  • "Really enjoyed our stay at Grimbles."

It's a beautiful cottage with everything you could want provided. Lots of personal little touches for a homely feel. Loved the little house shaped lamp which gave off a lovely glow in the evening. The conservatory and outside space were a lovely addition. Unfortunately we couldn't use the conservatory during our stay because the weather was so hot! We cannot recommend Grimbles highly enough.

Shower head, hose and corner of shower cubicle needed good clean and nowhere to put toothbrushes and shwer gel in shower . NO info. on recycling not enough bins.

Thank you for your feedback. The mattress topper is to allow flexibility for guests as we realise some people prefer a firmer mattress, while others prefer a softer mattress and it is impossible to cater for everyone's individual mattress preference. It is nothing to do with the mattress not being up to scratch and we have had many guests say how comfy the beds are, as can be seen in previous feedback, so we are sorry to hear you did not feel you could use the double bed. We provide information on recycling and waste in the welcome email we send out and also in the information folder in the property explaining that there is no need to separate waste for recycling as it is a mixed waste collection and the waste management company separates it into recycling at their end. We are sorry you did not see this and will make sure the information is displayed more prominently for future guests. Our cleaner usually does a wonderful job and has a high sense of pride in her cleaning standard and quality and many guests have commented on how spotlessly clean and tidy they found the property, so we are sorry to hear on this occasion you found the shower was not clean enough and we will highlight this to her. We appreciate all feedback. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely four night stay at the Grimbles."

For one of us it was our first visit to the lakes and the cottage was the perfect welcome experience for anyone coming to the lakes. We came as a couple of two, but it had plenty of space for four. Everything was very tidy and you could see it has very recently been renovated. It was brilliantly kitted out for everything we needed, including cooking & laundry facilities. And the nice touch of automated heating that meant we always got home after our walks to a cosy cottage. We will be looking to come back again and bring along some friends to join us. Thank you so much for an excellent stay.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay at The Grimbles with our two young children."

It was very clean and enough room for us all to stay comfortably throughout a very stormy few days! The bedrooms were very cosy and the fire was a welcome addition after battling the weather. The host added everything you need, milk, tea, coffee, cleaning items and a useful welcome pack - even Kendal mint cake! Plenty of games helped too : ) Due to the weather we can recommend the Lakeside Motor Museum, Beatrix Potter experience, the lovely local Steam Train, Aquarium at the end of the train line and South Lakes Zoo. All within a short drive from the house. Of course this is on top of the beautiful Lakes on your doorstep. Don't be put off by the A road at the back of estate, can't really hear it in the house. Would recommend!

  • "The owners emailed me before my arrival to explain about a couple of stains on the settee."

They assured me that it had been cleaned thoroughly but unfortunately the stain was still visible. The stain really wasn't that noticeable and it certainly wasn't a problem for us, but it was reassuring that the owners had the matter in hand. Sykes cottages were also really informative. I didn't have to go looking for any information about the property once I had booked. All the information I needed and more besides was sent within plenty of time. I've used Sykes cottages in the past and they are my first choice for holiday accommodation.

In a good location for exploring. Very clean. Bed was comfy, sofa was Ok. The signal on the TV upstairs in second bedroom with twin beds kept going on and off.. Needs lookin at. Disappointed we had to replace fire wood, kindling etc. I think this should be included, Would have been a nice touch or a card and bottle of wine or welcome pack. Apart from that everything was fine.

  • "We liked the cottage and felt it was comfortable and well equipped."

The cottage is apparently professionally cleaned before you come but we found a disposable face mask behind one of the sofa cushions, which we had to throw away and some of the covers were stained. Also on the final morning the heating was set to come on at 25+ degrees and it was not possible to turn this down which was incredibly uncomfortable.

Thanks for your feedback and for highlighting the issue with the cleaning. We will address this. Regarding the stains on the sofa, unfortunately, 2 weeks before your arrival, we had some guests who did not respect the property and left the sofa stained. Although it has been cleaned thoroughly, some of the stains will not come out. We have ordered some new sofas and these will arrive in a few weeks. However, with the issue regarding the heating system, it seems that yourself or one of your guests accidentally switched our Nest heating system into manual control the evening before you left when adjusting the temperature. This would have resulted in the system continuing to heat the house throughout the night until manual mode is turned off. So the heating will have carried on heating throughout the night and morning which is why you would have found it incredibly uncomfortable in the morning. When our cleaners arrived to clean it, it had reached 28 degrees and they hurriedly turned manual mode off and informed us what had happened. Instructions on adjusting the heating temperature if needed are in the property and involve turning the Nest dial to the left or right. We would certainly not set the heating to come on at 25 degrees in the morning! Property Owner

We were also close to Grange Over Sands, a pretty sea side town. The house itself was bigger than we expected with good sized rooms and well equipped kitchen. The time we were there, we had some very cold weather with penetrating frosts, but the cottage was lovely and warm and we didn’t feel the need to use the wood burner. The owners sent a “welcome email” beforehand with contact details and were friendly and helpful which we appreciated. Amazingly for the end of November, we had some excellent weather and enjoyed walking in brilliant sunshine with wonderful views in the mountains and the lakes. The colours were phenomenal. We will certainly look at using this cottage again.

  • "The cottage was quite central for interesting things to see."

The only negative comment would be that there were too many light bulbs in the property needing replaced especially for anyone in the party with impaired vision and guests unable to undertake the task. However, we enjoyed our stay and we were quite comfortable.

  • "Absolutely loved this little house."

A real home from home. The owners have really put thought into making it an easy and enjoyable stay for guests to their house. Beautifully furnished, and housed everything we needed for our stay, right down to games, which we enjoyed playing along with the ones we took ourselves. The neighbours are also very friendly and were very happy to help and give advice on local amenities. The location is a great spot for exploring much of the beautiful lake district. We did day trips to everywhere from Keswick, through to Wast Water, all within about 1hr 15mins drive. Locally there are some great things to do also. Fell Foot Park is a must visit, where you can hire kayaks/paddle boards, or just take a dip in the stunning Lake Windermere. We also had a great time at the Lakeland Motor Museum (walking distance) which we were excited to watch the arrival of some very impressive cars as it was a car club meetup day (Saturday). The Cliffhanger Rooms (also walking distance) was a fab finale to our holiday and we were pleased to make it onto the weekly and monthly leaderboard with our escape time from the bank heist. We shall definitely be returning to experience the Pirate or Pharoah rooms next time :) I would happily stay here again and shall be recommending to friends and family.
