  • "Lesson - read all the small print."

.. Searched for and booked what seemed to be a premium lodge with hot tub. Paid over £2000 for a week to find the hot tube turned off for winter. The top of your web page boldly said "with hot tub"(and included pictures of the hot tub in service with no leaves on the trees). All seemed well so I paid the deposit, I then read the bottom of the web page (possibly below the "read more" tab on my phone) to find that the hot tub will be unavailable in winter. Sykes kindly pointed out that this was shown on the website at the time of my booking and it was too late to transfer. I would have not booked knowing this. I feel that I have been mis sold this product and a refund of £300 would be appropriate to compensate for an unavailable main feature of the package? The Lodge was absolutely superb... Web services were great (with good email communication with Sykes) Brown road signage was seen at every junction leading to the lodge. The owner very politely called to see if everything was ok. The overall quality of the lodge was indeed premium and very much enjoyed. I did take a telescope and took some picture's of the Orion nebula, so the name "Stargazer Lodge" is very appropriate! I could have been extremely satisfied, so its perhaps a mistake to turn the hot tub off in winter in this price range, or take it out. My daughter went to a Forest Holiday at this time and all the hot tubs were fully available, so Stargazer is not "premium" without the hot tub. To be fair, I would allow a partial publication of this review. Paul Beetham 07807 477129

The hot tub wasn't warm, we didn't feel it appropriate to adjust the controls and didn't use it. Apart from that we enjoyed our week on this lovely peaceful site.

Thank you for your review, the hot tub is set at 30c for health and safety reasons.. Easy to set to its maximum 40c.maybe on your next vist, alter to Property Owner

  • "A beautiful lodge in a beautiful setting."

We stayed for a week, family of 4 and Luna our bulldog, there was plenty of room for us all in the lodge and the facilities were fantastic, especially the hot tub this was a real treat! The lodge was very clean and we was able to enter the lodge at 3.30 on day of arrival as the cleaners had already finished. The site is small and very quiet which is what we like. Very good location, 10 mins to Kirby Lonsdale, Carnforth where there is Tesco, Booths and Aldi. A little further is Windemere/Ambleside which is beautiful. We took a trip to Devil Bridge (10 min drive from the Lodge) which we all enjoyed, even swam in the river as we were blest with fantastic weather. We would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning to the lodge very soon xx

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, glad you enjoyed the lodge and its surroundings. Property Owner

  • "Arrived 3.20pm to find parking space taken by lad cleaning hot tub."

Informed will only be ready at 5pm as cleaner phoned in day before, no-one informed us. Oh, I tell a lie - Skyes phoned me at 3.50pm when we should have been able to get in at 4pm, I told them too late already here! Cleaner arrived about 3.40pm and did clean fridge and freezer then I could put my food in, she was very apologetic. Had to sit on the park with 2 restless dogs waiting for lodge to be cleaned. At 4.41pm received text from cleaner saying we could now go in. Putting clothes away found underpants and t.shirt in bedside cabinet from last occupant I assume. Got cups out for a drink - dirty along with cutlery. Windows dirty inside and out, even internal ones from bathroom and bedroom, webs and spiders everywhere. Suite and chair need a good steam cleaning, pillow cases on suite need a good clean. The worst thing for me was stripping the beds on the last day to discover no mattress or pillow protectors on. Stains on mattresses and pillows. Hot tub needs a good cleaning as well. Looked like pictures but furnishings needed a really good clean. I know we may seem fussy but we paid a lot if money for 1 week and expected a higher standard. Nowhere nearby to walk 2 energetic dogs legs off, unless you risked life and limb on the country lanes. Took the bikes but couldn't find the cycle paths mentioned and not confident enough to ride on the country lanes. We drove out a lot because it really is in the middle of no-where. Informed we could leave at 11am on the last day, still waiting to hear back from Sykes - definately won't be using them again!

Thank you for your feedback, Please accept my deepest apology that your stay at my lodge did not reach your expectations. With reference to checking in time having to be moved from 4pm to 5pm,this was due to one of the housekeeping cleaners phoning in sick with covid symptoms on the morning of lodge change over. I tried to contact you several times from 9.30am, in the end I left you a message reference later check in time. Note I did not inform Sykes as I believed you would of received my voice message. The cleaning of the lodge is normally done by 2 cleaners, The owner was on her own due to the illness of one of her staff, hence requesting an extra hour to clean. The lodge was cleaned as quickly as possible so as not to inconvenience you and your guests. However when I spoke to my housekeeper reference the clothes left by previous guests in bedroom draws and the missing pillow and mattress protectors she apologized profusely, not making any excuses for this she felt under pressure especially when you arrived 1hr 40min earlier than she expected, and missed checking the draws, and replacing the bedding protectors. The lodge had a deep clean on the 30th July 2021, and the suite cushions were washed, and seating area was steam cleaned, so cannot understand your comment reference the suite needing a clean. The hot tub is drained and cleaned on every change over and pictures taken, I have checked the pictures and the hot tub is perfectly clean, and was also checked again after 3 nights of your stay, chlorine checked, and any debris from trees etc netted out. The park is in a rural area which would account for more than usual spiders and webs, which can come over night, they are checked on every change over. The park has a lovely enclosed lake where you can let your dogs off. No need to walk them along the lanes if you do not wish to. There are numerous cycle routes one being the 90, just down the lane from the lodge. Please accept my deepest apology that your stay at my lodge did not reach your expectations. Property Owner

