  • "Unfortunately mugs not clean but resolved by me washing."

Cottage warm and cosy. We didn’t need the coal provided in the outside store all lined up with our name on it (cute). The pint of milk in fridge nice touch but no tea/coffee welcome tray. Cottage needs an outside light to entrance as completely unlit area. Access to cottage is through a squeeze stile, so keep to smaller suitcases. Light over bath is at head height when you stand up. The bedroom wall light is at eye level and needs moving. We had three knocks thankfully no cuts. Bed was very comfy. Lovely village with great pubs and food. The Bake Well bakery/coffee shop is a must visit

Well equipped and modern interior, without losing its character. Comfortable lounge area, nice bedroom and good bathroom. Sunny aspect and brilliant view from the lawn in front of the property. The fact that this is not a private garden didn't detract from our enjoyment; actually we had some pleasant chats with passers by. Car parking at the neighbouring churchyard was fine, no problems.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It really means a lot. Yes we love nothing more than enjoying the view at the front of the cottage and having a chat with the walkers passing by. Property Owner

We have stayed in this cottage a few times and it never disappoints. It has everything you need and more. The only downfall from me would be to have a mop so we could clean the floor at the entrance, especially after coming back from a walk and having muddy boots but that’s my personal opinion. We will definitely be back!

This was our second stay and we really liked the refurb of what was already a beautiful cottage. The location is magical: so much history in the cottage, the churchyard and Askrigg, and with stunning views across Wensleydale to Addlebrough. Swifts were great entertainment in the evenings, and we enjoyed watching the swallows feed their young in the nest in the church. Great walks to be done from the front door and lovely food and hospitality at local pubs/restaurants. Should probably stop advertising it to you all!

This also turned out to be the wettest week of the year so far (beyond anyone’s control) We always found a parking space outside the Church gates and yes it is a bit of a hike through the church yard with your luggage but well worth it. Have walked much further in some Hotels or Airports. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, all COVID measures taken and well equipped. There are an enormous amount if DVD,s to watch and the Broadband connection is excellent. The bedding and towels provided we’re of excellent quality. The only slight downside to the cottage was it was very cold at times as only two radiator heaters and fan heater in bathroom. You can light a coal fire but as we had done this for over 40 years we decided not to do so. The weather was unseasonably cold during our stay. This is an excellent base for touring The Dales and the scenery is out of this world. Askrigg is a beautiful unspoilt village and has pubs a shop and a fresh takeaway bakery. A very enjoyable stay

  • "There are three items about this cottage that should be made explicit in the published details, as these surprised us when we encountered them: 1."

It is essential to be able to park close to the church to gain access to the cottage, but in the week that we were there, there were times when there weren't any parking spaces available. This would be extremely awkward for anyone who was elderly or disabled. 2. Everything that has to be transported from the parked car to the cottage has to be carried down the path across the churchyard, at the end of which is a very narrow gap in the stone wall which has to be negotiated. This would be impossible for most people with physical disabilities. 3. The narrow grassed area outside the front door of the cottage is not just a 'shared' area, it's actually a public right of way, which is used regularly by walkers who pass by immediately by the front door. This can make it difficult to enjoy sitting outside in this area if the weather is fine and it is restrictive if you have a dog which you want to be outside with you.

And village store and deli).Only downside! But didn't spoil for us, is the walk from church to tiny gap to cottage with all shopping/belongings and the drop down the other side.We visited many places and really enjoyed the break away with the sleet and snow. Some places couldnt get because of the terrible floods.Nearest big shopping store is Leyburn.Nice and quiet to recharge and enjoy the scenery! • "Lovely cottage in a wonderful location ideal for two people."

Great views. This is a great walking area direct from cottage. If you are disabled physically you may have issues entering property. You walk through the grave yard and then go through a resticted access to area where cottage is if you have cases these will need to be lifted over the wall and you will need to squeeze through the gap. This will not affect the majority of people but may affect the elderly or some one with walking issues. There is an access at rear of property but difficult to park there and not a lot easier. Loved area, may well go back to Lavender Cottage but would also look at other cottages in area of which there are an abundance. May also benefit from better heating if you are going there in the winter. it does have a coal fire which if lit would overcome the issues

The village is lovely 3 good pubs and a great tea room, the surrounding area had great walks not as brutal as those in the Lake District..... Which was better for our lazy dog and my knees.... The cottage is located at the end of a church yard with no designated parking but there was plenty of space in the village and a honesty box. The interior was clean and modern with a beautiful fireplace and a comfortable layout for 2 people..... The only drawbacks were lack of shower.... Although a great long, deep bath is present and the poor Internet..... Which whilst we were on holiday had a few work related emails which we had to use Wi-Fi at a local hostelry to complete (this increased my alcohol consumption)..... The owner texted us to see how we were settling in which was a lovely touch..... I look forward to visiting lavender cottage again for a chilled switched off time in the future.

We had no problems with people passing along the footpath outside the house at all. You can easily access some beautiful meadows (in May-June) around the back of the property and long walks into the Dales. It is an incredible place. Also had a great pub, the Crown, deli, general store and tea shop. Our only criticism was that the bare stone floor downstairs would have been so much nicer with a rug. We were lucky while we were there as the weather was warm, but if it was cold it would have been very chilly on the feet. The open fire was lovely, there was no coal left for us but we did find some.
