  • "Fantastic Property with incredible views!"

Super comfy bed which was perfect after our long walks and ideal location to then get back into tourist hotspots as and when we wanted to! Will stay again next year!

  • "This was our 3rd year staying at Acorn cottage, set on the stunning Oaks estate ."

The hot tub is great after a day walking . This year I found standards had gone down !! Too many cobwebs, drawers in bedroom dirty with dust and hair, cheapest kitchen& toilet roll ,no ice tray and the welcome pack was non existent .

  • "Loved our stay here, it’s got everything that you need in the cottage itself, and it’s a few minutes drive to Bowness."

The view out on the balcony is amazing! We were luckily enough to even see, what we believe, a buzzard! Which was a magical sight. The cottage itself is open plan, with walls being used as a divider, it is very airy and cosy. It was extremely clean, and a folder was left with instructions for everything and also details for attractions and walks. The site is also great, plenty of parking if you do need more than 1 space that comes with the cottage itself, and the site is peaceful, we were never disrupted by cars, or anything for that matter! It’s a great location, you can stay close to Windermere and Bowness - which has plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways. But it’s also a great location if you wish to travel further too. We would 100% stay here again, and we more than likely will! There are plenty of other accommodations on the site too, so if this doesn’t suit your needs, then I’m sure one of the others will.

! Me and my boyfriend came for 3 nights and loved every second. The cleanliness of the cottage and hot tub was immaculate! The view as well was beautiful and waking up to robins, pheasants and sheep was delightful! The fact that the little things are thought of such as tea, coffee, matches for the log burner etc so we didn’t need to think of them, also the grasmere gingerbread was a lovely touch!! We will definitely be back!!! Can not wait!!! Lynsey and Pete xx

  • "Acorn cottage was really lovely and a great location."

The property itself was very clean on our arrival and we done a pre order of a breakfast pack which was in the fridge ready for our first morning. I would recommend this as after a 4 hr journey it was nice to just get there and start enjoying our holiday without having to go shops straight away. It also had tea, coffee, fresh milk and biscuits for when we got there. The hot tub was lovely and clean and had such a lovely veiw which me and my husband enjoyed every day of been there and having sheep as our neighbours was great. We also enjoyed the lovely log fire esp as we went in the winter. The only thing I think the property could do with is some hooks around the place to hang things like coats or dressing gowns and a shoe rack would have been very handy. Just another thing to keep in mind there is no doors in the property separating any of the rooms including bathroom, luckily for us me and my husband don't mind but some couple's might not like that there isn't much privacy in the bathroom. I would certainly book to go again.

There is no door to the bathroom although it is tucked away in the corner, so doesn’t feel all that private. No major issues overall and we had a chilled out relaxing week. Also enjoyed the smart tv and log fire and kitchen facilities. Could do with some new oven trays maybe they are a bit scratched looking. Thank you.

  • "Think it needs to made clearer about the closeness of the large property next-door 'Oakhouse'."

In the published picture it definitely isn't clear, We had 2 nights of being kept awake till 3.00am by inconsiderate guests having parties. We chose this property for the peace and quiet, but was spoilt by next-door. After speaking to the caretaker, this was a common occurance as the property sleeps 25,and hen and stag parties book it, for this reason, reluctantly we wouldn't stay again. This is such a shame as the area and location are perfect, as is the Cottage.

Thank you so much for your comments. We do apologise that the location of the property was not made clearer, we have now amended this on the website. We are also sorry to hear that you were disturbed by other guests during your stay. We do ask all guests to be considerate of other holidaymakers in our terms and conditions so we are sorry that this wasn't adhered to on this occasion. The owners do have an on call number for guests to use to report problems straight away and this could have been used during your stay to alert the staff visiting the site each day. The owner also has a strict policy in place with regards to stag/hen or similar parties booking the larger property in order to try and avoid such situations arising. Property Owner

The outlook from the balcony was stunning with an abundance of wildlife to be seen, the weather was also very warm which always helps. The facilities in the cottage were excellent, however be aware there is only a low partition wall between the toilet and bedroom! The walk into Bowness downhill was pleasant however is arduous coming back for non-walkers. Overall was very pleased with the accomodation and the hot tub is a bonus. Just a care point there are only 2 small metal chairs on the balcony which wernt comfortable for outdoor eating. Overall very nice though.

Thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub after long hikes and the view from the hot tub was wonderful. We saw deer, rabbits, sheep, lambs and pheasants. The bed and sofa were extremely comfortable to relax in also and the shower and kitchen facilities were great. Great location too as felt very isolated and away from it all yet only a 25 minute walk into Bowness. A perfect stay that we didn’t want to leave!

The hot tub is situated so you have all the amazing views but still feel private. Facilities spot on and more than adequate with such a lot of mod cons. The cottage had everything you could possibly need. The views and the privacy whilst in the hot tub were most welcome and we can't wait to stay again. One thing I would recommend is to have a parasol over the hot tub. Would only be a cheap addition but would enable the hot tub to be used even when raining. 5* would highly recommend.

The finish is of a very high standard and it has a very warm relaxing feel to it. The kitchen is equipped for anything you could think of cooking added to that the stunning views from the kitchen window make you never want to leave. The outside area was so peaceful and again looking out across the countryside What more could you ask for. The addition of the hot tub just makes this area perfect to unwind with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. Acorn is perfect for couples looking to escape and get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, you definitely will not be disappointed. Office staff can’t do enough to ensure your stay is stress free and local information provided is excellent. I would highly recommend Sykes cottages to anyone and we cannot wait to return.

The cottage itself was equipped with everything you would need ( although coat hooks would be useful! ) was very clean, has a very comfortable bed, an amazing shower and has a balcony with stunning views over fields where you can have your meals. The patio was also fabulous and you can enjoy the wildlife whilst relaxing in the hot tub with a glass of wine. We saw sheep, ducks, rabbits, robins, thrush and even a passing deer! Overall very good. However cottage lacked storage space and what was there the furniture was very basic and flimsy. No facilities to hang wet coats. Also TV reception was very patchy throughout the week with many channels not responding after being available on other days. I did bring this to the staffs attention, but it continued. Minor points as enjoyed the cottage overall.

It was quiet and reserved so felt we were in our own little world. The views and wildlife was great to see, especially when relaxing in the hot tub on an evening. The cottage had everything we needed and felt welcomed from the start. Bowness isn’t far from the cottage with a 30 minute walk in but a 5 minute drive. If you get taxis I recommend Lakeside taxis as they did us a cheap fixed fair and were always on time and courteous. We were sad to leave but I wouldn’t hesitate going back there.

We stayed during lambing season too, so got to watch the lambs play in the fields over the back of the cottage. The cottage is close to the village and your just a short drive from other areas of interest. Totally recommend 'The Brown Horse' pub just 5 mins up the road. Food was amazing!! The only thing missing from the cottage were coat hooks - did mention this as we left though, so hopefully they should be in soon :) Would most definitely return to this cottage.

A short walk into town which has plenty of things to do and places to eat. Agree with another reviewer who mentioned a lack of privacy though - the wall between the bathroom and bedroom isn’t a full wall so everything can be heard.
