  • "Enjoyed our stay at Jasmine Cottage."

Yes, the bathroom being downstairs is a bit of a trail through the night but we were aware of this when booking and the owners have placed nightlights to assist. We did turn off the bedroom nightlight as it lit everytime we moved in bed! The cottage overall was nice and cosy and loved the recliner chairs!

  • "Jasmine cottage is a lovely place to stay."

Cosy and warm. Dog friendly and only 20 yards from the Royal Oak which had excellent food and a good selection of ales and gins. (and a doggy menu) Appleby, 20 minute walk to the Centre, is a lovely friendly village where there is everything you need at local shops and a couple of other pubs. All in all we'd recommend a visit. We went to Penrith 30 minutes to look round and Pooley Bridge 25 minutes. Very clean cottage and village no litter to be seen. Pubs all welcomed our dog.

  • "Very clean, comfortable cottage, especially the reclining chairs in the living room."

Large kitchen with everything we needed. Both bedrooms are spacious with plenty of storage. Could have done with an additional toilet upstairs to save trekking up & down stairs overnight especially as the stairs are quite steep. Shower screen over bath could do with some adjustment as we had to mop the floor every time the shower was used. Would have preferred a garden at the rear of property. These things are all minor though & didn't spoil our time at this property. Our thanks to the owner for her hospitality. We would definitely consider a return visit.

  • "Jasmine Cottage is an absolute gem."

We had the most amazing week staying in Appleby. The cottage was spotlessly clean, the hosts were welcoming and the location is perfect. The cottage is well equipped with a comfortable bed and very comfortable reclining chairs in the lounge. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. All of the facilities we needed were within a short walking distance - several pubs, a small supermarket, fish and chip shop and a beautiful church to visit. It was out first time the the area and we packed so much on! The weather was absolutely wonderful and we made full use of the garden to eat out at breakfast and tea time. The area has so much to offer. Apart from Applebey itself we explored the local National Trust property at Acorn Bank which was well worth a visit. we also went further afield to beautiful Keswick for a boat trip trip of Derwent Water. We also went to Barnard Castle to visit the world class Bowes museum and took day trips to Penrith, Carlisle and Cockermouth. A highlight of the week was a trip over the Scottish border to Gretna Green and the opportunity to walk along a section of Hadrian's Wall. If you have booked Jasmine Cottage you have made an excellent choice. I thought it was excellent value for money and offered us everything we needed for a great holiday.

Only a short walk from the river and the Royal Oak. Excellent food at the pub so worth a visit. I would recommend to couples/small families. Owner lives next door but we didn’t need to contact her as we had everything we needed.

Bedrooms are both a good size with good storage facilities. Lounge is comfortable. Kitchen and bathroom are basic but have everything you need. Added bonus of a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer to deal with dirty walking gear! Great food available at the Royal Oak pub next door but one.

  • "A lovely warm and welcome place to stay in Appleby."

The accommodation is excellent and the facilities met all of our expectations. The owners are nearby and were available to answer any questions, within the Covid restrictions. We have already booked for next year, which says everything really.

  • "We enjoyed a very comfortable stay in Jasmine Cottage which is conveniently located for exploring the Eden Valley and northern Lake District."

The cottage was very well equipped - even allowing for items having been removed due to Covid - and also cosy, with the excellent and dog friendly Royal Oak pub just a few steps away. It was the perfect getaway for the current time and we would happily stay here again.

  • "The cottage was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities we needed, with good quality appliances."

The beds were very comfortable and the lounge has a leather settee and two leather electric recliners. There is a separate entrance to the utility room, which could be handy in wet weather. For information, the bathroom is downstairs and has a shower over the bath with great water pressure! We chatted with the owners "over the fence", as because of current restrictions we could not meet them. What a lovely week we had, even the weather was fabulous. The cottage itself is surrounded by a white fence - if your dog is good at jumping, I would say you need to keep it on a lead. A few tips for dog owners - the pub next door (The Royal Oak) does fantastic meals and is dog friendly, the young lady behind the bar on our visit was very friendly and helpful and brought our dog a bowl of fresh water. There is a lovely walk directly over the road from the cottage, past the monument, keep the church on your right, take the right fork in the lane and there is a small picnic area (and car park). You can go for a paddle in the river at Jubilee bridge, easy access for dogs to enter the water. If you go into town, there is a lovely walk along the river where you can sit (there was ample seating) and even have a little paddle in the water. Appleby is a great location for travelling - we would also recommend the Crown and Cushion for a tasty meal (also dog friendly) in Appleby - and Keswick is only 30 mins drive away - this is a busier town but you can walk down towards Derwent Water and there is a lovely park to walk through. We would love to come back and stay again

  • "Just returned from our holiday unfortunately due to a family emergency we had to return early."

When we arrived the cottage was very clean, due to contactless entry the owners were unable to show us round but that didn’t impact on us as everything was fine. They were not able to have an information brochure due to the coronavirus restrictions, they did leave some information on a sheet of paper which was helpful although details on disposal of rubbish would have been helpful as recycling is different in each area. We did not venture out much due to the terrible weather but in between showers we went down to the village which is a short walk away where there are shops, pubs and cafe. The beds were comfortable and plenty of clean towels. Overall this is a very nice cottage.

Even though it was a contactless book in, everything was as it should be. The owners are next door so we're on hand if we needed to ask anything and were only too happy to help. The cottage was lovely and clean and had everything that you would have at home. The week we had the weather was fantastic so we and our Dog Chester made full use of the lovely garden. The cottage is on the the edge of town which is perfect. We would often walk down to the river which was very close and walk into Appleby which is a lovely old town. The cottage is a perfect base for exploring The Lakes, Northumberland, Cumbria and Yorkshire. All are within easy reach. Lots to see and do in the Local area. There is a lovely pub just a few doors down. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful even though 2020 has been an extremely difficult year. Hope to come back again soon.

Pleasantly surprised to discover there was a tumble drier in the utility room and a hairdryer in the main bedroom. It would have been handier to have the freezer in the kitchen rather than the utility room but we coped . It would also have been good to have a couple of baking trays. Bed was comfy. The stairs are narrow and quite steep so could perhaps be a problem for some people. Ten minutes walk to the Co-op and a bit more to chip shop, bakery, butcher and eateries. The Royal Oak a few doors from the cottage was dog friendly and served decent, well priced food.

The cottage was had everything you needed to enjoy your stay nice and cosy and the owner did everything to help in settling in, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, condiments and a cake on arrival. The pub next door Is dog friendly and a good choice of menu, it’s sister pub in the town Crown & Cushion equalling was great. This was our first Sykes cottage holiday with our 6 month Labrador puppy and we all enjoyed our first time away. The cottage has its own enclosure so the dog can have a bit of freedom from time spent there Recommend a stay, as all was great for the week travelling out daily to the outer areas of the Lake District, Yorkshire National Park areas sightseeing

The cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly wish for - and more - far more than we have ever experienced before in self catering. Jasmine Cottage is in a very good location in Appleby, a one minute walk to the Royal Oak which is an excellent dog friendly pub with a wonderful menu (we found it difficult to keep away!) and a few minutes walk into the centre of Appleby with other cafes, pubs and shops. Very happy with standard and cleanliness of accommodation, well appointed and stylish furnishings, had all the kitchen equipment we could possibly need, though would have been useful if there were a couple more basics for cooking (I.e. oil, pepper and vinegar). Owner was concerned if we might find any issues as a previous reviewer reported the property was damp. We didn’t find any evidence of this and had no problems at all. About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. Visit Appleby in June and experience the colourful spectacle of the three hundred-year old Horse Fair. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
