  • "Had a great 3 nights, apartment really nice."

    One minor thing, we did both walks in guidebook left in room, as far as we could see there’s nothing to suggest how long each walk is, first night we went right along Hadrian’s wall, we went further along then suggested and were still back within an hour. Last night we went other way, left same time about 8 pm but going left is probably more than twice as far and it was getting dark by time we got back around 10 pm. Something in book giving approx times or distance would be handy maybe. No problem doing second walk but would have set off earlier had we known, just presumed both were similar. I ve said yes to publishing but not really bothered either way.

  • "This place is not very well run from our point of view."

    There are lots of times it shows that the owner would rather put the issue onto the guest than sort the actual problem out. For instance, there is a sticker on the bathroom door to remind you to leave the door shut while you shower so as not to set off the fire alarm. But if you leave the door open after you shower which we mistakenly did you still set the alarm off! At 11PM! All the owner needs to do is move the fire alarm! But instead they put the responsibility on the guest to not set off the fire alarm! Same with the heating in the room, it was set way too hot for our liking, so I wanted to adjust it. But in the introduction pack it says don't change the heating controls because they are complicated, so call us to come do it.?? All they need to do is buy a cheap electric radiator for two rooms that are not complicated to adjust then they can leave thier guest alone. Our room also had a large window in the front door which gave people in the hallway a clear veiw into our room and a clear veiw straight into the door of the children's room! A MASSIVE NO NO!! Also a massive window in the living/kitchen diner. No blinds, curtain, same as the window for the front door. No way of making your room private. It's lazy construction, and lazy running. I even wanted to use the washing machine one day and they were all full of sheets because the owner was cleaning some of the rooms ready for more guests, I asked if I could use the washing machine next and she said "is it urgent?" No, it wasn't urgent, but I would like to use the washing machine I payed for..... Not a happy stay, would not recommend. We did not like the place at all.

    Thank you for your recent feedback. I have looked at the points you have made and they are important to us because we strive to deliver a great experience for guests. The positioning of the fire alarm sensors was based upon the recommendations of a trained Fire Officer when the system was installed. To combat this we have put clear instructions in the guest book to keep the bathroom door closed whilst showering. Due to the hot weather, the heaters in the property were in fact turned off during your stay. The unusually high temperatures and the fact the property is on the upper floor can see the property get very warm at this time of year. Cooling fans are routinely provided during these times, but as indicated in our guestbook, we also have an ample supply of additional fans for guests if they are required. There is a small (30cm square) glass window in the front door of the property. This was fitted recently following direct feedback from guests that the hallway was too dark. The access corridor leading to this door is exclusive to this property and so there would be absolutely no reason for any other guest to be in this location. The large gallery window in the living room / kitchen of this property is its main feature of the property and its clear in the pictures provided in our listing. This provides great views of open farmland and the fells of the northern lake district. Unfortunately, due to the current Covid restrictions, the turnaround between stays is taking longer than usual - however this is a legislative requirement outside of our control. There will be times when all of the washing machines are full during changeover days - however guest's laundry will always be prioritized where possible. BRAMPTON, CUMBRIA

Carlisle 10 miles.

The market town of Brampton is the ideal base for exploring Hadrian’s Wall. The town boasts a rich and colourful history going back to the Roman occupation, Border reivers from Scotland and the Jacobite uprisings, plus bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton. In the centre of the town is Moot Hall, which was built in 1817, and now houses the Tourist Information Centre, and there is a large motte to the east of the town, which is 135 feet high and has the statue of the 7th Earl of Carlisle on it. A few miles outside Brampton is Talkin Tarn Country Park. It covers 120 acres of farmland and woodland, 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Two miles away is Gelt Woods, which is an ancient woodland and RSPB nature reserve and has the River Gelt running through it. Brampton is a wonderful base for exploring this historic and scenic area.
