“Extremely well equipped, clean and comfortable cottage.”

We had travelled to Cumbria for a family get together and the cottage made for an excellent base close to family and to explore the surroundings. The owner was very knowledgeable and contacted us before our stay with ideas for places to go and things to do. There was also a very large basket of leaflets and maps to look at. There were very thoughtful touches in the cottage when we arrived.

Dear Hilary, many thanks for your lovely feedback. We are delighted that you and your family enjoyed the cottage and had a lovely holiday at Blake Fell Cottage. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Very best wishes - Sykes owner relations

The property

Blake Fell Cottage is around 1.5 miles outside of the Lake District National Park with the fells starting 3 miles east of the village, being a stone's throw from Ennerdale Water.

This whitewashed mid-terrace cottage welcomes families and friends to a lovely region of Cumbria, with access to the beautiful St Bees Head Heritage Coast and the charming market town of Cockermouth.

The cottage dates back to the 19th century and was one of many such terraced cottages in the district built to house the influx of miners following the discovery of coal, iron ore, lime and sandstone in the area.

Styled to a good standard of quality throughout, the interior plays host to a cosy sitting room, where you can relax with your loved ones by the warmth of the woodburning stove, which is sited within the original fireplace.

It has been thoughtfully put together with delightful cushions, curtains and other homely comforts.

The kitchen is to the rear of the property, with a dining area for you to enjoy a well-deserved evening meal.

Stay late into the evening for cosy chats over a bottle of wine and plan events for the day ahead.

Follow the staircase up to the double bedrooms, where you have a king-size double overlooking the front towards the fells and a double to the rear with a wrought iron bed frame.

The ground floor family bathroom boasts a bath tub with a shower over, tiled for a good finish.

To the exterior is a sunny garden with a patio area bordered by mature shrubs.

This rural village offers peaceful countryside all around, with access to the fells and lovely walking around the lake at Ennerdale Water, Loweswater, Crummock and Buttermere all being close at hand, with easy access to the Eskdale Valley and Wastwater to the south.

The nearest amenities are at the village of Arlecdon, including a friendly pub serving food, a small shop and Post Office.

There are plenty of opportunities for golfing, pony trekking and fishing all being available locally.

Further afield is the popular Lake District town of Keswick, with shops, pubs, parks, a cinema and theatre.

Enjoy a delightful break with your loved ones in a stunning part of Cumbria.

About the location

ENNERDALE

Whitehaven 8 miles; Keswick 22 miles.

The tiny village of Ennerdale rests among the rolling hills and small farms of pretty Cumbrian countryside, on the edge of the Lake District National Park, just a few miles from the coast. The River Ehen runs through the village, with a stone bridge dividing Ennerdale into two halves. On the northern side are the village school and a pub, whilst the southern side is home to the parish church and a second pub. There are lovely footpaths trailing through the surrounding countryside, across fields and fells of the wild Ennerdale Valley and there are great opportunities for mountain biking, walking and horse riding. This area is rich in flora and fauna and there is also an outdoor pursuits centre at the top of the valley, available if you book in advance. Ambleside, Keswick and Windermere are all easily reached, whilst the many beautiful lakes of this stunning location can also be enjoyed.
