  • "Lovely flat, compact but spotless and well equipped."

Good WiFi and a dedicated parking space right outside in front of the garage. Great location being convenient for the lake and the town with all its shops, pubs and restaurants.

  • "I would Highly recommend this property, it’s very clean with everything you need for your stay, we received a lovely welcome pack, bottle of wine, box of chocolates and a pint of milk, which was very much appreciated."

It’s also in a perfect location, there’s some steps on the left as you walk out of the apartment and it takes you straight into the town centre, which had some lovely shops and pubs to visit, the lake is not even a 5 minute walk to get too. Windermere is a mile away and Ambleside and Coniston is about 5 miles, if you want central then this is the place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review following your stay at Aucuba recently. We are delighted that you had everything you needed for your stay and found its location was perfect for visiting Bowness itself and the lake. We hope you return to the Lake District again in the future. Property Owner

  • "We stayed in Aucuba for one week in June when the Lake District was very busy."

The apartment was very well situated in Bowness-On-Windermere, very close to shops and restaurants. It was really good to have designated parking. The apartment was small and compact, well decorated and comfortable and had everything we needed for a week’s stay. (If the stay had been two weeks we may have regretted there wasn’t a washing machine) The bedroom had good storage (plenty of hangers too!) The Kitchen was well equipped and the owner had thoughtfully left some of the small things you otherwise have to bring or buy like washing up liquid, bin liners etc. The only thing that we missed having was outside space, there isn’t a balcony or shared garden, so nowhere to sit outside with morning coffee or a drink (which I was aware of before booking). The description from Sykes was accurate, they emailed us on our arrival date and we had a contact number should we have needed it. Very much enjoyed our stay.

  • "Very neat clean tidy."

Location excellent for shops, pubs lake. Even found an alley at the Rayrigg precinct that led to the top of our road so could do a circular walk.! Everything provided for well equipped. Wine, chocolates and milk in fridge, lovely touch! Downfalls are being close to the road, traffic noise early (5.30) in the morning, the cars wizz along! Bins collected then too! Music from the pubs at night. The bed was a bit hard for me so didn’t sleep well. The bathroom and kitchen are tiny but had all you needed. Recycling in operation but details not made clear. black bins were out on arrival but not informed of collection day so missed it, they disappeared and blue bags suddenly appeared for the recycling! but we had taken most of ours to bins in car parks by then. Felt awful about leaving full bins in kitchen. Sorry! Could put detailed info about recycling in information leaflet I’m sure people wouldn’t mind.

'Thank you for taking the time to review your holiday, we are glad that you found Aucuba to be very clean, was in an excellent location and had everything you needed during your stay. In order to comply with government COVID regulations from 12th April to 17th May, Lakes Cottage Holidays required all property owners to confirm that there were no communal / shared areas in relation to their property during this period. We therefore provided additional bin storage for the disposal of waste in the garage. The holiday guide has now been fully updated and includes all the required information for waste disposal from 17th May. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Lake District in the near future'. Property Owner

  • "Amazing little flat in the Lake District, super close to pubs, shops and central Windermere."

There was a bottle of wine left on our arrival which was a pleasant surprise, the flat was clean, cosy and I was impressed with the kitchen facilities even though it was a little small. It also included an ironing board, hairdryer, extra heaters and spare blankets. The garage was also an extra bonus for anyone needing the extra space or bringing two cars. Would happily stay here again if we go to Windermere and would not hesitate to recommend this place.

  • "The apartment was beautifully decorated and spotless and well equipped."

The passageway from the garage to a set of steps to Bowness shops and cafes was a bonus as it saved a steep climb up to the start of the complex. A phone call from Sykes next day to check everything ok was a nice surprise.

It is the perfect place to enjoy around there. Also, the accommodation is equipped with useful goods, for example heaters. I appreciate its service and support. Once I misunderstood how to use a boiler system and asked some help, I got the phone call in the next day quickly. Thank you for everything.

  • "We normally stay in hotels but because of the pandemic, decided to stay in a holiday flat."

The location is ideal as it places you within a few minutes walk to Borrowdale town and very close to the marina. The apartment was very clean and although the kitchen was small, it had all the features we needed. Not only did it have a parking bay that was slightly covered, it did have a garage, which we did not use. This was an excellent bolt hole for someone who likes the mountains and lakes and we had the pleasure in meeting the owner who was very pleasant and had time for a chat. I would not hesitate in booking this apartment again.

  • "The accommodation in general was good, high spec finish however the mattress was too hard."

When you're walking to view the scenery you need rest to enable yourself to do the same daily. This wasn't possible culminating with leaving the accommodation at 3am on Wednesday morning (29-07-20). We had virtually no sleep in the 5 nights we stayed. The break was spoiled because of this issue.

  • "Fabulous apartment and very clean."

The kitchen is not the largest but has everything you need. I always take a sharp knife to use in cottages pleased to say I had no need of it as it was fully stocked with everything you would need. If you prefer not to cook you can walk into the centre of Bowness in 2 minutes with many pubs and dining establishments. Its five minutes to get a boat trip on Windermere either to just tour round or use it to visit different places. The lounge/dining room has plenty of space and has small tables to pop your drinks on. These are so often not provided and make relaxing so much easier. Bedroom is large with a good bed and masses of hanging space. The bathroom is small but usable and has a good surface to place your toiletries on. The shower over the bath was hot with plenty of water. The garage is a great bonus. It is very long and has a retractable washing line at the back of it so if you've been caught in bad weather you can hang wet coats easily there. The complementary bottle of wine and other goodies were most appreciated
