  • "A lovely stay with lots of walks close by."

It was a perfect, remote place for us to stay over the new year to avoid the fireworks for our nervous dog. The fire was a perfect addition to make the cottage even cosier.

  • "We had a lovely stay."

The cottage was decorated in a nice, simple way. It accommodated for our Springer spaniel. The wood burner was a big selling point for us, making it very cosy in the dark nights

  • "The property was private and cozy even though it's on the site of a working family farm."

That was actually one of our favorite parts, it felt like we were part of the countryside/community for a couple days. And we loved saying hello to the dogs and alpacas/llamas. We visited on a chilly weekend, so definitely use the space heaters provided if you get cold easily. We only used the wood stove (on purpose) and though that heats the living area so well and was extremely cozy, it was a little chilly in the bedroom without the heater on. Again, we did that on purpose, but not all like that. Our hosts were lovely the couple times we saw them and they were super responsive to texts - for example when we needed more kindling or teabags. The surrounding countryside was gorgeous and the inn/restaurant just down the road (The Crossings Inn) was great and so close by. It's also in Hadrian's Wall country. We loved it.

About the location

BRAMPTON, CUMBRIA

Carlisle 10 miles.

The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is a wonderful base for exploring this historic and scenic area.
