  • "A cracking holiday at Orcaber as always."

We have been several times and stopped in different cottages on site. It never disappoints. The cottage is clean, a great standard, spacious, enclosed garden which is ace for dogs. We got to see the horses every morning, the views are amazing. We come back every year just because its a home away from home. Upstairs theres the main master and en suite, then the other two rooms have a bathroom to share so its ideal. Neil and Gaynor and the staff are always lovely, friendly and hard working. I always get to the end of the week and don't want to leave.

This property works on so many levels. There is an enclosed garden for the dogs there is an exercise area for them too. The cottage has stone floors so after dog paws are wiped no worry about carpet. For the humans the cottage is high spec toilet down stairs and comfortable beds one en-suite upstairs the other has a bath for a soak after those long walks. There was also a pint of milk in the fridge. It was a great place to meet up with our friends as we live in different areas of the country now.

  • "As I wrote in the visitors’ book, the accommodation was perfect for our group: two couples, each with a dog."

Facilities and location were brilliant and the property is finished to a high standard. There were only a couple of maintenance issues, the main concern being an extra stone step at the bottom of the wooden staircase, which was sometimes hard to see and caught out three of the four adults- luckily with no serious injury- and really needs highlighting in some way.

The views in this area are stunning and pastoral with a lot of green in eyes. The cottage was very convenient, fully equipped and nicely decorated. It was very clean and well maintained. The beds, linens and towels were comfortable and pampering. The welcome fresh flowers on the kitchen table made us very happy. The kitchen was well equipped with all what you’ll need: induction stove, freezer, refrigerator and a lot of lovely dishes. Shower rooms were fully equipped as well and comfortable. There were a lot of box games and puzzles which made our children happy. The farm environment is well maintained and it was very nice sitting outside in the fresh air. Close to the main road but far enough away so as not to have any traffic noise. Beautiful scenery on the doorstep.. Finished to a high standard and very warm and cosy. My only comment ( in no way a criticism) is that it could do with a little more cutlery which would save washing what is there between courses and also a few more side plates. Hooks on the back of doors would be great and a bedside table and lamp in the small bedroom would be a useful addition. We had a lovely time (my third visit) and I would thoroughly recommend this property. 11/10.The owners are very welcoming.

The cottage is finished to a very high standard. It’s also in a very good location for visiting the Dales and the Lakes I think I mentioned this last year in my feedback, I’m not sure, but a small bedside table and a lamp would be useful in the single room. Also more cutlery and side plates. We had to wash up after each meal to have enough for the next one. Not exactly a hardship I know, but when on holiday one doesn’t want to do more Washingup than is absolutely necessary!

The actual site is a working farm which is fascinating to watch: horses being prepared; plus chickens and ducks freely roaming around. Our Family of five went for regular walks with our dog Tommy who loved the clean stream at the bottom of the farm and always greeted (nose to nose) the few sheep in the horse track enclosure. We loved it so much that we are already planning to return. Neil and Gaynor who run the farm are extremely hardworking, but always make the time to have a cheerful chat and willing to help. James, one of the farm employees, is a wonderful gentleman to engage conversation with. Basically, a very friendly family farm. 5 stars!!

  • "We had a great stay at Orcaber Farm."

The barn is huge, very well-equipped and really comfortable - it felt like a 4-5 star standard of hotel but within the comforts of a self-catering cottage. The barn was spotlessly clean on our arrival and the owners were friendly and helpful and non-intrusive throughout our stay. We especially liked the Christmas tree in the living room, which made our December stay feel even more festive! The setting of the barn being on a working farm did mean that at times it was quite noisy, particularly during some weekday mornings. It was also quite distracting for our dog, especially with the small chickens that were able to get through the rear garden fence at times! While the garden is secure for dogs overall, this perhaps could be addressed for future stays. Other than that we cannot fault the place and hope to visit again soon. The nearby area around Settle etc is really great to explore too, so we'd love to come back during the spring or summer to be able to see more of it in better weather.

I was disappointed however with the service from Sykes. We had to rebook this because of Covid restrictions earlier in the year and ended up paying considerably more as a result. • "We have recently returned from a wonderful week at Orcaber Barn."

