Bishop Fell is a home from home with top rate decor and appliances. Jane was very friendly and genuinely interested in how your holiday went, Jane also accommodated us with an extra early check in. The welcome pack and flowers were a lovely thought. Please take bad reviews with a pinch of salt, we had no issues whatsoever apart from an over sensitive heat alarm in the kitchen which went off a couple of times when using the oven and grill.

  • "Upon arrival we were welcomed at the property by the homeowner, Jane."

Myself and party were talked through the basics of how to operate the kitchen appliances, heating etc. A general pleasant chat. There were seven of us. Firstly, May I say the property is gorgeous, fitted out to a high standard, beautiful furnishings and fabulous layout with the open plan kitchen/ lounge. There is a separate lounge, we called it the snug, on the first floor, with tv. Great chill out zone. Although not exactly in the centre of local amenities, it was perfect for our group. A short drive to the usual places, Grasmere and Bowness on Windermere. There is plenty of information, leaflets, etc on the hallway table for anyone not familiar with the Lake District. In truth I cannot fault the accommodation, we had a fabulous weekend made better by the luxurious surroundings. The garden whilst on a tiered design, again is great with plenty of seating on all tiers. With the perfect weather we endured it was lovely relaxing , enjoying a glass or two of wine. Jane, the homeowner, lives close by which personally I found a bonus and definitely not intrusive. The personal touches and gifts Jane brought us, again are examples of going that little bit further. (I won’t spoil the surprise) All in all I would give this property five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely no negative feedback whatsoever.. Thank you Jane, we had a wonderful time in your beautiful home.

Hi Jennifer, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a rewarding review, it was lovely meeting you all and having a chat. So pleased you thoroughly enjoyed the property and had a fab time. You were so lucky with the weather, nearly like early summer in November! I look forward to welcoming you back again. If you do have to stay in because of weather ( we had one day of very heavy rain) it is actually a bonus as you are in such a lovely home Jane who owns the property is there to welcome you, and as she lives so close you have a much more personal experience . • "We had a great stay at Bishop Fell."

It is in a good location relative to the sights and attractions of the Lake District, and the nearest supermarkets are a relatively short drive away. The house itself was decorated to a high standard and had all of the amenities that we needed (including a cot and highchair for our youngest son). The only slight problem we found (and this is a personal preference) is that the bed in the master room was a little on the firm side. Aside from this, we found the house very comfortable.

  • "On arrival we received a warm welcome from Jane, the owner of Bishop Fell."

The house is beautifully presented and very well equipped with quality kitchenware and furnishings throughout the house. The layout of the house is great with plenty of space for our 3 families. The house is very cozy and is spotlessly clean throughout. The bathrooms and en-suite are exceptional and of a very high spec. The garden is on 3 levels and cleverly designed with seating on each level and we enjoyed eating outside despite it being October! Jane has even provided blankets to use outside! A picnic set of plastic plates/cups/glasses would be a great addition for families eating in the garden - especially for children. Next to the house is a small well equipped park which our grandchildren (6 & 9 yrs) enjoyed several times a day. It is a real bonus as the children can easily be supervised from the house. The property is in a lovey village and a great location for exploring the Lake District. The many walks from the house are enhanced by the option of visiting Cafe Ambio en route! We would thoroughly recommend this property. Jane lives nearby and although we didn’t need to, we felt confident that she would respond promptly to any issues arising during our stay. We appreciated the opportunity to talk personally again with Jane on the morning of our departure.

  • "Absolutely wonderful accommodation, a real home from home with top of the range kitchen equipment."

