"We LOVED our stay at Yewbarrow Cottage and felt right at home within minutes of being through the door."
December weather meant we made good use of the woodburning stove for cosy nights in - after some wonderful walks in Wasdale and Eskdale. The secure and private garden was wonderful too - our dog loved it, as did we. Thank you for being such great hosts
-
"We had a wonderful stay at Yewbarrow."
Probably the best cottage we have stayed at in years. Despite the seasonal weather we were cosy, warm and comfortable throughout, our dogs were so happy and settled, and the cottage had everything we could possibly need and more. Loved it so much we decided to rebook again before we even finished our holiday.
-
"Very well equipped and homely, especially the cooking facilities, to find more than 1 or even a baking tray isn’t usually the case in holiday cottages."
It was extremely rare to be given a big bath towel which was very much appreciated. As was the welcome gifts and also the boxes of tissue so thank you.
-
"Had a really lovely stay at Yewbarrow, it felt like a home from home!"
Well equipped with things we would need, wifi was surprisingly very good, the garden was lovely and safe for our dogs and the location was great for all the places we wanted to visit. We will definitely be returning :)
-
"What can I say that I didn't say in our previous review of our stay at Yewbarrow cottage , easier just to say that we've booked for our third visit ."
A lovely comfortable well equipped cottage in a lovely village close to all our favourite places Waswater and Scafell. Gosforth is a lovely quiet village with 4 inns and until a recent fire a village store .
-
"We had a wonderful week at Yewbarrow Cottage, which we found homely and cosy."
Lovely welcome message left from the owner with treats. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The drying room was an additional bonus. Beds were very comfy. We'd have no hesitation in staying again. Highly recommended.

"Absolutely loved staying at yewbarrow, everything was there that you could ..."
Absolutely loved staying at yewbarrow, everything was there that you could possibly need ,the house was very spacious and very clean ,perfectly situated in the village for all the amenities, loved the garden ,very much dog friendly and dog safe, although my dog did try to find a way out
-
"Property was exactly as described."
Spotlessly clean, very well equipped, comfortable and welcoming. The welcome treats were very thoughtful (and tasty) and included home baked cake and a lovely cut flower display which looked like it had come from the owners garden. Even the dog was not forgotten. It says dog friendly and the cottage certainly was, he was made to feel very welcome! Gosforth is an ideal location to holiday with 2 pubs within 5 minutes providing good food, nice Italian restaurant and a bakery. Perfect for coast and country. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property.
-
"This is a lovely cottage to stay in, very comfortable and relaxing."
Garden perfect for our dog, secluded and south facing. Would have liked some comfortable deck chairs instead of wooden ones but this is a minor thing. The owner made you feel welcome and Barbara the housekeeper also very accommodating, bringing us scones mid week when she cut the grass. Area is a bit far from the main attractions of the lakes so for that reason only we wouldn’t stay again. But an all round fantastic fortnights stay
-
"Beautiful cottage in a lovely location hah everything you needed for a home from hkne stay."
It was very well looked after abd do clean . The welcoming pack for both humanz abd doggies was very thoughtful . The garden was secure for our dogs and was lovely to seat out in with garden furnituŕe and space for a barbacue. There so many lovely walkies to go on. Will differently be booking again .

"Lovely cottage Very comfortable bed Lovely sofa Very equipped kitchen Great enclosed garden Close to pubs, Italian, shops and bus route."
Local pub opposite is a must, their pies are delicious and the Italian was also fabulous! 20mins from main supermarkets Great Central location to walks around lake district. Lovely welcome gifts for humans and pooch- this was a great added bonus and very much appreciated! The following feedback wouldn't stop us returning but wanted to be honest- Shower could be better, not powerful at all- not ideal if out walking all day and want to shower/ warm up- faff to wash longer hair. Kitchen floor tiles cracked Hoover lead very short. Some decor here and there could do with tlc Noisy from passing traffic if bedroom window open - unfortunately we stayed on a week where tractors were passing continuously throughout the night. Putting these fews things aside, All in all we had a wonderful stay and the location was fab!
