  • "This was our 2nd stay here and I'm sure we'll be back."

Excellent location and everything about Loughrigg View is ideal. I can't fault it, including the fantastic support. We had an issue with the bathroom and it was all sorted without any fuss the same day. Highly recommend.

It was in the centre of Ambleside off a quiet street. It had everything we needed and was comfy and the interior was nice. Only downside was no garden just a small area outside the back door. Which isn’t private.

We were estatic about the location. Close enough to walk everywhere without needing to drive unless leaving Ambleside. We were also just enough out of the way to have quiet when desired.

Great location and very homely feel. Housekeeper (Sharon) could not have been more helpful and made the stay much more enjoyable. Problem with plug in bath was fixed quickly and without fuss and everywhere was clean and ready to go. Would definitely book again.

  • "Property was very good for four of us."

Well equipped & comfortable. Beds very comfy. Small issue with the strip across the floor between kitchen & living area & easy to catch feet on it & trip. Shower over the bath on 1st floor leaked onto the floor under the shower screen. Large bath towels would have been more desirable but this is a personal opinion. Overall we would recommend the property & it’s ideal for walking & dining from your front door. We visit Ambleside most years & would certainly use the property again.

  • "It’s really important to have an outside space to relax and the outside area was in a disgraceful state and unusable."

The outside noise being a busy road really disturbed our sleep especially regular early bottle collections very early morning. It was a good location and the upstairs main bedroom was beautiful

I am very sorry that the outside space did not meet your expectations. Loughrigg View, is a town house in the oldest part of Ambleside and is central to all the amenities the town has to offer. It is a haven for walkers who can start their walk from the doorstep. Being centrally located, Loughriogg View's rear space is a small flagged area with bistro furniture and you only have to walk outside of the front door and there is more beautiful green space than you could ever wish for. • "It was a lovely clean and well equipped cottage in an excellent location."

There were plenty of cleaning products around and measures were in place due to covid-19. Milk in the fridge and chocolates on arrival were a lovely touch and the parking pass was very welcome. My only disappointment was that the details said it was suitable for 5 people. The upstairs bedroom areas and bathrooms would certainly accommodate that many people comfortably however the downstairs kitchen / lounge area would not. We could sit 3 adults around the kitchen table at a squeeze but would have struggled to fit anymore.

  • "This is a very good cottage in a prime location."

It would be helpful if the parking permit was available to collect in Ambleside. Some minor improvements could be made. The decor is tired downstairs and stairway. The fireside rug requires replacing and the house would benefit from more thorough cleaning. Overall, I would recommend this property.

  • "The property could do with some maintenance, ie broken flush knobs on both toilets, shelving not straight in cooker due to loose racking at one side."

Would be better with electric showers as no consistent temperature. Could do with information file on heating, water, appliances etc as is normally found in a holiday property. Otherwise this is a good property in a great location for walks, pubs, shops etc.

  • "This was a lovely cottage in an excellent location however feel some points need raising."

Poor communication with "housekeeper" who couldn't answer our queries. These had been raised by previous guests in May but remained unanswered. No instructions for heating or cooker. Although generally clean a lot of cobwebs in light fittings. Both toilet flush buttons broken as well. It looks like neighbours are also using recycling bin which meant we couldn't leave rubbish.

  • "Lovely cottage right in the centre of Ambleside, handy for the numerous shops and restaurants and also a great base to walk from."

No parking at the cottage but a permit is available from Sykes to park at the main car park a couple of minutes walk away, we stopped in front of the cottage to drop off bags so it wasn’t a problem. As we were 3 friends travelling from different parts of the country we arrived in 3 cars but it was easy for 2 of us to purchase additional permits at £30 for 7 days directly from the machine at the car park, these can also be used in various other car parks in the area. On the top floor of the cottage is a beautiful double room with en-suite shower room and lovely views, the second floor has a nice twin and smaller single room with a house bathroom. Ideal for a family or friends. Thank you to Sykes as booking was very easy and all instructions and details very clear.

The house is definitely a home from home. The decor tasteful and the sofa's are soooo comfy! The white goods all easy to use and the location right on the doorstep to Ambleside. The welcome package was thoughtful and we never had a ' it's missing this or that' moment. The kids loved their rooms, our suite at the top of the house was private and so comfortable with an added bonus of the ensuite. We would love to go back..

  • "We loved the layout of the house, on three floors and felt the house was well equipped."

However, we felt that some areas of the house required cleaning, e.g. other peoples property left behind had not been lifted, blinds were dirty (also could not open first floor blinds due to broken chords so had to stick hands through blinds to open windows), toilet flushes broken although still were able to flush, second floor bed sheets were on inside out and were ripped. Having said this we did enjoy our stay in the Lake District.

