  • "We very much enjoyed our stay at Swallowdale."

Everything was provided as expected. We used public transport both to travel between home and Ambleside and for trips while we were there. It was great being so close to the bus network and other facilities, while also being in a very quiet location. We would certainly stay there again.

  • "Excellently equipped apartment."

Couldn't have asked for any more equipment or facilities. Great location. A king size bed would have made it perfect. The only complaint was that the duvet on the existing bed only just fit the bed width wise. Great to have an off road parking spot. All in all an excellent apartment. would definitely stay again.

  • "Excellent standard of kitchen equipment."

We missed nothing. A great central location with the Coop less than five minutes walk away. We appreciated the on site car parking space. Only a couple of things that need to be addressed, basically an update of the apartment arrival details. We had to ring to find out how to turn on the water supply when we arrived. I have left a note in the visitor’s book for future residents. Also information about recycling was not in the kitchen as mentioned in the notes that we found deep in a drawer not on the table ready for new arrivals. The details are stuck on the window as Oakland’s is entered. These are not easy to read. Please accept that elderly guests do not have great eye sight and a larger font is beneficial. These are only minor points otherwise we had an excellent week blessed with dry weather.

  • "Another lovely week at this comfortable little apartment."

Warm and cosy as always. Looking forward to returning. Only problem we found was that the overhead light at the door of the main building was out, making negotiating the steps up from and down to the main door, a bit of a problem in the dark.

We are sorry you had this inconvenience and thank you for telling us about it. As owners of the apartment we are not resonsible for maintenance of communal areas of the main building. We will immediately contact those who are. Best wishes! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week here at Swallowdale."

We arrived on 1 Dec, luckily just before a huge amount of snow arrived the following day, making our stay even better! The apartment has everything and more you could possibly need, and was very comfortable and warm. The very new owners came round to check all was ok, which was nice, and are replacing the sofa very soon. Great to have a parking space and an easy walk into Ambleside.

  • "Another lovely stay at this wonderful little apartment."

Slightly dated but adds to it's charm. Very well equipped, cosy and warm, plus the perfect location, quiet yet minutes from centre of village and private parking, making it a perfect break away. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you.

  • "Perfect location especially with our baby, to walk into Ambleside in minutes!"

Good sized rooms and lots of appliances to use. We had an issue when first arriving there was no water, however phoned the number on the information provided and they came to show us the stopcock and we had water again. There were two dehumidifiers in the property on arrival, and a note for them to be used. We found even with them on and windows on vent we still found moisture inside the rooms and on the patio doors. Kitchen - had all the appliances we needed, however when cooking, the extractor fan wasn’t doing much causing us to have to open the windows, but even that didn’t help. Living Room - Great sized space, TV was a bit low down for us, and sofa very uncomfortable (I had to sleep on it a few times as my little one wouldn’t settle). Bedroom - Again great size, the bed for me was a little hard, but partner slept! Bathroom - lovely, the shower needed more pressure In summary - Great location, and you get a car parking spot as this is difficult to find! Would stay again if a few things got sorted.

As new owners we are grateful for your comments. Issue with the shower and cooker hood are fixed and we are planning to replace the settee but delivery times can be up to 6 weeks. The comment on the TV is noted and we will deal with this as soon as possible. Meanwhile the TV is perfectly viewable where it is. Property Owner

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants, and pubs in the village to suit all tastes, including the popular eateries of Misto, Sheila's Cottage, and The Lily Bar. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