-
"Lovely cottage very spacious and really comfortable beds."
Garden is a real sun trap and very well presented.

"Fabulous cottage."
Absolutely nothing we would change or add! Comfy beds, super clean, very well equipped. Lots of thoughtful gestures to make our stay even better. The welcome pack was lovely, especially all the extra bits for the dog! The bakery in Gosforth was an absolute gem of a place too. Gorgeous garden for sitting out in the sunshine. Would definitely recommend this place!
-
"A lovely comfortable cottage set in the quiet village of Gosforth , ideally situated for a walking holiday ."
The cottage had every amenity you could need and had been thoughtfully put together , a lovely small back garden with seating areas , ample parking space at the side of the cottage . Close to Wastwater and Scafell or if you like the coast Drigg and Seascale are close by . The village itself has a country store 3 pubs an Italian restaurant craft bakery and a cafe , Can thoroughly recommend the Gosforth Hall Inn and Wild Olive restaurant for eating out . Nice bottle of wine , cakes and some treats for Mr Pringles our dog left as a welcome gift . We enjoyed our stay so much we booked again whilst still there .
-
"The property it's self was excellent apart from the stairs which were much to steep for me,I am 80 years old and people should be warned about this."
Also the place is very remote, anywhere you wish to go you are driving on very narrow winding roads which are not in the best condition.
-
"Second time to this fabulous cottage and it won't be the last."
Well equipped and fantastic location with great access to the Western lakes and Gosforths local amenities. Lovely welcome tray. Thank you
-
"This is a very cosy cottage, everything you need like home from home, there was a surprise welcome pack which was lovely and the dogs was happy with there treats and the enclosed garden set in a quiet and peaceful village but close to beaches for the dogs and lakes we stayed in January and the place was beautiful definitely be back in summer."
-
"Wonderful short break at a lovely homely cottage."
As dog owners we were so impressed with all the little touches to make our doggy’s stay most comfortable, the lovely home baked human treats were also very well received along with the other groceries that were left for us-very kind and thoughtful. Loved the area as you have the best of both worlds, with the country and the coast and don’t have to travel far for some lovely walks. The village has everything you need and the locals were friendly and welcoming, the Kellbank fit us in for food at short notice (with dogs) and we had a lovely meal. The village bakery was closed as was the Wild Olive for New Year but both looked very good and worth a visit. The cottage has everything you need for a very comfortable stay, the drying room came in very handy with the wet weather. Like other guests I cannot finish without mentioning the beds, so comfortable for a great nights sleep. Thank you.
-
"Great location, lovely cottage to stay."
Fully equipped kitchen our girls loved baking some cookies whilst on our stay. Would recommend a knife sharpener as found knives not as sharp as I like to carve a roast( personal preference).
-
"On arrival we were met with a bottle of wine, crisps, chocolate biscuits and dog treats, the welcoming extra touches that show thought and care."
The wood burning fire had a basket of cut wood ready. The cottage was immaculately presented and ready for a holiday on opening the door. The building itself is perfect for a couple or small family. We, 3 adults and a large, well-behaved dog felt very comfortable throughout our stay. The living room and dining area downstairs was large and well lit with comfy sofas and a nice size TV. Bedrooms were good sized with plenty of clothes storage and nice comfy beds. The kitchen had all that you’d expect with all facilities easy to use. There were none of the frequent, restrictive not-so-dog-friendly rules about which parts of the property dogs are not welcome. All in all we had a lovely stay and can only praise the owners for a very welcoming and relaxing visit. Highly recommended.
-
"A great base for the whole of the Western side of the Lake District and West Cumbria."
The accommodation was as advertised, very dog friendly and comfortable
-
"We had a fabulous week in this cottage, all very clean and comfortable."
