  • "Perfect property in a perfect location, every comfort catered for."

With local shops, cafes and walking from the front door you can park the car up for the duration of your stay .One minor niggle is there is no off road parking as it's either outside the church or in the main square,we had 2 vehicles with us and always managed to get a space but the listing is incorrect but it does not detract from being an excellent choice. Please look at the owners web site for more information on walks ,places to visit and local food outlets as this will help you on deciding to book this home from home

Thank you for the feedback we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Please checkout our website www.grovecottageallendale.co.uk for any future bookings. The car park outside the church is free and generally always has spaces Property Owner

The cottage was spotlessly clean and really well presented. The area it very quite with some lovely walks right from the door and an excellent base to explore hadrians wall and Northumberland. We loved the open fire after long autumn walks and had fun learning to use the aga which was much more simple than we thought it would be.

The owner popped round to welcome us when we arrived, and also came to say goodbye as we were leaving. The cottage is in a great location, with amenities right on the doorstep. It is really well equipped, and the games room was an added bonus during the periods of biblical rain we had! The pizza van, which comes to the main square on a Tuesday evening, made brilliant pizzas - not to be missed! We’ve had a truly lovely week at Grove Cottage!

The kitchen was brilliantly stocked - and I easily managed to cook on the Aga. The location was a bonus - Allendale is a lovely village - we soon made friends with the fabulous butcher and host at The Golden Lion - where we had some fantastic fish and chips. Further afield we loved visiting Hexham, Corbridge (my favourite), Amble and Warkworth. Hadrian's Wall is only a few miles away and Alnwick of course is wonderful. We would definitely like to return to stay in this beautiful cottage.

  • "When we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely cozy and warm cottage."

There were plenty of places to sit and relax and the kids enjoyed the games room (especially the darts). The location is perfect for enjoying walks (if you had a dog, this would be the place to stay) and there is a park not far from the cottage (which our 12 year old loved). Emma's cafe is lovely (I can recommend the tea and scones) and there is a little sweet shop inside. The Coop is literally on the doorstep and the local pub was great for a drink too. Not far to visit Hadrian's wall and a day trip to Newcastle as well was brilliant. Thanks Jenny

The interior of the cottage was beautifully set out ,well equipped, spotlessly clean and lovely and warm. With two dogs there was no worries coming back to the property muddy as the patio area handily had a tap and the games room had sinks and dog towels for cleaning. With lots of walks from the door described on grovecottageallendale.co.uk we were spoilt for choice. Any worries about cooking with the aga were quickly dispelled, it was so quick and easy. Wish we had one at home.Could not fault the property and look forward to returning soon.

  • "This cottage is a hidden gem."

We stayed over Christmas and it was such a beautiful place to spend the festive period. When you are away in winter time, you want somewhere cozy and spacious. This cottage definitely ticks these boxes. It is thoughtfully and tastefully decorated. All of the kitchen equipment is high end. There has been no expense spared in making this cottage comfortable. It also has a games room with darts and even a table tennis table! We had really great fun in there! If you have a good dog they are welcome. Ours is blind, she navigated the space with ease and I think she felt safe, she loved lying by the AGA! If you like going to the pub it is just a 30 second walk away, but if you are not a pub fan, you would not even know it was there as it is so quiet. When you look out of the window you overlook a beautiful historic church. The CO-OP is a minute walk away. There is a beautiful independent butcher 2 minutes away! If you choose not to drive again for your stay this is easy, everything you need is a stones throw away. The cottage is by far the most superior we have ever stayed in!

One of the cleanest rental properties I've been in, so well done Andrew and Sarah :) Fun using an Aga for the first time; it really isn't that difficult once you apply general cooking and slow cooking methods. I used the simmering oven for both a risotto and a chilli and both were perfect meals. Lots of good walking and sightseeing within a hour or so's drive, depending on where you want to go. Coop 1 mins walk or a very good Tesco in Hexham. Excellent butchers in the square which I used. We didn't meet Sarah but met Andrew on a few occasions; always ready for a chat and enquiring how we were finding our stay. Keep on doing what you're doing Andrew and Sarah. We had a lovely time. • "Grove Cottage is lovely and very well situated."

It was clean, very comfortable and very well equipped. Lots of parking, the local pubs were welcoming and the food was good even for a fussy vegetarian like myself. The only issues we had were the microwave being in a cupboard on the floor so it needed lifting onto the worktop to use. I know it kept the kitchen looking lovely but not very practical for someone with a bad back like me. The aga stove was also a bit of a problem as after a days walking I just wanted to cook a frozen pizza or something with oven chips …..not that straightforward in the aga. There were no instructions on how to use it as the owners said it was easier to explain in person but unfortunately they were called away and ended up knocking on the door at around 9.30pm by which time we’d gone to eat in the pub and were relaxing in front of the tv. A text/call would have been better at that time of night with an offer to visit Sunday if we needed them to. Overall we had a great time and would recommend Grove Cottage …..just brush up on your aga skills before you go!

Thank you for your positive feedback on the cottage. Unfortunately there is no where else to store the microwave but it’s has been noted. In relation to the Aga there are full written instructions in the Welcome Folder which was left on the glass table in the kitchen. Property Owner

  • "What a beautifully appointed cottage!"

The photographs don’t really do it justice. Everything was very clean, spacious and comfortable, perfect for relaxing and as a base for exploring the varied locations locally to Allendale and further afield. The village itself it a very welcoming and friendly place, having visited the church, the two pubs around the corner (excellent food and drink) the gallery and other local shops. Andrew met us on arrival, making sure we had everything we would need and showing us how to use the Aga- which we got used to pretty easily. The personal touches really made a difference- from the lovely welcome pack, fresh flowers and dog treats to the great selection of DVDs and games to keep us entertained when the weather wasn’t at its best. If you aren’t sure whether or not to book a holiday that is not so near the delightful coast - don’t hesitate. We easily reached the beaches - it really didn’t take long. But also, we explored many more other parts of the rich and varied countryside of Northumberland that perhaps we would not have gone to; Derwent Reservoir, Kielder Water, Allenheads, (fly fishing there was a hit!) Hexham Abbey, Hadrian’s Wall and Homestead, to name a few. Lots of brilliant nature and fascinating curiosities- You won’t be disappointed! Thank you Andrew and Sarah for our lovely holiday retreat.

  • "Just back from our 4th visit to Andrew's fab cottage."

Another busy week visiting our daughter and family. Beautiful weather, even had chance to sit on the sun beds on the patio and enjoy the late afternoon sun.The dogs are very tired after enjoying lots of walks in the woods and surrounding area. Thank you again Andrew for all your hard work keeping the cottage just perfect. Have noted a previous comment on the website concerning the chiller unit from the pub, keeping guests awake. Would like to comment that we have never found a problem with this in any of our visits. Hopefully be back for return visit either before or just after Christmas .

Many thanks for your feedback. The owner has spoken to the pub landlord who has agreed to switch the air-conditioning unit at the back of the pub off each night at 11pm. Property Owner

Allendale is ideal for exploring and walking holidays. Grove cottage is slap bang in the middle of the village and is beautifully clean and well equipped. Our only suprise was that we chose it because as two adult couples we wanted two bathrooms, so would rather an en suite than a large wet room. However, nothing stopped us enjoying the cottage. The games room provided lots of laughs and entertainment.
