"A lovely, cosy cottage, very clean and comfortable."
Comfy sofas and bed. Compact and pleasant kitchen and lovely bathroom. The cottage is full of character and in a central location yet quietly tucked away in a conservation area.
-
"Lovely little cottage ideal for a couple."
Very comfortable and well equipped. Decor very tasteful. Clean and well maintained. A welcoming bottle of milk and pack of cakes much appreciated. Was able to park under window at front with care but a larger car might struggle. The streets leading to the house are very narrow but passable. You can park in the town centre a few minutes away. A good place to use as a base. Recomend the steam train ride. We went to Slaggyford then walked back 5 miles on an easy dry path. Also recommend a ride to Vindolanda Roman fort very interesting spent the whole day there. Well worth the admission. Have no hesitation in recommending King's Cottage.

The cottage was cosy, clean, well equipped & in a lovely area . Lovely walks locally , people very friendly. It's a shame the garden isn't enclosed so our dog could wander freely though. The owner Val was very helpful. Great relaxing break.

"The cottage was excellent, really clean and comfortable."
Owner was really helpful, making sure the heating was on before our arrival also offering a later departure as the cottage was free for that day. A very nice gesture that we really appreciated. We highly recommend this cottage and definitely love to go back. 10 out of 10

"The cottage was just lovely."
Very comfortable stay in a home from home. Furnished and appointed to a high standard. It had all you need for a weeks stay away. There was nothing more you could want for! Just fabulous. The location of the cottage was minutes away from a most friendly old small town with all the amenities you would need i.e local shop, variety of places to eat and amazing pubs! There are also numerous stunning walks right on the doorstep, no need for a vehicle unless you wish to see further afield. All in all wonderful relaxed holiday. Thank you to the owner Val too, who was most friendly and welcoming.
-
"Really enjoyed our stay."
Great for an adult escape. We'll situated for great country walks. Being able to take our dog was really important to us so the cottage was ideal.

"The cottage is ideally situated."
A stone’s throw from the Market Place in Alston with shops and amenities yet tucked away, characterful and quiet. Excellent base for wonderful walking country. The owner was very helpful and welcoming. Thoroughly recommended.
-
"Lovely cosy cottage in an excellent location, excellent communication with Val the host,a nice welcome to find milk and a lovely cake in the fridge."
We had a very enjoyable stay, had some lovely meals at the Cumberland Inn
-
"This was a walking holiday, doing walks in the local area."
Alston is also central for further afield, Hadrian's Wall, Durham City, Teesdale, Lake District. The town has all of the amenities required for a successful holiday. The town & the surrounding countryside are very hilly & may not be suitable for people with mobility problems The cottage is in a quiet & historic part of the town two minutes walk from the town centre. The only difficulty would be parking a large car outside of the property, but their are plenty of alternative parking in the town.
-
"Lovely location in a very friendly village."
Good walks nearby. The owner,Val, was delightfully helpful and friendly.
-
"Nice location."
Quiet place with lots of good walks. A couple of good pubs and one great one. Interesting history. Cottage was clean and well presented, but comfortable. Was made to feel really welcome, although never actually met land lady, only spoke on phone.

"Fabulous week at Kings Cottage."
Lovely compact cottage in wonderful location. On arrival the owner (Val) had very kindly left us cake, milk, tea bags and doggie treats!! The cottage is very clean and well equipped. Alston is an excellent base to explore the Lakes. We had the added bonus of perfect weather. We will definitely be back
-
"We enjoyed our stay at King's Cottage, the cottage was clean and comfortable especially the bed."
We spoke to the owner before arriving and she was very welcoming and provided lots of information about the village. We appreciated the milk and cake that was left for us.We were able to park directly outside the cottage without any issues. The village was quiet and relaxing with some interesting shops and a visit to the South Tynedale Railway is a must, especially as they are very dog friendly.