The beds were very comfortable. We had great weather for exploring the area and paddleboarding in the beautiful wastwater lake. Cottage felt very spacious, garden was very pleasant to sit in. Lovely place in a great location. Parking for two cars in the drive. Pubs were just a few minutes walk, woth good food. Thank you for a great week.

"This cottage was so nice."
The owners have thought of everything. Bed and couches comfortable. House lovely inside. Nice enclosed garden but a bit chilly to sit out except for one day. Lovely village and a choice of a few restaurants all within walking distance. Hope to return
-
"Fantastic cottage location."
Loads to do on your doorstep without too much of a drive. Spent a week here and had a great time. Garden fully secure for the dog. Facilities at the cottage are excellent everything provide for. Only downside for us was the lack of power for the shower, prefer more power when washing. Wouldn’t be a reason for not visiting again. Great cottage, village and location in the lakes. Thanks
-
"Yewbarrow was a beautiful place to stay for all the family."
We had a great time and would recommend staying here to anyone. This is the first place I have stayed in years where the beds are comfortable and I've slept well. To have a dog friendly place to stay which doesn't make feel you are being given second best is wonderful. There is so much to do in the area and you know when you return there is somewhere warm and comfortable to stay. Thank you so much!
-

Comfortable, clean, cosy and well equipped. The garden is secure for dogs and the village of Gosforth has 3 dog friendly pubs within walking distance of the cottage. Couldn’t fault it, would recommend and stay again.

"We loved this cottage from the moment we stepped in through the front door - it was a home from home!"
Very cosy and tastefully decorated with lots of bright splashes of colour throughout - I particularly loved the yellow bathroom! The trayful of goodies, the milk in the fridge, towels and treats for our dog we're all evidence of care and consideration for guests - we felt truly welcome and look forward to returning at some time in the future.
-
"We had the best week at Yewbarrow."
Such a lovely warm, clean and comfortable cottage with lots of thoughtful extra touches (for humans and doggies) the garden was totally secure and very pretty, a lovely place to sit out in the summer. Lots to do in the surrounding areas, we especially enjoyed the quiet beaches nearby. Gosforth itself is a pretty village with everything you could need. Would highly recommend.
-
"Yewbarrow is a lovely holiday cottage, extremely clean, very comfortable, warm and with a good range of kitchen equipment."
A really nice welcome pack was provided too. We would definitely return to Yewbarrow.
-
"Very impressed with this cosy, clean and comfortable cottage."
A dog friendly cottage that's actually dog friendly! Enclosed secure garden, treats, bowls and towels provided. Generous welcome pack. Lovely village, great location for visiting the Lakes. Not far from beautiful beaches. Weather not good so the drying room was well used! As was the Smart TV, the great selection of books and the cosy log burner. I would have liked a footstool to rest my weary legs on after all the Lakeland walking! Apart from that, the hosts have thought of everything to make a pleasant and comfortable stay. Highly recommended
-
"Had a fantastic stay at Yewbarrow cottage despite the weather not being great."
The cottage is equipped with everything you may need(including doggy towels which came in very useful!) and it is very comfortable. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay as perfect as possible, including a little welcome gift for us and some dog treats for the dogs. Can’t recommend highly enough, had a very relaxing time with a few nice walks around the local area which is beautiful! Lots of information also within the cottage about local walks and places to visit. Very good base for exploring the lakes and the little villages and also got the seafront at seascales just under 3 miles away which the dogs enjoyed also. Would definitely come back again.
-
"Yewbank cottage was excellent with a totally enclosed garden for dogs."
Gosforth is a lovely village with 5 pubs within a short walk and a very good bakery. Close enough to main places of interest in the lake district, though some roads can be potential gridlock at busy times. The cottage is lovely, well equipped and lots of information provided. Would thoroughly recommend.
