The property

Situated on a hill, just a stone's throw from the castle entrance in Appleby-in-Westmorland, is Oak Cottage.

This holiday home is tucked away peacefully down a little ginnel off Boroughgate, with access to the shops, pubs and delicatessens nearby.

Step through the front door and kick off your muddy boots in the hallway, before entering this cosy cottage.

The reverse-level property is ideal for a couple looking to explore an interesting region of Cumbria.

The ground floor plays host to a spacious double bedroom, with a walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom.

Upstairs is an open-plan living room, making the most of the garden views, stretching over to the green fields beyond.

The kitchen is fully prepared, ready to assist with cooking preparations and the dining area is set for two.

A woodburning stove adds warmth to the sitting area, as you curl up with your loved one of an evening in front of the TV.

This cottage has its own off-road parking space and a lovely lawned garden to the rear, enjoying the sun for most of the day.

There is also a wood store for the fire and a utility housing a washing machine, tumble dryer and space to store your bikes securely.

Appleby is enveloped by the beautiful regions of the North Pennines, Lakeland Fells and the luscious Eden Valley.

This gives you wonderful access to walks, cycle routes and so much more amidst the natural wonders of north England.

You have some lovely amenities close by in the centre of the town, with many interesting, old buildings to explore.

Penrith is another bustling town, renowned for its abundant shops, pubs, hotels and restaurants.

For those of you who enjoy history, visit the castles of Penrith and Brougham, as well as Mayburgh Henge, an impressive, prehistoric stone monument and its neighbouring monument of King Arthur’s Round Table.

Further afield, you have the beautiful lakeside towns of Ambleside and Windermere, in Cumbria.

A quality break to enjoy the year-round.

About the location

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
