The cottage itself is a barn conversion, whilst it look deceivingly small from the outside, there is plenty of space inside. The bedrooms are very well proportioned and there was enough space to fit a travel cot in either of the rooms. The cottage was sparking clean when we arrived, and we were greeted by Richard, who from a safe distance, let us know about the cottage and farm. There was plenty of sanitiser and cleaning products available in the cottage, which was reassuring, given the times. Despite our visit being socially distanced there was still plenty of things to do nearby. Homestead and the Vindolanda are a 30-40 minute drive away, from the cottage and the attractions are outdoors, so keeping a distance from others was no problem. We also recommend visiting Bamburgh Castle and beach, the drive is a little longer at about 2 hours (including roadworks). Again the attraction was still open, with some restrictions in place due to Covid. All tickets had to be booked in advance for these places due to restricted visitor numbers, but there was no problem doing this. The hosts are lovely and the views from the cottage were just as nice. We would recommend a stay here.

Mr Sanderson “If you like to be close to nature then Finney Hil Green is right for you.”
If you want peace, quiet, and a place simply to be, then Finney Hill Green is a good place for you. And if you want a good bed, neat bathrooms, a good lounge area, and a fully fitted kitchen then Finney Hill Green gives you all of that. If you want to be 100% satisfied, yes, Finney Hill Green is the spot.
- Mr Sanderson, September 2020Mr Harris “Peaceful setting, beautiful countryside with a rich history.”
Quiet roads to explore the big landscape and accommodation to return to that has everything you need.
- Mr Harris, September 2020Mr Bott “Great cottage, lovely quiet location.”
If you want to spend some time in the peace and quiet of the countryside, but with all the cottage facilities that you might need, this can't be faulted.
- Mr Bott, September 2020Mr French “Peace and quiet was most welcome”
- Mr French, March 2020Mrs Baker “For an 'away-from-it-all' holiday with the most spectacular countryside views, the only sounds are from the birds, occasionally the chickens, cows, pigs and meow from the cat, then this is the place for you.”
The chickens and cat will visit if you encourage them, but otherwise will leave you be. The barn is comfortable and exceptionally clean and renovated to a very high standard. Richard and Viv (the owners) were on hand if we needed anything or just for a general chat about their animals. The village is about a mile away and will cater for most needs. There are 3 pubs but we didn't get further than the first, the Golden Lion, as the food was excellent and at a good price. Not a massive amount to do in the local vicinity unless you are interested in castles, ruins etc but Bamburgh Castle was only an hour and a half drive away and definitely well worth the visit. It is the sort of place where you log into Rightmove as soon as you are back home (or in our case while we were still there) for a little slice of the Northumberland countryside. The only downside to this holiday is that it makes returning home to blighty and work all the more depressing but after tapping a few keys on the computer, another week will be booked for next year to look forward to.
- Mrs Baker, September 2019Mr Hall “This is a really comfortable cottage, the fittings, furnishings and decoration are first class, possibly the best cottage we have stayed in.”
The location is in beautiful Allendale valley with good local facilities nearby in Allendale Town. The cottage is tucked away in the surrounding fields with cows, sheep and chickens close by so be prepared for the occasional muddy shoes etc. even though we had a lot of rain this was not problem. This is an ideal place for discovering South Northumberland, especially for Hadrian's Wall and the associated forts etc. We are looking forward to returning to this cottage.
- Mr Hall, August 2019Mr Oliver “Great cottage in a superb location.”
- Mr Oliver, July 2019Mr Wheatley “This is our second stay at Finney Green Hill and met all our expectations to once again make this a great holiday.”
Richard and Vivian are very welcoming and we had the added bonus on this visit of being invited to see their 3 new born calves - very sweet. A third visit is on the cards.
- Mr Wheatley, June 2019Mr Dawson “Nothing to add”
- Mr Dawson, May 2019Mr Von Dinther “Prefect for people who like walking”
- Mr Von Dinther, April 2019Mr Chadwick “We have been staying at Finney Hill Green since it opened and have been every year since and we have not been disappointed.”
