  • "We've returned from a very enjoyable stay at Spring Close."

The bedrooms are spacious and the accommodation very comfortable. The accommodation is just a short walk from the centre of Southport. We brought our dog with us. The garden was a perfect size for him and he loved his daily walks into Southport, to Victoria Park and a short walk on the beach. Thank you to John and his family for advice on where to go and for making us feel so welcome. We'd love to return another time.

  • "A very comfortable, home from home stay in John's house."

The house had everything we needed and the welcome pack was gratefully received! Great location close enough to town but far enough away from noise and distractions. Birkdakle village is lovely! A much needed, relaxing break for our family.

  • "Our Host John, made us feel very at home, nothing was too much trouble for him."

We arrived early, were allowed to leave the car on the drive and John gave us directions to a very nice cafe. (John was very good at giving accurate directions to wherever we wanted to go) We arrived to find a very nice little basket of food and a carton of milk. I think that was very thoughtful of him. When our daughter and Grandchildren arrived she had a problem with her car, a front mudflap had come adrift and was scraping on the ground. John said oh you can't drive with that, I'll fix it. He fixed it with a bit of wire, but later came back to say I've been thinking about it and I'll. Tape it up with Gaffa tape that will get you home. He was such a nice chap, we've never had any stay with anyone so caring. I was quite touched. It gave me hope for humanity once more.

In a quiet cul de sac, but close enough to all amenities. House is spotless clean, lovely garden which has the sun all day, beds are really comfortable , shower is very good. Kitchen has everything you could think of and more, good size living room and area with a table to eat as a family. John the owner is very informative about the area and things to do and was very helpful ensuring we had everything we needed. Very clean comfortable house in a lovely area, would definitely return.

We were so pleased with our first visit, that when we had needed to return to Southport, we didn't hesitate to book again. It's in an ideal location to get around Southport giving easy access to Southport town centre (and trains towards Manchester) and the village of Birkdale (and trains towards Liverpool). It a lovely warm comfortable house and well equipped. We wouldn't think twice about booking again. John is a very welcoming, informative and helpful host.

  • "A warm and comfortable home, which was welcome given that the weather had turned cold!"

Excellent location and quiet, despite being very close to the railway line. John, the host was very welcoming and informative. It really felt like we were in a home and not holiday accommodation. Convenient for both Southport town centre and especially Birkdale Village, where you can find the excellent Birkdale Cheese Co amongst other shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. Also a station there with good connections to Liverpool.

John the host could not of been more welcoming, he was extremely helpful throughout my stay. Extremely clean and fantastic facilities, the bed was so comfortable with a great mattress, that in itself is worth staying for. This really is a hidden gem in Southport, a real home from home, I would recommend to anyone looking for that ‘little xtra’ to stay here. Everything is catered for to make sure you have a fantastic stay, thank you John, for being such a marvellous host.

Bedrooms were a good size with adequate storage and they had pleasant views from the windows. We all had a good nights sleep in the cosy beds. The owner, John was very helpful and had put salt on the driveway before our arrival as it was extremely frosty. There was a short walk to the attractive village centre with lots of amenities.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday at Spring Close."

Thank you John for your welcome pack. This was very gratefully received. The property was ideally located for access to Birkdale village, Southport and Formby. We had lovely days out visiting a couple of National Trust properties, Blackpool, the iron men at Crosby, as well as Hesketh Park and the botanical gardens. My ten year old grandson spent his 10th birthday at the Southport pleasure beach and had a glorious day. The weather was kind enough to allow us to have several beach days at Ainsdale, but mostly at Formby.

  • "Big thanks to John for being such an enthusiastic, welcoming and helpful host."

The property was exactly what we needed - a comfy place close to local amenities and actives for the kids. Birkdale village is really nice and only a short walk away, whilst lovely spots like Formby beach are a short drive away. The place also benefits from being close to the train station - a mere few minutes from Birkdale to Southport on the train for instance. Would definitely recommend and would go again.

  • "Lovely house and garden, so peaceful bearing in mind that it is so close to the railway line but we didn't find it disruptive as trains are electric, relatively quiet and went past quickly."

Downstairs loo was an added bonus for us oldies with creaky joints, no stairs to climb every time the loo was needed. Double bed was so comfy, we slept really well and the walk-in shower was another bonus for us not having to climb in and out of a bath. Kitchen had all the equipment you could need for dining at home. The only downside for us were the sofas, too low for creaky jointed people but sitting on a bundle of cushions soon sorted that problem out. Would recommend a walk into the Village down the pathway by the side of the railway, lovely cafes and restaurants within walking distance and if you fancy visiting a 'real' pub (still has a taproom) then you can't do much better that The Upsteps, the patron and clients were so friendly when we visited to watch a Liverpool game on Sky Sports. We had a really comfortable, peaceful and fab stay at Spring Close. Thank you to all concerned. Cathy & Kevin May 2022

The only two little niggles we did have, was the fact that we would have liked the bathroom door to have a lock on it and although the wardrobe in the main bedroom was large and more than adequate, it would have been nice , to have a small wardrobe in the double room as well, just to save having to disturb others at times when needing clothes.

Thank you for your feedback and I am glad you enjoyed your stay at Spring Close. Following your feedback we will be installing a lock on the bathroom door. Thank you again for providing your comments and we hope to see you again in the future. Property Owner

This was one of the best properties we’ve experienced with Sykes. It had everything we needed and was so close to all the attractions and activities. Having a designated parking space with no permit needed was a huge bonus and the owners welcomed us with fresh flowers and essentials, which made our late night arrival a really pleasant experience. The beds were really comfortable too which was a huge plus! Would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

About the location

SOUTHPORT

Ainsdale 4 miles; Ormskirk 8 miles; Formby 8.5 miles.

Southport, along with its neighbour Ainsdale, lies on the coastline where the Irish Sea meets North West England. The town was founded in 1792 when an innkeeper, William Sutton, built a bathing house at what is now the south end of Lord Street, the main road running through the town. The town was small and not very widely populated until the turn of 19th century, when it became popular with tourists due to the easy access it provided to Leeds and Liverpool Canal. It quickly expanded and now boasts the second longest pleasure pier in the British Isles, the Southport Pier Tramway and Lord Street, an elegant, tree-lined shopping destination. From Birkdale to Woodvale, sand dunes stretch along the coastline and in Ainsdale in particular, the dunes have now been listed as a National Nature Reserve and a designated Ramsar site. The coastline stretches for 22 miles, with plenty of beaches to be discovered, making this classic seaside resort the perfect place to relax and unwind. There are scenic parks and gardens to explore, fabulous shopping opportunities, an exciting nightlife, as well as a mouth-watering array of restaurants and traditional seaside amusements. Stroll down the UK’s oldest iron pier and try the old penny slot machines in the Pavilion, or ride traditional carousels at Silcock’s Funland. Family attractions include Splash World, Martin Mere and Farmer Ted’s, while The Atkinson, an £18 million arts venue, is set in a Grade II listed building hosting a variety of visual and performing arts events. Southport’s extensive events programme includes the World Musical Fireworks Championships, the Southport Food and Drink Festival, Southport Air Show, Southport Flower Show and the Southport Jazz Festival. It is part of England’s Golf Coast and is home to seven championship courses, including Royal Birkdale, which hosted The Open Championship in 2008. In a great spot for a beach break, there really is something for everyone!
