  • "Very happy with the Cottage it was so comfortable & cosy."

  • "The cottage is delightful with lovely views over Ambleside and Wansfell and we had a great stay but there were a couple of little niggles that led me to give 4 rather than 5 stars for cleanliness and comfort."

The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and we were warm and comfortable but although we didn't use the "sit ooterie" to the rear of the property, we did pop down to take a look and found some ? dog poop (possibly fox poop), on the cobbled ramp at its lower end. We also found the cottage a little cramped and the stair gate awkward as it kept springing out every time we shut the sitting room door and it's frame at floor level was definitely a trip hazard.

Thank you for your feedback and we're glad you found the cottage clean and comfortable. Apologies for the mess in the garden. We do rely on guests to clean up after their pets and can do little if this is not done. Our gardener comes monthly - given the size of the garden you will understand why, and he would have cleaned this but your stay must have been in between his visits. Nevertheless we have been up to the cottage and cleaned up. The stairgate is there to allow guests to keep pets from running up the stairs and I'm sorry you found it inconvenient. Nothing we can do unfortunately about the cottage being cramped: it is a traditional one bedroom late 19th century Lakeland cottage and by definition they tend to be cosy and small. Perfect for those cold winter evenings after a local walk. Property Owner

  • "This cottage is everything it states on the advert and is lovely and cosy with a modern twist."

The only negative is the cottage wasn’t cleaned and we walked in after what should’ve been a 3 hour journey that turned into 7hrs due to the storm to dirty bedding and towels from the previous occupants on the floor and no replacement bedding insight. After making a call to the main desk we were told it had been missed off the list for a clean . Having wanting to put our feet up we had to turn out again so the cleaner could arrive. Not a great start to our break .

We were very concerned to hear about your experience and have asked Lakelovers for an explanation as to why the cottage was not ready for your arrival. We changed managing agents last year and it appears that the booking the week before yours was the last booking organised by the old agent. I don't think they advised Lakelovers that guests had been and this confusion is being given as the reason for the clean having not been scheduled. Nevertheless that is not your concern and you had a right to expect the place to be clean and the beds made. I can only apologise for this and hope that Lakelovers took appropriate action to sort the situation. We hope this will not stop you from staying again. Richard & Diane (owners) Property Owner

Well equipped with some lovely extra touches, including the welcome pack and under floor heating. Quiet area, but only a short walk to the centre of Ambleside.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay. I think the weather was not the best for your stay but I hope you found the cottage cosy & warm. Ambleside is still active all year round so there is always something to find in the town. We hope you will come again. Richard & Diane (owners) Property Owner

  • "A lovely little cottage, with everything you could possibly need."

Dressing room for extra storage if required. The lower floor utility room is excellent for wet clothes and dogs. We arrived with the snow and the major incident, however the cottage is warm and cosy and the village has everything you require. The gas fire is an added bonus to take the chill off and you don’t have to keep worrying about stocking up with wood. Walks from the doorstep and gorgeous views from the living room. Some pint glasses might be helpful. A pint of milk in the fridge for arrival would have been gratefully received. These are just very minor things. The locals who live in the street were lovely and this is one of the best cottages, for all round meeting our needs, that we have stayed in.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate all constructive feedback and do act on it wherever possible. Unfortunately milk in the fridge cannot be organised as Lakelovers cannot provide a service for perishable goods. You should have received a welcome pack of tea, coffee and sugar, together with a bottle of Prosecco which we hope will compensate. We are glad you enjoyed your stay despite the atrocious weather. We arrived the week after for a few days and piles of deep snow were still visible on the road sides! We hope you will stay again. Richard & Diane (owners) Property Owner

The cottage has everything that you need in a lovely quiet location at top of Ambleside. Perfectly situated for wandering down into town and also close to the start of some fabulous walking routes, we didn’t need the car once while we were there. Like home from home for us and would definitely love to have stayed longer.

Thank you for your feedback, and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We're the same in that we park the car when we get to Ambleside and usually manage to avoid using it again until we leave! Hope we see you again. Richard & Diane (Owners) Property Owner

  • "The cottage is very cosy and comfortable with all mod cons and we absolutely loved the walks from the door step (not having to drive anywhere was bliss)."

Just a minor thing, we have not been able to use the facilities in the basement because of the step step down and also the sensor light was behind the gate so does not come on till we get to the bottom step to shut the gate, so a bit challenging negotiating the steep narrow passage. There was also a big pile of bird’s droppings outside the door to the basement , so have not been able to get in or sit in the garden (not wanting our dog to roll in the droppings or having to step on it to get into the basement). That aside, we have had a wonderful time walking and relaxing afterwards in your lovely cottage. Thank god the sun shone, we were expecting rain according to the weather forecast. Thanks you so much for letting us and our furry baby have it for a week.