It’s a great base for any holiday to Northumberland and Cumbria with lots to do in the surrounding area. The barn is beautiful, very clean and has all the facilities of home. The surroundings and views are amazing and Viv and Richard are always warm and welcoming and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. On our most recent trip it snowed and in the morning there were sledges left outside our door so our children could enjoy the sledging on the hills. This made our week one to remember and memories we will always cherish. Such a thoughtful thing to do. We would recommend to anyone and have already booked to return next year.
- Mr Chadwick, March 2019Ms Dunkley “We enjoyed our stay at the holiday home.”
Only a small issue was that the parking was a bit away from the property so lots of mud in the fields , which yes I totally get we stayed on a farm, if you wanted to go out in decent foot wear think again, you had to take a extra pair of shoes out with you., but that is just me. the property was lovely , very warm, great walks and great views from the property. We had a problem with the TV, I rang the owner and he came around straight away to sort it , which was really nice of him. Thank you
- Ms Dunkley, February 2019Mr Bennion “Excellent property, amazing views, well equipped and very comfortable.”
The owners were very welcoming. Highly recommend.
- Mr Bennion, September 2018Dr Hunt “Really peaceful place to chill out”
- Dr Hunt, April 2018Ms Williams “Lovely cottage in a great location and we would love to return.”
The only downside was the very muddy parking area in the field. (wellies were a must really, though as we didn’t have any, our boots had to do)and the muddy walk from car to front door, not great with luggage. Some hardcore for the car standing and a bit of gravel for the path would help.
- Ms Williams, February 2018Mrs Phillips “Ideal for what we wanted out of our break.”
The reason that we would not rebook is the owners are not takeing pets
- Mrs Phillips, November 2017Mrs Banks “Extremly high standard barn conversion.”
Decorated beautifully . Well equiped and very cosy. Owners very helpful and on hand next door if you need them. Would definately recommend to friends.
- Mrs Banks, October 2017Miss Sutcliffe “Lovely property in beautiful surroundings.”
Would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone looking at staying in that area of the country.
- Miss Sutcliffe, July 2017Mr Ellarby “We found the property was in excellent condition and the view from the patio was beautiful.”
Excellent location to visit the area with plenty of local walks.
- Mr Ellarby, May 2017Mrs Filmer “A fantastic holiday home in the most amazing setting with wonderful views.”
- Mrs Filmer, May 2017Mrs Ramsey “We loved the cottage and the location - both idyllic.”
- Mrs Ramsey, April 2017Mr Baker “There is an enclosed garden but a public footpath does run through it, so this may be a consideration if you have a dog, other than that PERFECT.”
- Mr Baker, February 2017Mrs Davies Hunt “Finney Hill Green is a beautiful property with lovely views.”
All furnishings and appliances are of a high standard and every comfort thought of. Cozy and warm , comfortable beds and peace and quiet. Spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend!
- Mrs Davies Hunt, January 2017Mrs Gibson “Booked for a honeymoon weekend away and it was absolutely beautiful property with views to die for.”
Loved our time and wish could of stayed longer, definitely going back
- Mrs Gibson, November 2016Mr Nash “The cottage was very comfortable and equipped to a high standard.”
It made an ideal base to explore the area. I would definitely recommend it due to its excellent facilities.
- Mr Nash, October 2016Mrs Watson “Perfect cottage, perfect location, highly recommendable.”
- Mrs Watson, September 2016Mrs Sparrow “The property itself was superb, extremely comfortable.”
Owners, Richard and Vivian went out of their way to be helpful. The cottage is a bit isolated being a mile from the village up a very steep hill, so all being of a certain age, walking there and back was not an option. This did not stop us from enjoying the area, the views are outstanding and the weather was lovely. Altogether a most enjoyable break.
- Mrs Sparrow, September 2016Mrs Chapman “The owners were very friendly.”
The views were outstanding and our children loved all the freedom the large garden offered them. It was a fantastic property.