  • "Overall fine, top bedroom very comfortable."

Thanks for the welcome pack. Also the call from the housekeeper on the day was very kind and welcoming, she was very helpful. However, although the description was accurate the place is quite small for 5 people, especially trying to get round the table to eat together. The kitchen could do with some oven ware (we had to buy a big lidded dish to do a pot roast). The pans that were provided were good. Using the TV through the Sky box is not straightforward if the previous people have altered settings or played through other devices. A laminated idiots' guide would be good. Woodburner didn't work very well. Might be worth advising people to lock the door at night, one of our party forgot and although firmly closed, strong winds blew the door open in the night. Bit of a surprise in the morning! We are not complaining, this is just for feedback. BW Steve

It was a nice place to stay, in a lovely location. We did have an incident with the key going missing, and unfortunately the only spare was with the property owner 2 hours away. However, Sykes were quite pleasant and helpful, and we were able to resolve the problem. Whilst looking for the key, we were surprised to find the property wasn't overly clean: we found quite a lot of crumbs, dust bunnies, and grease. Other than that, it was a nice stay.

Nice cosy cottage in a great location. Notes for improvement: The cottage could do with a wider range of cooking utensils e.g. more cutlery, cooking spoons etc. The duvet in the double bed had an orange stain (underside) on arrival. The £200 deposit for the parking permit meant we felt it was easier to buy a £30 car parking pass directly for the week instead.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Loughrigg View last year and although we still had a lovely time away this year - unfortunately the cleanliness of the house really was disappointing."

The house was very dusty and covered in cobwebs, the towels were old and some stained and the bedding in the main bedroom seemed to have black mould patches on it - I actually washed it myself after the first night and the house in general seemed a bit run down, with spills over the walls and a very big damp stain on the living room ceiling, which was there last year. The washer/dryer didn’t dry anything either, we had to turn the heating on and use the radiators and with 2 young children we had a fair amount of washing. We have actually re-booked for next July, in the hope it improves by then because it’s in such a good location, otherwise it will be our last stay there. It’s such a shame because it could be fantastic with a few tweaks and a good clean!

  • "A well-located, comfortable property."

No real problems, but I had the impression that the owners we're doing the bare minimum to make the house available to guests - absence of instructions for heating, washing machine etc., some slightly dirty areas, very limited visitor information, slight wear and tear, only two rubbish bags provided etc. Generally missing the "welcome factor". The house has huge potential and with a little more we effort could probably be moved into the "Exceeded" category. This isn't feedback you would want to publish, but I'll click "Yes" anyway.

  • "We Stopped in this cottage last Xmas and really enjoyed the location, cleanliness and facilities, hence the reason we decided to return this Xmas."

Upon arrival we were disappointed by the facilities and cleanliness of the cottage, this is echoed in the previous occupants review. The property seems a bit neglected and needs a bit of TLC to bring it back to the minimum standards you expect. As per the previous review recommendations are listed below (including those already raised): 1.) A thorough clean throughout - cobwebs on light fittings / ceilings etc., crumbs in the fridge and cupboards, sofas & dust behind objects on tables and cupboards etc. 2) Clean the oven - it needs it! 3) Provide starter logs (or don't say you will), fortunately we brought our own supply however first before we could use it we had the clean the glass of the burner as this was all blacked up from previous use 4) Towels Stained with bleach and no hand wash provided on middle floor toilet facilities 5) Toilet Flush Button of top floor broken and working intermittently 6) A nice touch would be to provide a welcome pack upon arrival to get you started especially as we were paying top dollar for the Xmas period. When we have stopped elsewhere in Ambleside with other companies we have always received a welcome pack. We love the Lake District but sadly will not be returning to this cottage as it does not compare with other cottages in the village we have used, which is a shame as we really enjoyed our previous visit to the cottage

  • "Loughrigg View is a great house in a terrific location."

Sadly it seems a bit worn and neglected compared to our last stay a year ago. This is nothing that a bit of TLC can't remedy, so here are a few suggestions: 1.) A thorough clean through - cobwebs on light fittings, crumbs in the fridge & dust behind objects on tables are not life threatening (but not very welcoming either) 2) Clean the oven - it needs it! And provide some instructions for how to use it. 3) Provide starter logs (or don't say you will) 4) If recycling facilities are not possible at the house, provide details of local recycling sites for guests who want to recycle We love Ambleside and its many amenities - we will be back but might well look for another place to stay......a shame because Loughrigg View has the potential to be really outstanding.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force.