Cleanest cottage I have ever been in. Very cosy and comfortable. I met the cleaning lady as I was leaving and thanked her. She was delightful. Care taker was brilliant, coming out on a bank holiday Monday. My fault!! I couldn’t get the password to work for the wi fi or find the key( under my nose) to the utility room!! Big thank you to both of them .

Thank you for your lovely comments, and for the appreciation of the work done by the cleaning and care staff at Heart of the Lakes. I'm delighted you had a lovely holiday and hope that we can welcome you back again one day. Kind regards, Richard & Diane Property Owner

The large bedroom window which showed such beautiful views was fantastic and a tranquil place to sit and relax. Bathroom with shower worked well and was easy to use,tap ind hand basin was a bit loose though. We used the small upper room to sit and read in during the times we were a bit limited by the weather. Living room also was set out very nicely and also had a wonderful large window to look out of over other gardens which were very green and lots of birds to watch. Only downside for us was the SMEG cooker and the baby gate frame as injured my toes on it. Thank you for the Prosecco a nice welcome to the start of our holliday

  • "The cottage was perfect for us - a mature couple who love Ambleside and walking!"

The layout of the property was really cleverly designed. The shower was excellent. Loved the button on the wall, which got the water hot before we stepped in the shower. The bed was very comfy as well. The little dressing room was a bonus for storage of items that we didn't need for the week eg suitcases etc. The hot water tap in the kitchen was also a novelty. Instant cup of tea! Fantastic views from both the living room and bedroom. The gas fire, with the remote, was very effective and a bonus for instant heat after a cold, rainy day. Parking was never an issue. The cottage is situated in a very quiet and accessible location and only a 10 mins walk down to Ambleside Granted not everybody would enjoy the walk back, as it is quite steep and requires a bit of effort! The weather was pretty wet all week, apart from one day when we were able to travel to Grizedale Forest where we hired bikes. Highly recommend for an active day! The only thing we didn't like was the TV on the wall, but that is a personal matter as we do not have a wall mounted TV at home. We found it a little uncomfortable when watching in the evening. A very, very small complaint! In terms of maintenance we did not think the radiators upstairs were that effective and the top half of the bathroom one was cold, suggesting it needs bleeding. However none of these issues affected the enjoyment of our stay at Little Robin Cottage and we would highly recommend

Stunning views from the cosy lounge and bedroom, tasteful and high quality furnishings throughout. Special mention goes to the remote control gas fire (not sure who loved it more, us or Lola). The button at bathroom door to start the shower is also a great idea. Even enjoyed the short walk back up the hill from the village , certainly got the heart pumping but don't be daunted by it. Never used an induction hob before but followed the clear instructions provided in welcome book and didn't have any problems. We enjoyed everything about our stay and will definitely be back.

Thank you for you comments, we really appreciate them. Glad you found the hob straightforward. I agree with you about the walk up the hill, it's a good way of getting a little exercise if you have been eating out. Hope to see you again. Richard & Diane Property Owner

My only other issue as the cook, is the hi tec hob. I found it very difficult to use, the touch controls seem to have a mind of their own - I did read the instructions, but sometimes it took minutes to get the child lock to turn off. We had an issue with a loose tap in the bathroom basin, but full marks to Sykes for getting that fixed very promptly. Please put a hook in the key safe! Its very hard to lodge the key in there as it is so smooth inside Joe & Margaret 01- 03 Nov

But we are 75. And wife has a replacement knee. We managed. It was only silly things that didn't seriously effect us.. the dog gate and my toes had several arguments. Should have removed. The slight step in bathroom has obviously been kicked and the flooring loose The cooker however is the main downer. The induction very temperamental and we are used to one. It could be the saucepan we're not really ideal for it. We have had similar problems with this mixed metals plate before. The oven we didn't fancy using as not happy with Gas and this wasn't easy.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. I note your comment about the dog gate but we have found that if we take this away we end up with dogs upstairs in the bedrooms, so we leave it in place even when guests have no pets. The step in the bathroom has been fixed, thanks for letting us know on this. Richard & Diane Property Owner

Thank you for your comments and we are glad you had a lovely stay. With regard to your comment about the hill, we do say in the particulars that the cottage is 'in a raised position', and of course there is not much in Ambleside that is on flat ground! The only issue we had was the heating is still not working upstairs, no heat at all from the bedroom radiator, this was a disappointment as this appears to of been an issue for several months now.

Christine. Thank you for your feedback. We visited the cottage this w/e and checked the heating. It transpires the thermostat clock had been altered by about 9 hours (please note I am not suggesting you did this) and the heating was therefore coming on at odd hours. I have re-set this and tested everything and all is working. This is not related to the previous problem with the boiler which was repaired successfully.