-
"We had a lovely stay in this very cosy, comfortable and well-equipped cottage and would really recommend it."
It was just the right size and space for us and very welcoming for our dog - the food bowls and extra towels provided were a nice touch. There is a secure, private garden which is just a lovely place to sit out at the end of the day with a cuppa. Gosforth is a fine place to base yourselves for the western lakes with good easy access to Wasdale and Eskdale and has all the facilities you need with a shop, pubs and cafes and excellent little bakery that opens early - great for a breakfast bacon butty and all you need for lunch.
-
"Yew arrow is a beautiful cottage."
It’s very clean, has everything you need for a self catering break. We stopped for 4 nights with our 2 small dogs. Lovely enclosed garden. The cottage is in a lovely little village, where there’s an excellent convenience store, that do excellent breakfast barms. Several pubs & eateries. Our favourites were the wild olive which is an excellent Italian, the kellbank, who have a good menu, food & service is very good & the gosford hall inn. A very enjoyable stay, would definitely recommend.
-
"Very thoughtful welcome pack"
-
"Fabulous home from home experience, lovely personal touches from owner, house well equipped and very clean."
We will definitely return to this property and recommend to friends. Garden was very dog friendly, fully walled in and siutable for our inquisitive lurcher. Village was a great location for getting out and about easily, even on foot from the house. Bakery is a must!

"Such a wonderful stay at Yewbarrow cottage!"
The owner has thought of everything you could possibly think of to make our holiday perfect. The house is beautiful, fabulous garden, and the location is spot on - walking distance to all village amenities and nice walks and a short drive to some of the best parts of the Lakes. We can’t wait to come back again, such a perfect week. Thank you!!
-
"What a wonderful week we've had at Yewbarrow Cottage."
The cottage was spotless, comfortable and warm to come back to after a day out in the cold weather. Ann-Marie's attention to detail throughout the cottage wasn't missed. Kitchen was well equipped and the soft furnishings throughout very tastefully done and to a high spec. It's given me a few ideas for my own house! The bedding and towels were of excellent quality and the kingsize bed so comfy too. Thanks for the welcome pack Ann-Marie which included treats for Saphy our chocolate labrador. The italian restaurant, local pub and Gosforth Hall provided us with excellent meals and all staff were so friendly in each venue. The local's are very friendly too. Local bakery and convenience store very handy too. I would defiantly recommend this cottage. Plenty of places to visit within striking distance and a few local walks well worth a try. Details are in the welcome pack provided by Anne-Marie.
-
"A lovely warm, cosy, does exactly what it says on the tin type of home."
A home away from home in a beautiful location. We will return and will recommend to others.
-
"Beautifully presented cottage with everything you could possibly want."
Everything you need on your doorstep. Good little local shop, pub and cafe. All in all a great relaxing stay in a beautiful cottage.
-
"We found the property very clean, cosy and warm."
The kitchen was well stocked with everything that we needed. The welcome pack was a very welcome surprise and enjoyed by all including Milo the dog. We would highly recommend this property to anyone and would certainly stay again if we were coming to that area. Ideal place for walkers in all weathers as there is a superb drying room.
-
"Wonderful stay in a home from home cottage."
We were short of nothing. Quality of beds and linens 5*. Spotlessly clean and snuggly warm. Great enclosed garden for our Goldie Harvey who gives it the thumbs up. Lovely touch with the welcome pack. Cant wait to go back in 2022. Thankyou.
-
"Absolutely beautiful homely cottage."
Warm and welcoming. Very comfortable furniture and king size bed. Catered for us and our 2 rescue dogs with treats for us all. Will hopefully be staying again some time next year! Can't recommend highly enough!
-
"We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Yew barrow, it felt like a real home from home."
It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed and the little gestures like treats for our dog and fresh eggs, tea bags, milk and welcoming treats for us too was a lovely surprise. Would highly recommend Yewbarrow as a place to stay.
