Found the drying room particularly useful for drying off our dog and leaving towels and clothes and boots to dry away from the main living area. Barry’s welcome gift of scones and rock buns with butter and jam and fresh milk is always worth looking forward to and gives a pleasant start to the holiday.

High Broadwood Hall Cottages

Allendale 1.2 miles. A couple of fresh, warming cottages in the grounds of High Broadwood Hall, based just off of the town of Allendale in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The two barn conversions, Dove Cottage being stone-built, sit in a wonderful position, overlooking the nearby fields and hills. These cottages have been awarded 4 Star Gold as well as a Gold Award from Green Tourism and an Award for Cyclists and Walkers. Both are eco-heated and very well-furnished will rustic wooden latch doors and excellent open plan living areas boasting comfortable seating areas with a range of books, games and DVDs as well as well-appointed kitchen areas. Dove Cottage showcases the original wooden beams and stone walls that have been there since it was built. All of the bedrooms in the High Broadwood Hall Cottages are pleasantly decorated with delightful bed linen and plenty of clothing storage, they also have classy en-suite facilities. When the sun comes out, make sure you make the most of your outdoor seating areas, perfect for your morning coffee or even some al fresco dining with some incredible countryside views to accompany it. You are in an ideal spot for exploring the North Pennines with its hills, valleys, waters and wildlife, it is a great location for an outdoor holiday. Allendale Town offers the essential amenities with shops, cafes and a choice of pubs. Nearby, Hexham is a good place to visit with its wide range of amenities and the astounding Hexham Abbey. A pair of wonderful cottages in a beautiful location.

ALLENDALE

Hexham 11 miles; Allenheads 8 miles; Newcastle 34 miles.

The town of Allendale was once the centre of a busy lead mining area, and many relics of the mining era remain around the area. Allendale is ideally placed for access to Carlisle and Lake District to the west, Hexham, Newcastle and Durham to the east and the Hadrian's Wall just to the north, as well as the Scottish Borders. There are lots of walks, cycling opportunities and unspoilt villages in the surrounding North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is an ideal location for exploring the surrounding countryside or travelling further north to the glorious Heritage Coastline. Allendale is home to the New Year tradition of Tar Bar'ls well worthing seeing or visit in the autumn to visit the Allen Valleys Folk Festival. Furthermore Allendale is a popular stay for cyclists carrying out the Coast to Coast.
