  • "Didn't find this property especially comfortable."

The bedrooms were nice and clean. But, the common area wasn't particularly comfortable. Additionally, the shower drain was plugged. One of the twin beds was very squeaky. And, there was no drying rack for the clothes.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you found the bedrooms to be clean. We will ask our Maintenance Team to look into the shower drain, and the squeaky bed. We would like to note that had we been made aware of these issues during your stay, we would have attended to resolve. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely cottage, its in a great place and we had a lovely stay."

That said, I feel I have to point out some things about inaccuracies with the listing, etc It is not open plan as stated. There are 3 double beds, not 2 double and a 4 poster king-size as stated. There is a washing machine. A washer/ dryer is listed. We washed clothes, we had difficulty drying them. There wasn't even a clothes rack or a line and pegs to hang them. Therefore we had wet clothes hanging all over the house, over chairs etc. Luckily we had hot sunny weather, if it had been wet we would have had issues drying our walking kit. There was no tin opener, a basic necessity on holiday. The dishwasher didn't work very well as it was out of salt and rinse aid. It would have been helpful to have some under the sink to refill. There were dirty dishes in the cupboard.

I am glad to see you enjoyed your stay at Waterhead Cottage.Thank you for your feedback. Please accept our apologies about the inaccurate listing. We have addressed all of these now. We have also spoken with the cleaning team about the missing items and the dirty plates as this falls below the normal standard we expect. • "The property was very quaint, it lacked adequate seating in the dining area for 8x people."

There was a dangerously loose/broken double plug socket in the lounge of which we tapped up for safety purposes. This needs replacing properly. There was a few cobwebs around but generally clean and well presented. We did however feel there was a lack of welcoming elements such as a small token welcome package as this is something we have received at all our other cottages in the Lakes. There wasn’t a front door key provided and the parking for additional cars should be explained as we had a neighbour indicate where we should park our second car. Overall our stay was enjoyable but we feel over priced in comparison to the other cottages we have stayed in over the years at the Lakes all which we book through Lake Lovers.

  • "First of all the positives about the cottage."

The location is great, just 100 yds from the pier at Waterhead and the lakeshore. The property was generally clean and comfortable and generally well equipped. Also having 3 bathrooms is great when there are eight of you staying. The downsides, was first the cottage was freezing when we arrived with no obvious instructions as to how to change the thermostat and heating control. When we`ve rented holiday properties in winter before we`ve always come into a nice warm cottage as the owner has expected our arrival and put the heating on for a couple of hours beforehand. We ended up having to call the agency to come in and set the heating up for us which they did very promptly, but it was only after finding a YouTube video that we set it up to how we wanted it. There was also a lack of instructions for some of the other gadgets, for example, the coffee machine, and it would have been very simple to just put a laminated sheet with instructions. Again compared to other properties we have rented they all have a folder with everything you need to know from instructions for all the various appliances to useful phone numbers. One other thing that concerned us was the fact that there only seemed to be one entrance and exit to the property via the back door, and the main front door that led onto the road seemed to be locked with 3 or 4 locks none of which we seemed to have the key for. Is this ok from a fire safety point of view? Finally given what you`re paying for a weekend in the property a few small touches would make the difference, for example, a complimentary basket of logs for the woodburner rather than having to go out and buy them after a long journey. Overall positive, but a few small and relatively easy changes would make a difference, such as heat the property before guests arrive, complimentary logs, clear and accessible instructions on appliances and particularly the central heating, and clarification on the situation regarding the locked front door.

  • "Great place, only complaint was the state of the frying pan also could do with a non stick one , only 5 large mugs."

Also top floor bedroom facing the road when we stripped the bed very large brown stains on the duvet. Great break thank you.

  • "Unfortunately we found 2socks( hopefully clean) in one of the bedrooms on arrival."

We had some concerns about being unable to access the front door which surely was a means of escape in a fire there were no keys etc available. We also felt that the description of the surroundings of the cottage were misleading in that they didn't state that only 15feet away from the back door and window was a large building which blocked any view .

No dedicated bin provided outside though and not all beds were made or had suitable linen.Shame about the sewage smell coming into the ground floor of the property from the soil pipe.

  • "The house was absolutely perfect for our family of 8 adults and 2 dogs."

The rooms were beautifully decorated, with extra comfortable beds and a generous selection of pillows. We loved the little touches such as the industrial style light fixtures and quirky curtains! The kitchen was well equipped and there was lots of cupboard space for food. The living room was cosy and comfortable, and the fire was a welcome addition on a cold May night! The only thing we felt missing was another dining chair as we had to have one person sitting on a stool which was a bit tall for the table. The location of the property is stunning: right next to the lake and a short pleasant walk into Ambleside. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

  • "This is a lovely property in a great position within walking distance of the lake and pier where the cruises stop."

The property is spacious over 3 floors and is very comfortable. Very clean and the beds are a quality mattress but the memory foam pillows take some getting used to. Minor issues were the lack of an iron and ironing board, and the washer knocks heavily and needs some repair to the extent it would keep you awake in the night. We would recommend this property. However. The gravel parking space outside has, at some point, had discarded DIY materials carelessly left on the surface and we suffered a puncture on the day of departure which caused considerable stress having an elderly family member to care for. Thankfully the tyre was repairable but Sykes have been a little picky in my opinion and not agreed to reimburse the cost of the repair (a miserly £30) as I omitted to obtain a receipt whilst trying to juggle somewhere for the family to go as we had to be out of the property. A great property, and I hope they act on my advice of clearing the area of further sharp objects to prevent anyone else suffering the inconvenience. A tad aggrieved with the pettiness of Skykes.

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