We were in the master bedroom, with the wonderful en-suite, everyone had their own bathroom, as we only used 3 bedrooms. We enjoyed that two bedrooms had a sitting area, allowing us to relax with privacy when wanted. The garden is cleverly designed, with seats on each tier, which we enjoyed when the weather allowed. The drawbacks for me were: 1) no key-safe, despite making a firm arrival time of 4.30, confirming this by text at 4pm, texting when we pulled onto the drive at 4.23, we had to wait until 4.45 for Jane to let us in. We had a similar wait on the day of departure. I book cottages 4 or 5 times a year and have never had to wait to check in or out. 2) There was no fuel for the log burner (Sykes state it is supplied). Jane's initial response was that we wouldn't need it, as it is a warm cottage and people generally don't know how to use it. I only book cottages with log burners, we can't have one at home, so it is an important part of our holiday. To be fair, Jane put this right the following day and we then enjoyed a fire each evening. 3) There was no visitor's book, this is a first for me and a real shame, as I like to read what previous visitors have done, they can be informative. 4) Although the kitchenware is impressive, there were a couple of chipped plates, bowl and a cracked glass, which I flagged up as I didn't want to be charged for them. Overall, I would highly recommend this cottage. The owner is lovely, I just think the checking in and out experience needs to be modernised.

Thank you karen for your lovely review, and so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Regarding meeting you at the house at 4.30, many apologies, it was unfortunate that the guests landed at the guest house just before I left to check you in, so i quickly checked them in before coming up. I'm really sorry it worked out that way. I do like to meet my guests and not just have a key in a box, i like to welcome them in and tell them about the house and what's in the area for them, pointing out the literature i have. Guest book is now sorted, thank you for mentioning it. Regarding the wood, , i think this has been a miss understanding, it’s the central heating and electric which is all inc. however, i do provide a generous amount of logs and kindling and fire lighters but on this occasion I was only able to get it the day after arrival as i unexpectedly had to look after my grandchildren and my husband way, I’m really sorry! • "A beautiful property in a fantastic location."

The property was perfect for our family stay, plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 children. The property is very modern and finished to a high standard. The bathrooms are particularly of a high standard and very clean too. We particularly liked the extra sitting room upstairs which gave us all extra space and a place for the kids to play. The gardens are also amazing with far reaching views over the hills, however it is deceptively steep so young children need to be supervised. The park to the side of the property also helped to keep the kids entertained. The location was perfect for us, 20 minute drive to Bowness, close to the zoo, and we took the steam train from Haverthwaite to Windermere where there is an aquarium and ferry which goes from Lakeside to Bowness and then to Ambleside. I would definitely recommend the property to anybody looking for a comfortable stay in a very good location.

  • "The house and gardens were very comfortable and well-equipped."

The house is also close to Booths supermarket and was easy to find. The driveway is also more than spacious enough for 4 large cars. We had glorious weather, so really appreciated the gardens and the high quality seating options outside, as well as the stunning views. The bathrooms were particularly lovely and very luxurious. There is a fire pit outside which we also used most nights which was a lovely touch. I would mention that the kitchen is a little small and difficult to navigate for lots of adults (there were 7 of us), although the owner had equipped the kitchen with lovely Le Creuset crockery and cookware and we had everything we needed in there. The main reason I didnt give it 5* was that we had quite a lot of contact from the owner, who wanted to meet us at the property as there was no key box (although there was one advertised on Sykes), and then tried to arrange to meet us again the next morning, and tried to arrange to come and cut the grass and water the plants throughout the week whilst we were there, as well as wanting to meet us on departure rather than allowing us to post the keys through the letterbox. Although we understand that some owners want to meet the guests upon arrival, and the owner was friendly, we found the constant requests to come round during our stay quite intrusive and had not experienced that in another Lake District property before.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to post this great review and pleased you enjoyed your stay. I’m really sorry about the key situation. Sykes had posted about a key safe and I wasn’t aware of this. I do like to meet you on arrival to go through things, again when people check out I like to come and check you have enjoyed your stay. I have been running a guest house for 30 years and always want to make sure my visitors have a great holiday. We cut the grass when you were out which hadn’t been possible to do on the change over day and due to the extreme and unprecedented temperatures during this week it was vital the plants were watered which I courteously came and asked if I could water them ( this was the only time I knocked on the door during your weeks stay) and came back when you were all out to do so, only once and really they should have been done every other day through that heat. As the house is of a very high standard I like to maintain the garden to a high standard, I only want to keep the outdoor space beautiful for you. Best wishes Jane Property Owner
