  • "We had a wonderful stay in a lovely comfortable house."

Very well equipped with all we needed. The beds were comfortable and the cute little garden was perfect and secure for our dog. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend and we'd also happily book again in the future.

  • "Cottage was tidy, generally clean and comfortable."

A few areas missed by cleaners (incl microwave and cooker hood). The second bedroom duvet and most of the pillows were very old and badly stained. Ancient lumpy mattress on main bed, with no mattress cover. Broken wooden chopping boards need replacement. En suite shower was an absolute joy to use. Tv and WiFi great, as were the open fire and multifuel stove. Nice quiet garden, in partial sun most of the day. Very well located in centre of the town. We would stay again.

  • "Allendale is a lovely place, everything you need on the doorstep."

The cottage was lovely albeit very dark and dated. This was okay if the cottage had been clean. There were cobwebs everywhere, lots of areas in the cottage had not been dusted. My granddaughter found a packet of contraceptive pills on the bathroom windowsill!! This proved to me that the windowsill had not been cleaned. The bedding was clean but very faded, the pillows and quilt had a musty smell about them, again all been used for a long time, so needed replacing. I received an email from yourself telling me about Covid guidelines, and yet the cleanliness of the cottage did not meet these guidelines. I hope for future reference the owners pick up this feedback and action it, such a shame because it could be a lovely cottage.

The decor is a bit dark but we knew that from the photos. Superb Wifi.

  • "Beautiful area and cottage well positioned in a lovely village."

Cottage was very good but we were surprised that in the present climate of COVID the cottages wasn’t as clean as we would have expected, cobwebs on door frames, shower extracted fans etc cottages we stayed in last September had removed all the non essentials items books pamphlet and games etc, these were still available at cherry tree cottage. Although reasonably well equipped for six people it could have more crockery etc. Furnishing and decor a bit tired. This didn’t spoil the holiday and we would certainly go back to the area

  • "The cottage was dark and too cold for us."

My main complaint was on arrival the first night it was only 3 degrees! No mention of heating in instructions except to say you buy wood for the fire. There was no electric fire which is very rare and it was only later on i found at the top of the stairs a nest controller for the central heating. Why no mention of this in their folder..However the bed and seating were fine and kitchen had anew cooker. Cold tiled floors downstairs and in the two rooms only had arug in the middle. Cottage would be ok for some people but not for us.

  • "The cottage needed a full deep clean, the rugs were covered in dog hairs and everywhere was covered in dust."

Even on a warm day the place was cold and damp and the central heating was complicated to use. The overflow and drains of the kitchen sink were blocked causing pungent smells to accumulate. On the plus side it was in an ideal location for visiting local sites with great food at the local pubs. The Spice Mill Indian takeaway and restaurant serves amazing food.

  • "Lovely, comfortable cottage in a wonderful setting."

The cottage is cosy whilst being really spacious. Easy to use appliances and heating. Really comfy reclining sofa for relaxing in the evening! Lovely little garden. Lovely and quiet at night. It's also a 10min walk from great views of beautiful countryside. The village of Allendale is lovely- we'd live there! Such friendly people, local Co-op store and some little gift and art shops. If, like us, you don't fancy cooking whilst on holiday, a local tearoom and The Forge cafe both serve a delicious breakfast or lunch- lovely staff there too! For dinner you have to try The Golden Lion at least once during your stay- absolutely delicious food and really friendy staff that make you feel like a local. You can order over the phone and pick up if you want to stay in - it's only a minute to walk there across the square, as with the cafes. There are two other pubs in the square too but we didn't try them. Surrounding areas such as Hexham and Corbridge are really easy to get to in the car as are places further away such as Northumbria Heritage Coast i.e. Bamburgh and Holy Island. Also Newcastle and sites along Hadrian's Wall. Direct routes and really good roads with lovely views along the way! This was our second year staying at this cottage and we hope to return again next year! :)
