  • "We normally book remote rural cottages, however we would have no hesitation returning to The Dale Townhouse, the location is superb, situated right on the market place with two pubs, an independent co op,and a butchers and Post Office right on the doorstep."

Lots to do and see in the local area, also Hexham and Hadrian's Wall a short car journey away. The cottage is clean, warm and cosy, very well equipped and maintained, with a dog friendly enclosed garden. The owners are very helpful and one small problem was sorted immediately, cannot fault the service or the cottage. We will certainly return.

  • "The Dale Townhouse was perfect for our family reunion (5 adults + 2 dogs)."

The house was well equipped and provided everything we needed. Allendale Town itself is a delightful place and everyone was very friendly. There is an independent cooperative which caters for not just food and drink needs but a general assortment of household and laundry items but we always bought our meat from the butcher who was so lovely and extremely helpful. We visited several places within a 1 hour drive but our favourite thing to do was a walk from Allendale to Allenmill bridge along the river and visit Coffee & Kuriosities for delicious homemade cakes/scones along with a cuppa. Our only regret was not finding that walk earlier in the week else I think we would have been there everyday!

  • "Had a great week, the weather helped."

We asked for a couple of deck chairs and the owner provided sun loungers within 5 mins, great service. The seating could be more comfortable, we didn't use the middle floor sitting room as wasn't very inviting. That said everything else we needed was provided, excellent towels. Good location in centre of village, quieter than expected. Would definitely consider returning in future.

  • "The property was very clean and tidy, it has fantastic space and unlike many really could sleep at least 6 people comfortably."

Lots of bathrooms and en suites make it a great family house. It's been relatively recently renovated so is modern in style, but still has a lot of character and charm. Good hot water, nice towels and bed clothes. Great access to a really good local shop, and two local pubs. The property is a bit let down by the lack of warmth and creature comforts and a bit of tiredness. I'm not sure how you'd cook for six in this home as the saucepans were small and rather worn out. There was no dryer, so dealing with a lot of kids clothes etc might be tricky. We encountered a bunch of blown bulbs, broken kitchen equipment, and a persistent smell from all the bathrooms which meant we kept the windows open. Cooking in the kitchen was not helped by the lack of lighting; the open plan downstairs is pretty dark even in daytime. The upstairs lounge is more like a kid's room, the sofas were not really geared towards adults in shape and size, and there's no table or desk. Apart from the dining table, which is very badly lit, there were no tables or desks anywhere, and the WiFi was unsecured, so I wouldn't want to try and work from home whilst staying here. The listing claim of off-road parking is a bit cheeky - there is parking but it's just the usual public parking outside the house, and it's very much in the road. It's definitely a townhouse and not a cottage. For dog owners and those with families - the garden is not secure, in at least one place the wall dividing it from next door is only about a foot high. There's a communal garden attached, which does have a beautiful view and is good for kids. Can be a bit noisy out the back, as all of this row of buildings are holiday rentals, including a large bunkhouse a few doors down.

It was cosy, comfortable and well equipped. The use of the bigger garden was very welcome and we enjoyed the beautiful view while eating pizzas from the visiting pizza van!

  • "A lovely property in a great location."

Met the owner who is a really nice down to earth guy. Had a great time there. Great for walks and dog friendly garden. Parking no problem and nearby shops and pubs provide essentials. Only quibble. Perhaps a pantry for non fridge items. Have no hesitation in recommending it. So well appointed, spotlessly clean and with character. Will go again. Owners should be proud.

  • "Great townhouse located in the centre of The village, which means everything is just a short walk across the square away."

The pub food was excellent on our couple of trips out and the people were so welcoming. The settees on the first floor are very low which made them very hard to get in and out of if you wanted to use that room to watch Tv and the town house could benefit from a dryer. But with those minor points we enjoyed a fabulous week in Allendale

  • "Great 3 story house."

The property was very clean, with a well equipped kitchen including a washing machine and dish washer. 2 en-suite bedrooms and a separate bathroom on the 2nd floor next to the bedroom. Great to have a second sitting room too. Small enclosed garden at the rear of the property with a table and chairs and larger enclosed garden behind that which can be used by the townhouse Monday to Thursday or when not in use by the Manor House. Two pubs with less than 50 yards of the house, food in Golden Lion was great. Forge cafe was good for breakfast too, or Jill’s cafe in Catton is very good but a 5-10 min drive from the house. There is a great Indian restaurant about 1.5 mile away that does take away or eat in and a pizza van the visits the square on a Tuesday, so no need to cook if you don’t want too. Both pubs are dog friendly. Great stay overall to be recommended.

It is well equipped with everything needed to enjoy your stay and has homely touches that show the owners have gone the extra mile to ensure your stay is perfect. The property has a central location on the market place, close to all amenities, however there is no disturbance from noise. Allendale Town is a lovely place and the locals are friendly. The Golden Lion serves excellent food, but you need to book. The Indian restaurant is also lovely and the pizza truck on a Tuesday is a must There are many opportunities for walking and taking in the breathtaking scenery and the town is well placed for visiting all the must see places in the area. I would recommend this property to anyone.

It was good that there was garden space in the nice weather and very nice that we had use of the shared garden space beyond our garden. The views were great from the decking. Good setting in the village with the 3 pubs, shop and post office within 50 yards. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay

  • "Lovely house in a brilliant setting."

The bedrooms are fantastic. The ground floor might feel a bit gloomy in less than perfect weather (we could not have been more lucky and had a weak of glorious sunshine) and could be better lit, but the first floor living area is much brighter. The back garden is a sun trap and perfect for sitting out with a book or eating outside for four. We had one issue during the week - insufficient hot water to fill the enormous bath - and I texted the owner directly and he was round within an hour to sort it out! I can recommend the walk from Allendale to Allen Mill and the coffee shop there. Plenty of opportunities for kids to paddle and dogs to splash on route. There’s lots of other fantastic walking nearby. The cafe at the Forge gallery is superb and is no more than 20 yards from the house’s front door. One thing to note - totally outside of the owners’ or Sykes’ control and it didn’t spoil our trip at all - but it was pretty rowdy outside the two main pubs in the market place on the Saturday night. That may have been because it was the first hot Saturday night since pubs reopened after lockdown, and it being a bank holiday weekend, but it was noisy into the early hours. Of the pubs in the village, the Golden Lion does the better food, and catered well for the two vegans in our group with a bit of notice. A really enjoyable week!

The house was spotlessly clean and the owners provided a travel cot, high chair and changing table which made traveling with a baby much easier. We enjoyed a week with our 8 month old and appreciated the extra living room that was perfect for her to play in. Weather was mixed but we made the most of the local amenities, as well as going on a couple of beautiful walks from the house. A perfect place to stay to have a break from city life.

The rear of the property which you can use during the week is totally fantastic ( it’s part of another property owned by same owners which you are welcome to use, but only if it’s not being used by the other holiday makers) it has a lovely decked area, barbecue area, fire pit area and lovely kiddies swings, slides etc. Dale townhouse offers a lovely relaxed ground floor living area with a log burner, lovely dining area and well equipped kitchen, for those who don’t like it so warm, 2nd floor offers a chill out zone, also with a log burner for one log maybe ( my wife liked it up there to do her crocheting ) the bedrooms are lovely with nice soft bedding and comfy beds, showers are great too, also a bath if you fancy a soak. This really is a lovely place for a break, owners are really good and at hand should you need them, town is really friendly with 3 really nice pubs who serve amazing food, the area is lovely too. We had a truly lovely break and would encourage others to do the same.