We have stayed at lots of different places in the dales and the moors and it has become a bit of a tradition to go in January but this place is probably the best we have stayed in. The accommodation is part of the original farm buildings and the farm is still working so we saw lots of sheep, horses and chickens from the barn, something our 3 year old loved! The downstairs is huge! There is an open plan kitchen and diner with a downstairs loo. Access to the large secure garden and a large living room with log burner and reclining furniture that is very comfortable. The whole downstairs has underfloor heating too, which makes it very cosy. Oh and a massive tv! Upstairs is carpeted which was nice. To the right of the landing is a bedroom with en suite shower and toilet etc. The bed is at least a super king and is very comfy. To the left of the landing is a door which leads to a corridor. Off that corridor is a family bathroom with bath and over shower. Opposite this is a single room with a comfy bed and at the end of the corridor is another large room with a huge, comfy bed, again it was at least a super king. We loved this as we came with another couple so they could have their own room and bathroom. Our little girl loved having her own little room, our baby could sleep in our room In the cot, we had our own bathroom and we could close our ‘wing’ off so we didnt disturb too much. The layout upstairs is great! The quality of the finish in the rooms, the carpets, the soft furnishings and the furniture is lovely. Both main rooms have huge smart tvs and plenty of storage space for clothes etc. The fire was very well stocked with logs and kindling when we arrived but we did buy some more from the owners, although we didnt use it all. The internet was quick and reliable and the heating wasnt set to timers, as we have found in other places we have stayed. We had full control so it never felt cold. Although there are a couple of other cottages nearby, it still felt remote and we didnt see or hear from anybody else. The kitchen had everything, it really was a home from home. Dishwasher, lots of pots, pans, utensils and even dog towels in the downstairs loo for muddy walks in the dog field! The owners have thought of absolutely everything and nothing was too much trouble when we asked. The local area is great, there is plenty to see and do nearby. We visited Malham a couple of times, Ingleton waterfalls trail, Feizor and the cheese and wine shop just up the road is amazing, the cafe was fantastic for lunch! There is lots of good walking and mountain biking too. Thanks for a great holiday, we will be back! Danny, Laura, Gracie, George & Bo

The barn is handy for Settle and only a moderate drive to Skipton. The rooms are large and very well furnished with quality furniture and fittings, makes a refreshing change from a lot of places which appear to furnish their holiday homes with cast offs from their own properties. The bedrooms are very comfortable again with quality furnishings and heated by a separate thermostat which was very useful as downstairs was very warm and the bedrooms could be maintained at a cooler temperature. There was a contained grassed area leading from the rear door which was a secure area for the dog to wander round, keeping an eye on the ducks and hens that wandered the farm. There is also a dedicated dog walk which was very useful for the morning walk and reasonably secure to let the dog off the lead. Lastly the Barn is on a working farm so although in a lovely quite spot there is the usual noises you would expect from a working farm

The property is superb, very well furnished, comfortable, spacious and relaxing and we would definitely like to return again. The pint of milk in the fridge was a really nice touch and the dog exercise area was great for some early morning exercise before heading out for the day. The water pressure was on the weak side which meant the shower in particular was not very powerful, but this did not spoil our stay. Being on a working farm it was great to be woken by the sounds of horses braying and chickens clucking and it just enhanced the laid back feel we experienced. It is ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and only a short distance from all the necessary amenities in Settle. There is also a great pub in Austwick only a mile away with excellent food and drink. The one thing that did disappoint slightly, was to be told on arrival that our dog was to be restricted to the downstairs area of the property. Whilst we were happy to accept this, I think that this should be made clear on the website as it is a material consideration when booking.

The farmhouse is very comfortable. We went in December to meet friends and found it really cosy due to the log burner and underfloor heating. We were the first guests after the farmhouse was finished and it is well equipped with just about everything you could need including fluffy towels, fluffy duvets and a full tange of kitchen appliances so you can cook if you choose not to eat out at one of the many local hostelries serving excellent food. The farmhouse is located in a cobbled courtyard so no muddy boots but there is a stable and working farm around the back if you want to say hello to the horses and livestock. Dogs are made welcome and there is an enclosed area to exercise your dog(s) safely. Highly recommended and a little gem.