"Had a great holiday cottage was great really comfy and cosy, owner couldn't have ..."
Had a great holiday cottage was great really comfy and cosy, owner couldn't have been nicer and the location was lovely well worth a visit to Alston
-
"Kings Cottage was brilliant."
The owner had thought of everything, the little touches were great...i.e. she had left, a cake, milk, dog biscuits and a birthday card for my husband. It is tastefully furnished, cosy and relaxing. The sleigh bed was soooooo comfy. I would recommend this cottage to anyone. Alston it's self has very friendly natives. The shops are two minutes walk away.
-
"Liked the cottage - cosy and clean- and the location."
In the middle of a pretty little village, with a coop store and three pubs within three seconds walking distance. Two beautiful river walks , also three seconds away, suited our dog very much. Lots of things to do and see nearby, such as Adrian's wall, Ullswater with steamers and beautiful walks, and a few pretty towns with little shops. Cumbria landscapes while driving around are impressive.
-
"Cosy welcoming cottage."
Home from home. Lovely walks nearby but near enough to village shops. Alston is a very dog friendly place. The South Tynedale Railway is in easy walking distance. Had a nice relaxing break.
-
"Great holiday!"
Cottage was perfect! Great location - close to everything in the town - so convenient. Cottage was perfect - very clean and the bed was so comfortable! Very spacious as well. Would love to go back! Lovely town and area is beautiful.
-
"Cottage location was within close location of restaurant shops pubs and walks perfect for beginners"
-
"Fantastic cottage although the instructions on how to find it weren't very easy to follow."
The cottage itself was beautifully furnished and really comfortable. Easy access to the town and also to open countryside. The owner was really friendly and helpful when I called to ask about key collection, recommending local places to walk and eat and she'd even left a cake which I thought was a lovely touch. Alston is peaceful and the locals were very friendly. Very dog friendly too! Lots of walks close by and the pubs are all dog friendly which was great. Only issue was parking. If you have a larger car don't attempt to drive down to the cottage as there are very few places to turn round again! Other than that a perfect spot. Thank you!
-
"Holiday cottage was comfy warm ,clean and very welcoming."
Would stay again in a heartbeat. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the owners. Could not have asked for anything more. Nice pubs to have meals in a 5 minutes walking distance . Good parking and although we went to relax and do as little as possible felt like we had missed out on seeing what was on our doorstep. People from all nation's raving about the area. We have stayed in another two properties in Alston one was an apartment and one a hotel. Kings cottage far surpasses them both .
-
"Val the owner went above and beyond ."
... Leaving a lovely home made cake and supplying a slow cooker , etc The cottage is in a beautiful town and the people are so very friendly Beautiful walks for our dog just out the door Will definitely recommend and be back Wonderful holiday

The cottage is traditional and welcoming, with exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace and a warming woodburner-effect gas stove, and is ideal for a romantic break.
Alston retains its traditional character, including a selection of pubs with open fires and real ales just a short walk from the cottage.
There are walks onto the moors from the cottage, and the Pennine Way passes through the town, which is also on the C2C Cycle Route.
With plenty of places to visit within an hour by car, including Hadrian's Wall, Beamish Open Air Museum, Durham Cathedral and the Lake District, this is a superb Alston cottage for a relaxing break.
About the location
ALSTON
Melmerby 8 miles; Penrith 18 miles; Stanhope 20 miles; Hexham 23 miles; Carlisle 29 miles; Barnard Castle 30 miles.
Alston is set in the North Pennines in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by a unique landscape of moorland, hills, rivers and waterfalls, and is England's highest market town. This intriguing town, with its cobbled streets and fascinating nooks and crannies, was the location for ITV's productions of Jane Eyre and Oliver Twist. Alston and the North Pennines have long inspired artists and writers; the poet and writer W H Auden loved the area and today Alston is an inspiration to the craftspeople who live and work there. There is a host of unusual shops in the town including quality crafts and galleries. Take a ride on one of the lovingly-restored steam and diesel engines through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley on the South Tynedale Railway which runs from Alston through to Slaggyford. The River Tyne is also noted as one of the finest salmon rivers in England and day-ticket fishing is available locally. The North Pennines used to be one of the wealthiest lead mining centres in Europe, and the Killhope Lead Mining Museum offers a great family day out with interactive exhibitions. With the drive along the A686 recognised by the AA as one of the world's best drives, and northern Cumbria, County Durham and Northumberland, all within easy reach, this makes a superb base.
