  • "Nicely positioned in the centre of Ambleside, yet so quiet."

We found the well equipped property an ideal base for our walking break. Some may find the size of the property a problem, this didn't bother us at all.

  • "The location description needs to be updated as there are no blue doors but black."

There were fragments of broken glass near the entrance door and one of the outside chairs was broken which was reported but nothing done. Visitors are asked to empty the bins on leaving into the council bin but where are the council bins?.

We are very sorry about the issues you have had . Unfortunately the message about the chair did not reach us . A replacement chair will be delivered. The description of the gate is being updated. Very sorry about the glass. There is a green council bin that should be in the yard we will check into this . Property Owner

  • "Cottage was lovely and exactly as advertised."

It had everything we needed., with the location central to Ambleside and a short walk to anywhere in the village, just perfect. The only problem is the car parking,. Although the parking permit system is simple, we couldn't find a space in any of the 4 small local car parks that took the permit, but that's Ambleside in the summer for you...busy. The only car parking we could find was in the only car park in the village where the permit isn't allowed, so we had to pay £6 for the first day and then get up at 7:30am the following day to move the car before needing to pay again, but managed to find a bay in one of the allowed car parks, parking wasn't a problem afterwards as we didn't move the car!

  • "Nice little cottage, well equipped and a pleasant little outside area for sipping a glass of wine in the evening."

A great base to explore the area from. We particularly liked the good quality towels, the shower and the dishwasher. Our only negative was the staircase which was steep and had no banister. Also the top step was very close to the end of the bed making it dangerous if one needed the loo in the night. Perhaps a baby/safety gate at the top may help?

  • "Chopping board missing"

We are sorry to hear of your problem and the inconvenience caused.Unfortunately the previous occupants had stored the chopping board in an unusual place. It was found when cleaning the property. To be doubly sure this problem doesn’t occur again a second chopping board is now in the property. Property Owner

  • "This property barely deserves the title "cottage"."

We have more living accomodation in our motorhome. The "cottage" was also in need of a proper clean. Skirting boards and radiators clearly don't feature on the cleaners list. This accomodation is not suitable for anything more than a weekend and even that only at a push.

Thank you for your your observations . We are very sorry that you were disappointed. We have taken the matter of the dusty skirting boards and radiator up with Lakelovers’s housekeeping who are appointed by us to keep the property clean. We together with Lakelovers have taken time to prepare the description of the property and that together with the photographs give a fair representation of it size etc. Property Owner

  • "The property was as described and pictured, small but comfortable and very well located in Ambleside and for exploring the Lakes in general."

The cooking facilities are minimal but we (a couple) managed to cook a few meals perfectly well on the hob and with the microwave, and the property comes supplied with plenty of cooking equipment and crockery. The bathroom appears newly refurbished and is smartly decorated with a powerful shower. It is a nice quiet retreat, away from traffic and though some noise can be heard from the workshop next door, they were very considerate to be quiet before 9am. Supplies at the property are very limited and, as a self catering property, we would have expected some basic self catering essentials to be provided such as cooking oil, salt and pepper, kitchen roll and toilet roll (only 1 supplied) so unfortunately we had to do a quick unplanned shop. There is a sticker on the boiler switch requesting the boiler is not switched off, however the radiator was on when we arrived (July) and the radiator valve seemingly not working. The timer switch is also very noisy, and given the boiler is positioned adjacent to the bed, is something to be aware of if you struggle to sleep with background noise, as we did. One thing that would have been really helpful to know in advance is that the house is down a small narrow street with limited parking. However there is a parking permit provided in the property that can be used for local car parks, and it is also valid in several other council car parks in towns nearby, which was very useful and saved us a lot of money.

  • "A nice cottage in a great location but far to small for a couple wanting a weeks holiday in the lakes area."

More suited to the one man and his dog scenario just wanting 1 or 2 nights before moving on. The bedroom is to small meaning that the bed is only 18 inches from the top stair. There is a significant risk to anyone using the bathroom at night.

  • "It was a tiny but lovely little cottage, perfect for one or a couple."

It was really quiet, in a little mews off a side street and you would never know it was there, whilst at the same time it was very central in the town centre and close to the bus stops, shops etc. It was a quaint little place with timber beams and had real character. Not much in the way of 'white goods' in the kitchen but you can make do. Overall I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely choose it again.

The interior of the cottage is beginning to look tired, especially in the kitchen, cabinets that do not shut, poorly fitted oven, and the shower needs improving, shower doors fail to meet and close properly, we first visited 8 years ago and it has deteriorated over the years, small amount of investment would make a lot of difference

  • "The cottage was clean and tidy but there were a small number of issues."

There were no dishwasher tablets, no scouring pad for washing up and no black plastic bags (we were asked to put the bed linen in one of these but couldn't find any). Similarly, there was only a single toilet left and many of the light fitting did not have bulbs in them. These are items we would not be expected to take with us and have not needed to on numerous visits to the Lakes on previous occasions when we have stayed in similar accommodation.

We thank you for your feedback further to your stay with us at Cobblestone Cottage. We do hope you enjoyed your holiday! I am responding on behalf of the owner of the property. I would like to express the apologies from the housekeeping department for the oversights you experienced during your stay. This is not usual for us and in this instance it seems it was just down to an error. The team have been made aware and we will continue to provide an excellent service on behalf of our owners. We would have been happy to attend if we were contacted during your stay to rectify these issues for you. We really hope to welcome you to stay with us again. Property Owner

  • "Cobblestone Cottage is very sweet and well placed in the centre of Ambleside."

It is MUCH smaller than expected (which does not come across in the photographs) and is all rather tired and in need of a refurb. There is no oven, although there was space for one (just a microwave). Although I think it must have been cleaned some time ago, all of the surfaces in the kitchen and bedroom and bathroom felt dusty and grubby and so I cleaned them all before use. The bedroom was so small that it was a real squeeze to get past the end of the bed (past the open stairway) to get to the bathroom. The bathroom door did not shut (when you see the layout, you will see how important this is). The bed was not at all comfortable and the red plastic sofa was totally out of place and rather horrid. The TV was the size of my iPad. The gas boiler (which I had to look straight at from my bed) kept firing up all night long which disturbed by sleep massively. We were not allowed to turn it off. It could be a fabulous place, despite it’s size. The access was a bit dodgy too and we had to literally squeeze past the electricians van (and we are both slim). A couple of times we also had to step over builders stuff on the floor of the cobbled passage. Not at all good value for money. I run my own AirBNB and my standards are much higher. Disappointing accommodation really.

We thank you for your observations but wish to point out. The description of the property says petite, the photographs show the leather sofa and we have no control over parked vans . The property has recently been fully redecorated new blinds fitted and new linen provided. The property had been spring cleaned after the decorating was carried out. We will address the issue of the shower room door over the coming days, and thank you for bringing this to our attention. The microwave/ oven is correctly advertised as such and and has since been replaced. We thank you for you feedback and hope that despite this issues had a wonderful time enjoying all the Lakes has to offer. Property Owner

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