Check-in time was 16:00 which we feel is a bit late as it’s eats into the first day of the holiday and equally check-out time was too early at 10:00 We checked online and found the lodge wasn’t booked for the day we were leaving and thought we could have been offered a later check-out time of maybe 12:00 Overall a very beautiful lodge in beautiful surroundings

Many thanks for your positive review, Unfortunately I am unable to make the checking in an checking out times any better than they are due to increased cleaning required in our present pandemic, although l have recently reduced the down time for cleaning from 1700 to 1400, which you should have received. Glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "This lodge was absolutely gorgeous, everything we expected and more."

The location is lovely, the site is peaceful and the hot tub was a fab treat. The only thing I would say is the skylight windows in the bedroom meant we woke up at 7am every day which is unusual for us as we like a lie in, so the option of black out shutters would have been great. Much like every other lodge we looked at this year the price was extremely high for the first week in May, but we accepted we would have to pay more this year due to the pandemic! Just a few things that if I expect if I am paying so much for a week away.. at least enough dishwasher tablets for 1 a day, and enough toilet roll for the week.. I don’t expect to have to buy these myself when I’m paying that price. Furthermore, the hot tub went green about 2 days before the end of our week, if the filter needs changing mid way through the week you could leave a note telling us how to do this. Lastly, a fair few cobwebs throughout the lodge so I think it could do with a deeper clean every now and again! Overall we loved this stay so don’t let the little things put you off, just some small tips to the owners that would make the experience perfect!

Thank you for taking time to review my lodge. Thanks for feedback on dishwasher tablets and toilet rolls I have asked housekeeping to increase. The lodge was deep cleaned on the 12th April, sorry that you found a few cob webs. Situated in the countryside maybe adds to the issue. Sorry your hot tub water went a little green towards the end of your stay, this can be caused by numerous reasons ie, makeup, body lotions etc, but I take your concern very seriously as your safety is paramount, guests do not have to do anything reference the hot tub, except enjoy. I have instructed my hot tub engineer to visit twice a week on a weeks stay of any guest, instead of once. Please note that the hot tub is drained and sanitised after every guests stay to ensure your safety. Once again thank you for your honest review, and glad you enjoyed your stay overall, I hope to see you again in the near future. Property Owner

  • "We loved everything about the lodge, big enough for the two of us, comfy bed, comfy couch."

Quiet surroundings, nice walks (although wish we brought our dog - next time we will!) We had a slight issue with the power tripping on thursday morning where we had no power or heating for about 30 minutes but phoning Natasha and someone came to door quickly to get it back online, was mentioned that it occurs fairly regularly. Other issue we had was with the heating, it was October so coming into winter but the heating only went up to 20 degrees, never felt that the radiators were ever on and place was always freezing, spent most of the time in mornings and evening in master bedroom due to having the heater, otherwise we were wearing jumper/slippers & dressing gown just to keep warm. Next time will be looking to come during summer thats for sure! Me and my Wife (got married 2 days before we arrived at lodge so was a mini-moon for us due to covid canceling our maldives holiday) both loved every second of getting out to the countryside away from reality and relaxing.

I am really glad you enjoyed your stay. The previous Customers had altered the maximum heat setting to 20 degrees. We have now taken steps to ensure that this cant happen again . We are always on hand to help our Customers during their stay and if we had been contacted, we would have been able to help you during the holiday with this. The power issue was resolved during your stay. The RCD was replaced and no further issues have occurred. I hope to see you back in the future at the lodge to enjoy the lovely walks with your dog Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful time at Stargazer Lodge."

It was in a beautiful secluded location but not too far from the nearest village. The lodge was beautiful and finished to a very high quality with everything we needed and more. Only two little negative comments were the shower head in the en-suite was loose and kept sliding down and we couldn’t find the fishing equipment. We would definitely return!!!

Thank you so much for your perfect review on my lodge. Thanks for pointing out issue with shower head, now replaced. The fishing equipment could not be sanitised fully so due to covid had to be removed. We hope to see you again soon! Property Owner
