“A lovely location to get away from it all and relax.”

Kitchen well appointed with most things you would want - just some omissions like utensils for the BBQ. Bedrooms a good size and comfortable but in the heat it would have been good if fans has been provided in each room - we had to buy some which was a challenge during the heatwave. It gets exceptionally dark, but rechargeable light, nightlights and torches are provided. Bathrooms clean and well appointed. Floor downstairs is a little uneven if you have people in your party with poor balance, but it’s a nice layout with a large table in the kitchen (with Aga and wine cooler) and plenty of seating in the lounge. Would have benefitted from a DVD player and small library of films, similar for a moderate collection of books. Internet speed was very very poor and as a result my son didn’t stay for the holiday and returned home. He was working on his dissertation for his Masters. A great location to get away from the world and a small private garden as well. Parking for two cars easily, more if you don’t mind playing car jenga.

About the property

Lying at the foot of the Howgill fells, amidst the unspoilt landscape of Ravenstonedale village is Garden Cottage, a striking stone-built cottage.

This exceptional holiday accommodation offers a wonderful place for groups of up to seven people to call home as they enjoy this part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Enter inside to find the spacious kitchen/diner, where characterful original beams frame the room and an impressive range cooker takes centre stage before a range of quality appliances that await the chef of the group.

At the end of a bracing day exploring the surrounding fells, relax and unwind into your evening within the sitting room, where the woodburning stove set within the original inglenook reveal awaits.

Light up the fire to allow a gentle warmth the fill the space, as you curl up on the sumptuous sofa to delve into a good book or catch up on the latest box set on the TV.

Completing the ground floor is an elegantly presented twin bedroom, complete with its own en-suite shower room, ideal for those who find stairs a little challenging.

Take the stairs to the first floor landing that grants access to a further two bedrooms, the second suite notable for its high vaulted ceilings with striking beams, plush double bed, single bed and with an en-suite shower room and built in wardrobe.

The third and master bedroom boasts a sumptuous kingsize bed, an inviting sofa, wardrobe storage and an elegant freestanding bath.

The exterior at Garden Cottage has been designed as an extension of the house itself, with a beautiful lawn area to allow younger guests of the group to safely play, as you enjoy a spot of alfresco dining upon the seating area.

When you fancy a night off the cooking however, take a short stroll to Ravenstonedale village to find award winning food at the Black Swan Hotel or proper pub food at the welcoming riverside Kings Head hotel.

Further afield is the Fat Lamb Country Inn, which has a superb dining menu.

Casual walkers will find many interesting walks from the door step.

Avid ramblers will be delighted by the array of trials and routes that are awaiting them within the national park, where you can look forward to the likes of Cautley Spout, Wild Boar Fell, Nine Standards Rigg, Great Shunner Fell and lots more!

Situated in Ravenstonedale is a 9/18 hole golf course and tennis court which both operate an honesty box plus a children play area all of which are open to visitors.

Other local attractions includes a visit to the Smardale Gill Viaduct, the National Trust property of Keld Chapel and exploring the beautiful Stenkrith Park.

From here, you could also venture in the Lake District National Park to pay a visit to Kendal and the Lakeland Maze Farm Park, before heading to Windermere to find the home of The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and Lake Windermere, England's largest lake.

With all of this and much more to explore, bring your loved ones to Garden Cottage for a memorable getaway to Cumbria.
