a tasty bottle of champagne and raise a toast to a making new and happy memories in the Cumbrian countryside.

When you begin to feel yourself tire, pick yourself up and retreat to the pretty double bedroom, beautifully decorated with calming tones and crisp white bedding, as well as an abundance of storage in the traditional country style wardrobes and an airy en-suite hosting both a bath and an overhead shower.

When you can just about tear yourself away from this attractive abode, be sure to grab your walking boots as there’s much fun to be had in the encompassing fells.

Whether you’re an avid walker or a complete novice, the Lake District has something for everyone to enjoy.

Spend your days wandering the White Moss Walks or exploring the Green Gable, with mountains such as Great Gable and Scafell Pike, each boasting vast vistas of the surrounding landscapes.

A favourite spot of William Wordsworth, Grasmere is home to the wonderful attractions of Wordsworth Grasmere and Rydal Mount & Gardens, two former residence of the late English poet exhibiting his life and his incredible work.

Over in the bustling town of Bowness-on-Windermere the Blue Island Cruise Pier offers scenic tours of the lake, whilst The Beatrix Potter Attraction makes a superb stop.

Take the ferry over to the Weston shore and embark on a gentle hike to imposing 19th century fortress of Wray Castle or spend the afternoon at Beatrix Potter’s former Farmhouse of Hill Top, both of which are proudly owned by the National Trust.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Windermere 4 miles; Grasmere 4 mile; Keswick 15 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
