  • "So 1st time staying here and to be honest my wife read the feedback not me so on arrival to discover there was no welcome pack was disappointing as not even soap to wash your hands after unloading the car and at nearly 5pm who really wants to head to a supermarket for basics?"

? That was my only gripe really the property was clean and tidy and was ideal for the dog with easy access to the rear garden so no drama there. If the owner see’s this the front door rattles in strong wind which is alarming throughout the night and after heavy rain all week the guttering was overflowing so might need sorting! But if your reading this review all I’d say is take everything with you that you need and we’ll definitely be back as it’s an ideal location for all the pubs etc!

  • "The house was very nice and we hope to return next year."

There are no instructions for the new heating controls and at this time of year late with the cold weather we had last week meant the house could get quite cold during the day. 25 Nov.-2 Dec.

Key for front balcony would be appreciated as would have sat out , especially in the summer. An early key check in would be great. Overall great stay to the point we are coming back on the 18th one of our best stays.

  • "There were no blinds in the bathrooms, and the supplied towels were small."

The property listing stated 2 baths, but these have been replaced - the new bathrooms were very nice but not as per the listing and photographs. The heating instructions in the property manual are incorrect and not for the new system in place. We could not get the heating above 17 degrees on most evenings with the small bedroom being so cold that our children woke up cold at 2am. Not what we wanted for a holiday. Overall, this has the capacity to be a great property but it feels incomplete, there are no additional blankets or pillows, it totally lacks any home comforts. There wasn't even a dishwasher tablet or welcome pack. This lack of finishing touches really let it down.

Thank you for your feedback. We will look at the listing to ensure that it is correct. We will also look at the issue that you experienced with the heating. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Todd Crag is a wonderful, comfortable property."

Extremely convenient for access to the fells and walking into Ambleside. . The bed is very comfortable, plenty of hot water , superb lounge with large smart tv. Parking outside the cottage is a bonus as are the local buses to the Langdales and Coniston. This is my 3rd visit this year and I have already booked for September.

  • "Location and overall style of the house are excellent ."

A few points make it 4 stars rather than 5 for us : a larger rug and a seat in the hall would work better for walking boot users; there needs to be another small saucepan in the kitchen and some specific instructions should be available for the TV. Notwithstanding these points, would definitely stay again - we are returning visitors already !

  • "We have stayed in Todd Crag before."

New beds are an improvement but the property still feels in need of TLC. The garden is sadly quite neglected. Our last 2 days were ruined by the smoke alarms beeping intermittently during our last 2 nights. Although Heart of the Lakes attended after the first night the problem was not resolved. Interestingly this problem has been reported before on other reviews yet it is still happening.

  • "The garden is very over grown with weeds and bushes and lets the property down big style."

The pathways are restricted due to the over grown vegetation in some areas dangerous because you can’t see where you are going. The so called gardener must cut the lawns but throws the cuttings in the boarders. Even one of the neighbours mentioned the jungle. There also a number a places with broken fencing where a dog could escape so for a dog friendly listing that could do with being sorted. Very disappointing. Otherwise be prepared for steep roads when walking to the property from town. Otherwise a great little property in a very nice quiet area with the occasional Deer in the neighbours gardens. Plenty of hot water and water pressure to die for. Facilities score is poor because if the gardens

Garage good for bikes. Warming gas fire in lounge. Good TV - you can connect to your own services like netflix but remember to log out afterwards. 2nd time here, no problems. --- Minor points. Garage door a bit sticky and needs a service. Would be good if you left basics like hand soap in the kitchen and bathrooms. Every time have to buy 4 bars of soap and leave them barely used at the end of the stay. Welcome pack is good but only 3 dishwasher tabs means you have to buy locally and Tesco only sell large minimum pack sizes. Remember to bring some basics with you but that applies to all rentals.

Set in a very peaceful location too. Bungalow is in good condition and well equipped for our holiday, the only gripe is lack of teaspoons and a bin for recycling, when on holiday you don't wish to be looking for a recycling centre. Well recommended

Nice kitchen ,couldn’t find a switch for the cooker hood maybe it’s automatic, never came on!lack of cleaning products if you’d have spilt anything luckily we didn’t.no visitor book either! • "We enjoyed a very pleasant couple of weeks staying in Todd Crag."

The house itself is spacious with a nice kitchen, good quality bathrooms and quite a large garden. Access to a garage is very helpful as we needed to store bikes and the drive was plenty big enough for two large cars. If I was being picky I would say that more pans were needed in the kitchen, one big one and two small ones is not great for cooking for a family of four. A couple of medium sized pans would be very helpful. Some of the bushes in the garden could do with a good trip too as various sets of steps are getting a bit over grown. In summary Todd Crag is a nice cottage and I would happily stay there again.

  • "Beautifully located on a hill and helpful to have parking in front of the house."

Slightly confusing bin emptying instructions and why no on-site recycling bin? We had to go down the hill with a bag of recycling to the recycling area at the bottom of the hill. Also couldn’t locate hairdryer and could’ve done with more coffee mugs and air fresheners in bathrooms. Modern appliances but smallish kitchen dustbin mounted in door. Little information on local sightseeing and places to eat a bit disappointing. Overall a pleasant stay.

  • "The cottage is in a beautiful position and the views are great."

Unfortunately the en-suite bathroom smelled of damp and it was difficult to get rid of the smell. Blinds or curtains are required at a number of windows and some of the furniture has seen better days. The garden is beautiful and it was such a great week of weather that we spent a lot of time outside.

For the avid walkers of the group there are plenty of beautiful walks in the area, with some particularly breathtaking routes towards Stock Ghyll Force, a 70 foot waterfall in a wooded area, as well as around the shores of Coniston Water which also offers some of the best mountain biking around.

Slightly further afield you can access Hawkshead and Esthwaite Water, along with Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere and Lakeside, each of which host their own attractions and atmosphere.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
