    “The Sykes experience was excellent.”

    As far as the flat went, it was clean and reasonably well equipped (a pair of kitchen scissors and a small chopping knife would be very useful). It is on the main road convenient for buses to Windermere station, Ambleside and Grasmere, and is on a steep road from the lake about 5 minutes walk away for other buses and the steamers. The accommodation is on the first floor and has steep stairs, it also has four extra stairs at the bottom which can be avoided by walking through the restaurant ...

It is on the main road convenient for buses to Windermere station, Ambleside and Grasmere, and is on a steep road from the lake about 5 minutes walk away for other buses and the steamers. The accommodation is on the first floor and has steep stairs, it also has four extra stairs at the bottom which can be avoided by walking through the restaurant forecourt. It has some more steps to the parking area at the back which we found absolutely impossible to find in the dark on arrival. Far more details need to be given off Longlands Road, a little map would be helpful, we spent over an hour trying to find the correct parking space! Once in the flat it is warm and has double glazing. The two bedrooms are at the front (double and smaller twin) and are extremely noisy if the windows are open. As I have asthma and have to sleep with the window open I had to move a single mattress to the lounge which was also noisy because of the main road echo from the stair well and wasn't too comfortable. For someone who sleeps heavily it would be very nice as the sun shines in to the lounge in the afternoon and there is a deli next door and a Co-op with a cash machine next to that, there are also three restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. There is also a part view of the lake at the back. The hot water is by immersion and heats up reasonably quickly.

This lovely first floor apartment is situated above an Italian restaurant in a parade of shops in the centre of the vibrant town of Bowness on Windermere.

The apartment is an ideal base for a family wishing to explore this fabulous part of the country.

From the hallway there is an open plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen which has a dining area and a sitting area with comfortable seating and an electric fire.

To complete the accommodation there is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom.

In the town of Bowness there is a wide selection of places to eat and drink, from tea and cake to bars and splendid restaurants.

Why not take a trip on one of Windermere Lake Cruises?

The cruises have several stop options, including Lakeside and the Lakes Aquarium, Ambleside, the Brockhole Visitor Centre or the National Trust Wray Castle, a superb way to explore the surrounding areas.

For a spot of nostalgia visit the traditional Royalty Cinema, where you can view the latest movies, or listen to the Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ from a bygone era, which can be heard in concert or alongside a silent movie.

Further afield is the town of Kendal with its castle ruins, museums and shopping, whilst Ambleside’s bustling town centre is just a short drive.

Grizedale Forest is not to be missed with its excellent walking and mountain biking trails as well as high tree-top adventure at Go Ape.
