The tin opener was next to useless Apart from the above the property really suited us, we had a smashing time and we really appreciated how quickly the light in the kitchen was sorted Thank you

  • "Could you tell me when Sykes last visited this property for yous to claim it is a 4 star property."

Out of coutesy i emailed the landlord before I replied to your request for a review. My contact number is This is the Email i have sent to the landlord 5 days ago without response. Arriving at the cottage we came into a lovely spacious and comfortable first floor . The small lobby had a dog bowl and towels that was very pleasing for our dog Poppy. The kitchen was spotless with all the updated mod cons anyone could wish for. A bottle of red wine from the owners was a lovely touch. A nice dining table to eat from was also amust. Entering the spacious spottless sitting room found a very comfortable area where you could sit and relax with TV and internet connection which was excellent. However it goes very quickly downhill when going downstairs to the Bedrooms and Bathrooms. Your senses were blasted by lots of plug in airfreshners, reed defusers and random smellies and a plethara of disposable moisture de humiders. Unfortunitly this could not come close to masking the smell of damp. Undetered we ventured downstairs to find nice beds and bedrooms and well appointed spotless bathrooms and shower. Together with lovely clean fresh towels. Trying not to let the smell of damp spoil things we went for a walk and a bite to eat which was more than pleasant. The next morning found the sheets feeling dampish and the overwheming stench of damp. After 2 days our clothes in the wardrobes and the drawers smelt damp and mouldy thus we brought our clothes upstairs and put them all on the kitchen table. We tried another night in bed but the smell of damp became too overwhelming. We managed another night on the sofa but we had enough on the Tuesday morning and we returned home instead of coming home on the Friday which we had paid for.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are very pleased that you found the cottage welcoming and well appointed. The plug in air fresheners can be a little strong but it is very easy to turn them down or unplug them. We do have a few small dehumidifiers as guests do not always open windows or use the bathroom fans effectively. Bedding and towels are changed after every guest stay and are therefore changed weekly. If ever there is a problem guests are encouraged to contact Sykes immediately , who will then do everything possible to remedy the situation. I'm sorry that this wasn't done so that you may have been able to enjoy the remainder of your holiday. Property Owner

  • "Very disappointed."

Upstairs OK. Downstairs bedrooms etc drainy smell constantly. Unable to use drawers due to fusty damp smell. Air fresheners plugged in totally overpowering. Sykes should be checking these properties as the owner referred to earlier complaints in some paperwork. Also tv sound really poor.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you felt there were issues. We take all reviews seriously so we immediately visited the cottage ourselves to check on the situation. I am happy to confirm that there was no drainy smell at all and the drawers only smelt faintly of wood. The plug in air freshener at the bottom of the stairs was quite strong but could have easily been unplugged or the setting turned down, which we've done since. Regarding the TV, we found the sound to be ok but will look into buying a sound bar. Property Owner

  • "Very impressed."

Over nearly 20 years we’ve stayed In many holiday cottages. This has to be the best one in just about all respects and we would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a visit to the Dales. A lot of effort was made by the owner to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We will definitely return for a week in the near future

Thank you. That's is so kind of you. We like to go the extra mile and make this a home form home. We do appreciate your words and look forward to seeing you again. The owners. Property Owner

  • "Lovely week in a lovely cottage."

Well appointed, comfortable and spacious. Everything worked, only one very very minor issue - a lid for the steamer would save some serious improvisation

Hi thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. And also pleased to report the lid for the steam cooker was found at the back of the cupboard where it's kept. Thank you again for taking the trouble to leave feedback. Kind regards. Property Owner

  • "The cottage itself was very nice and comfortable and the in good order."

The general information and recommendations left by the owner were very good and helpful and we found the cottage generally well maintained and comfortable. The local pub was welcoming and pleasant. However, although we enjoyed our stay in the property we were unable to use the television as the sound quality on the set was so bad we could not use it. We tried adjustment but were unable to rectify the problem. After spending a day walking and exploring the the Dales it was disappointing not to be able to relax and watch some TV in the evenings. The TV set is in need of replacement or over hall.

Hi, many thanks for your feedback. There is a new television in the cottage. We've also managed to link it up to the internet. I'm glad that you had a good stay. Property Owner

  • "The double bedroom suffered from damp, and the family bathroom had a terrible foisty smell (rotting vegetation) especially when the extractor fan had been operational for some time."

The garden could do with weeding, as we would have liked to sit at the bench on a couple of occasions, but the garden was quite overgrown. Other than the above, a wonderful house in a fabulous location.

Hi. I am glad you had a lovely holiday. Thank you for your kind email afterwards with photos from your stay, lovely to see. We have acted on your feedback: We are pleased to say that we've found a new, local gardener and since your stay the garden has had a full makeover. In the double bedroom, the damp was caused by guests showering, and we've since installed a much more powerful extractor fan. The smell you reported in the second bathroom has been dealt with; it was coming from outside of the property. Thank you once again Alan. Property Owner

The cottage was previously part of a cottage hotel and has been made into a lovely holiday home.

Bainbridge is a pretty village with its green, the river Bain, several shops, tea room, and local pub less than 300 yards from the cottage, which features spacious, well-positioned living areas, perfect for a family of six looking to explore the countryside.

The spacious, open-plan living area has a sitting area with woodburning stove and Smart TV, a dining area, and a modern kitchen, the 'U' shape living and kitchen space allows for guests to be together, but separate in the sitting area.

The backdrop of 6 Riverdale will be ideal for outdoor fans, surrounded by footpaths and walking trails, throughout the National Park, whilst Aysgarth Falls, a triple flight waterfall, sets the perfect scene for a relaxing stroll.

The village of Askrigg is within easy reach, along with famous walks and cycle rides, including around Semerwater with its inland beach, and waterfalls, and the Roman road on return, can be accessed straight from the door.