-
"Yewbarrow is a fantastic holiday home and ideal for self catering."
The host is superb and left lovely, welcoming goodies for us and our dog. New beds that are super comfy with lovely linens. There are even fresh towels for the dog! The garden is enclosed so no need to worry about the dog getting out. It's a great base for travelling about and Lake Coniston is about a 50 minute drive away. Canoeing only a few miles away in Wastwater. Golf 5 minute drive to Seascale. The beach at Seascale is lovely for a walk. The village bakery is amazing as is the Italian restaurant. The local shop is supported by Sainsbury's so pretty much everything you need if you run out of anything. Tesco also deliver. Wifi in the house is great as we had to do some work while we were away, and there were no problems at all. All in all a lovely, cosy cottage for a break in the lake district.
-
"I cannot recommend Yewbarrow enough and we were actually so sad to be leaving, it felt like a real home from home."
Straight away the cottage was incredibly cosy which was lovely arriving a dark, rainy night - and so warm! Really gorgeous welcome package both for us and our Labrador which was so appreciated. The cakes were lovely and we went to the bakery for more!! As a dog owner everything was thought about - dog bowls, spare dog towels, welcome biscuits - it made such a refreshing change, and no extra charge, yay! Milk in the fridge on arrival (thankyou!) and other essentials in the kitchen. The location is wonderful, Wastwater is our favourite lake so it was perfect for visiting and for Eskdale. The village was fab with food from the bakery (great pies and eclairs!) and Wild Olive Pizzas for a takeaway on a rainy night. Great local shop also. Cannot recommend enough, also the beds are AMAZING! So comfy. A big drying room which came in so useful for all dirty/wet clothes that the Lakes inevitably delivered. For once as well it was the best stocked kitchen we have ever stayed in, everything was considered which was wonderful to actually be able to cook how you would at home. All round a perfect house for a perfect trip, thankyou so much :) If in doubt don't hesitate to book this gorgeous house :)
-
"Great location to explore the area with the benefit of being close to beaches and the lakes."
Yewbarrow is a fully equipped, comfortable cottage with luxury finishes. Beautiful bed linen and a comfy bed. The cottage is very dog friendly with a secure garden. We appreciated the welcome pack and texts from the owner. Gosforth has multiple places to eat, a fully stocked local store, a great bakery and bike/board hire shop all within a few minutes walk from the cottage.
-
"Great location in a quiet village but really well served by several inns, restaurant (Wild Olive was excellent) bakery, small supermarket, beautiful rural walks on your doorstep."
On the edge of The Lakes, so much quieter as a result, which was great, but not far to Eskdale, Skarfell, Cockermouth, Ravenglass steam railway etc. Lovely, sunny, back garden, safely enclosed for our dogs, had great weather, so could have done with a parasol believe it or not!! Comfy bed, plenty of hot water, new sofas, off-road parking. Would definitely recommend.
-
"The cottage had everything from cleaning products to bath salts!"
Lovely cottage home from home! Would not hesitate in recommending this lovely place. Hopefully will visit again.
-
"Such a well equipped house - we had such a lovely relaxing stay - thank you so much for having us."
-
"This is a lovely cottage in a great position with some excellent eating places within walking distance."
I would advise anyone staying especially in busy times to book a table to eat at least 2 days in advance as we struggled a couple of times to get anywhere (especially at the Wild Olive and Gosforth Hall). Also not everywhere is open on a Monday night. The cafe is excellent and worth a trip even if it's just for a cuppa and tea cake. When we arrived slightly earlier than expected I messaged the owners to see if we could leave the car at the cottage and was told the cottage was all ready for us so we got in early which was a great bonus. We were welcomed with biscuits and wine which was a lovely touch.
-
"It was a lovely cottage in a fantastic location."
Host communication was brilliant and the welcome pack exceptionally thoughtful. I loved how welcomed our dogs were. Such a refreshing change!
