  • "Good quite location for a base to explore the lakes."

Nicely presented property and very clean. Wasn't happy with the noise levels coming from the family in the attached house.

You were advised it was jubilee weekend celebrations and there was a party on the Saturday evening next door to you we were sorry for the inconvenience it was only for the one night and most of the country were celebrating, Property Owner

  • "Lovely roomy house at the end of a quiet street, with it's own private patio and outside eating area."

Big modern bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, I had a great time there. Hosts live next door. There was nothing that I didn't like about it

  • "We have just returned home from a week’s stay at Marigold Cottage which is situated in the town of Millom in the Western Lake District."

This comfortable 2 bedroom cottage was all that we were expecting from the profile that we were looking for when booking our holiday. The property was very comfortable and had plenty of room for four adults. Having the owners live next door was a great advantage as they were on hand if you were in need of anything. We would highly recommend this Cottage to others and would return to it ourselves.

  • "Poor first impression gate hanging off hinge, weeds in flower pots and on entry to private outside space."

Poor layout part of property has been taken from owners house, can hear people talking. Fridge is in the understairs cupboard which is in the owners part of the property, although door is blocked off it felt uncomfortable. Dvd in lounge had no remote control. The kitchen needs new utensils especially sharpe knifes. The powder drawer in the washer was congealed with fabric conditioner and didn't work properly. There were no instructions on how to use any of the appliances. No instructions were given about which bins to use or where to put recycling. But by far the worst part of the property is the downstairs bathroom, the shower is in desperate need of replacing the lack of warm water was a huge issue. The toilet flush also needs replacing. The window blinds have seen better days and the lounge curtains look like they belong in down market student digs. The heating is part of the main house heating system so you have no say in when you have it on which isn't ideal. On the plus side the property was clean and the welcome pack was a nice touch I know this property doesn't cost a fortune and I wasn't expecting 5* accommodation but the property was disappointing and I wouldn't stay again

We are sorry the property was not you were looking for. The property is currently closed for maintenance and is having a brand new bathroom installed Property Owner

  • "We found this to be an ideal location to explore the Cumbria Coastal Way."

The property had everything we needed for our 7 night stay. The very friendly and helpful owners live next door.

  • "I think that the attached cottage, Marigold, appears to be rather tired."

It could do with a general spruce up. Some of the cooking utensils eg knives, need replacing. The shower is warm only, not hot: I think that this needs attention. On a positive note, parking is good. The location is good for visiting nearby coastal areas and the western lakes.

  • "The cottage is in a good location if you are travelling by train."

The accommodation is homely and comfortable and the owner was easily contactable if there were any issues. The details do not show that the bathroom is on the ground floor and the back outside space is very claustrophobic. The kitchen is well equipped but would benefit from a dishwasher particularly as it was difficult to find places to eat out.

  • "Marigold is a nice place."

House owner is helpful and provided prompt response whenever we seeking help. Although the hot water supply is good, if the shower can provide steady hot water for bathing, there will be perfect and sure I will return again.

  • "Had a lovely relaxing break at Marigold cottage, owners left welcome pack and were very friendly and happy to help if needed but didn’t intrude."

Millom is a quiet town with a couple of good friendly pubs serving food, walkable to coast and a good train service to go further afield - then come back and relax in hot tub - was one of the most relaxing holidays I’ve had in a while, what more can you ask for?

  • "Very nice relaxing holiday, it was a pleasure to relax in the hot tub after a day walking."

Upon arrival there was a nice welcome pack waiting for us including a bottle of wine. The local pub is just round the corner and has real ales whilst serving wonderful food, Sunday lunch was great.

About the location

MILLOM, CUMBRIA

Broughton-in-Furness 7.4 miles; Ambleside 23.8 miles

This small coastal town on the southern edges of the Lake District National Park frames the northern shores of the estuary leading to the River Duddon. Millom Museum offers an insight to its past, with a reconstruction of a drift mine lending a nod to its iron and steel works. There is also a statue in the town centre, commemorating the iron industry, depicting 'The Scutcher' who stopped the iron ore tubs with and iron bar and his own strength. This town was also home to writer Norman Nicholson, who has a stained glass window in St. George's Church dedicated to his memory, while the strange 'fish' window in the Holy Trinity Church is also worth a visit. Discover the remains of Millom Castle and travel to nearby Haverigg, with its Blue Flag beach, a restored lighthouse and children's adventure play areas, for the ideal family day out. Also find the 7 tonne sculpture ‘Escape to Light’ positioned near to the Haverigg Inshore Rescue station, constructed by Josefina de Vasconcellos to pay tribute to the Inshore Rescue Teams in the UK. Other attractions in the region include the South Lakes Safari Zoo, Black Combe for walks with stunning views and Sandscale Haws, a National Nature Reserve with an outstanding dune habitat supporting a plethora of wildlife. Further afield are the delightful towns and villages of the Lakes District such as Grizedale, Ambleside and Windermere, not forgetting the abundant walking and cycling opportunities in the area. Enjoy an adventurous break in Cumbria.
