  • "Had the feeling of being in the middle of the countryside despite being 10 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside (15 mins on way back as it's uphill!"

    ), with great views from the apartment which was perfect for the two of us. The decor was new and the bed comfortable, underfloor heating easy to control, although not functioning in the bedroom - not a problem in the summer but it is linked to the giant towel rail in the bathroom, essential for drying towels and clothes - it still rains in the summer in the lake district! Apart from Wifi details there were no instructions for the apartment - our neighbours had trouble getting BBC channels - they seem to work only through the iplayer - we took our laptop to link to TV which cut out any issues. All in all, great place for us - loved the peace and the daily influx of our adopted sheep family who pottered around the garden (who needs a lawnmower) along with all of the rabbits

    The only downside was it was a nightmare hill to get back up if you wanted a walk into Ambleside.

  • "Having had an excellent cottage in Keswick with Sykes Cottages in August, unfortunately this was not up to scratch."

    The cottage was in a lovely situation and we very much enjoyed the days we had out in the surrounding area. However, the cottage had very minimal equipment, as mentioned in previous reviews, and there was no welcome pack giving useful details about Ambleside such as location of banks, supermarkets, other shops and restaurants etc. The main carpet in the lounge was stained and matted with dog hair. Luckily there was a hoover in the area outside our apartment, which we were told not to enter, and we were able to use this to clean the carpet. We think the owners should be more careful in making their property more welcoming.

We take on board your comments regarding kitchen equipment and the supply in the property has now been increased. there are some leaflets in the property about the area and Ambleside is only a 10 minute walk or 2 min drive away for shops, pubs and restaurants. We apologise if there was dog hair on the rug, as we do call or email all guests after their first night this could have been reported to us at the time and rectified. The hoover in the hallway is provided for the guests use and you do have access to the hallway. We hope these small issues would not deter you from returning to this lovely property in a fabulous location. Property Owner

  • "The apartment is situated up a very very steep hill, and it put us off staying there again."

    There was no vacuum cleaner, and having a dog, I like to vacuum every day. It quickly became messy. I rang Sykes but nothing came of it. The Internet was off for 3 days which was very inconvenient but Sykes eventually got that sorted. There were basic utensils missing such as scissors, salt and pepper, not even a pen or pencil in the place! Had to go and buy one.

  • "The property is in a great position."

    .wonderful views, in walking distance of Ambleside & few walks from door. Comfortable bed & newly refurbished kitchen. Lovely light property. However, considering it was self catering there were a few essential items missing in kitchen. eg...no ovenproof dish for oven or microwave! No jug or collander. Basic cleaning products would have been useful eg toilet cleaner (also no toilet roll!) Covid restrictions should not be an excuse . More information in Welcome folder would have been useful. Despite a few niggles..easily put right.. it is a great property.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force.
