  • "A lovely property overall but in need of some upkeep."

    The open bedroom looks lovely but is just not practical, it’s not possible to keep the light out and you can hear every noise in the house. The addition of a tumble drier would be welcome. And fly spray!! The pubs in walking distance only open a few nights a week, and their kitchens close relatively early, so plan accordingly. I would recommend the old chapel, it’s beautiful and quite comfortable but better if only the downstairs bedrooms are in use.

  • "The Old Chapel is a perfect multi family base in the Lakes."

    All facilities were exactly as listed and it’s a beautiful building. A good location and as long as you have a car the perfect base to explore the area. If we were to return to this area we would book again.

  • "Absolutely loved the property, had everything we could possibly want!"

    The only criticism is the mattress on the mezzanine bed, I think it could do with replacing. All of the other mattresses were wonderful but that one felt very old! Apart from that we had a wonderful time and the property was everything we wanted, thank you!

    It was very clean and very well stocked. The road outside is a small lane, with maybe 1 vehicle per day so nothing to worry about.

  • "The property was very good but some of the kitchen facilities were lacking."

    We had to wash cutlery between courses for a meal. After texting and then talking to the maintenance person in charge more wine glasses were brought to us - only 5 were there when we arrived and so local family had to bring some along for us. We also requested small glasses for water etc and they were brought on the Wednesday along with the wine glasses. This was our Golden Wedding Anniversary and so we wanted it to be 'just right' for everyone.

  • "The photos for The Old Chapel do not do the property justice."

    All of the rooms are generously sized and supplied with everything you could want. A real home room home with added wow. Two families of 4 stayed for a week and all had an amazing time, we would all definitely return again

  • "Excellent accomadation for up to 8 adults."

    On entering the property it was exceptionally well laid out. Cooking was very easy with all appliances catered for. Plus there is a lovely pub just 2mins walk away serving very good food. Strangely the upstairs bedroom has no wardrobe. and the 2 downstairs bedrooms were cold when the wind blew. Little problems. Access is good although you are likely to miss the turning on the first occasion.Car space excellent for three cars.Getting around is also very easy and nothing is too far to get to. For us as a party the highlight was Coniston water and the Gondola yacht.

  • "Wow what a fabulous property."

    We (all 8 + 1 dog) had a great time over Christmas. There is loads of room. Each family had a bedroom with ensuite even the dog had her own room. The kitchen has everything you need and there is a utility room too. A study for a quiet time with a tv and sofa bed should it be required. Plenty of towels were also supplied. The location is remote but we didnt mind that and there is a pub within a 2 minute walk that does excellent food. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

The property

This exceptional chapel is situated in the hamlet of Spark Bridge in the south lakes just four miles from Coniston.

Located in an elevated position it has views towards the fell and beautiful surrounding countryside.

On entering this unique accommodation through the old chapel doors you will see the tremendous height and vaulted ceiling, beams and the glass fronted mezzanine which is a bedroom suite area.

On this ground floor there is a beautifully appointed seating area with sumptuous settees and open plan living with dining area with all the original church leaded windows.

The well-equipped quality kitchen is open plan contemporary style with granite surfaces and this complements the wonderful character features of the leaded windows,vaulted beamed ceilings, original wooden floors.

There are also Juliet balconies from some of the original church windows.

Down stairs there are three fabulous bedrooms all with generous en suites and all have baths and showers and views to the garden or surrounding countryside, two have original doors leading to the garden.

Within 15 mins you are also at the tip of Lake Windermere at Newby Bridge where you enjoy a trip from Haverthwaite by steam train to the tip of Windermere Lake where you can embark on a Lakeland cruise and see this breath taking area from the water to Bowness and Ambleside .Also just 20 mins drive is the pretty village of Cartmel with the ancient 12th century priory, home also to the UK ‘s smallest race course which has meets throughout the summer and the Michelin L'enclume restaurant as well as artisan food shops, cafes and vintage shops.

SPARK BRIDGE

Ulverston 5 miles; Coniston 10 miles.

The small village of Spark Bridge is a couple of miles away from the village of Greenodd, which has a selection of shops next to th River Crake, whilst just five miles away is the ancient market town of Ulverston. Ulverston is famous for its street markets and festivals, and boasts a wide range of shops and various leisure facilities. It is also home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world. This is a great location for a walking holiday, and within driving distance are a number of attractions including, Grizedale, Coniston, Windermere, Hawkshead and Beatrix Potter's Hill Top, as well as the beautiful Furness Coast, with its golden beaches and good birdwatching opportunities. An ideal location for enjoying fantastic coastal and countryside pursuits.
