  • "Really the only good point to this apartment is the great location."

Centrally located so great access to the town. However, the accommodation itself is not great. The two bedrooms smell damp, beds are fine and linens no issues. Towels are very thin. None of the blinds are child safe, not too much of an issue in the lounge but not safe in the bedrooms. The bathroom is awful. Grim overall, tiles/grout/awful floor/bath taps & handles / round the toilet. Very low pressure shower but that’s not unusual. Whilst clean that does not compensate for the overall state of it. The red chair in lounge is grim/not clean. Some things appear new the rest are awful. Sykes did call to discuss but as we were only there 3 nights we didn’t think there was much point getting stressed about it. Cheap place but not worth it.

  • "Not the cleanest of places to stay."

Grubby grouting, sealant round sink and bath, filthy behind toilet. Floor peeling in both kitchen and bathroom. Hair in bathroom and on dressing table. Kitchen sink constantly blocked, taking forever to drain. Inside front door handle loose, will come off soon if not seen to locking someone in. Have stayed in beautiful sykes places before, wouldn't recommend this one.

Hanging space required in the twin bedroom even if it was hooks on the wall.. Great location & a car parking space (we have stayed before in this apartment) Bathroom skirtings where dusty when we arrived.. • "The flat is superbly located in central bowness and is well equipped."

The down sides are the smells from the restaurant below and the extremely uncomfortable beds and pillows. There is plenty of hot water and we found the shower is good. The bathroom needs a little updating and attention. Sleep quality is extremely important and I would suggest the owner needs to address the poor sleep quality as this is a major let down.

  • "The flat was located in a busy area in Bowness which was handy."

We did not have any problems finding it and was very clean. It had everything we needed for a self catering holiday but would agree that a pair of scissors would have been good to have and more bags for rubbish or a bigger bin! There is an Italian restaurant below but we did not have any noise from them. The problem was the noise from the traffic and a bloody manhole nearby! The blinds do not really keep the noise out unfortunately unless you are a heavy sleeper. The beds were uncomfortable. In one of the rooms there are two single beds and you could feel the springs. They reminded me of a cheap student HMO. I had to use an air bed to put under the bedsheet to make it harder. The shower head was not the best but we managed ok. Overall, our stay was fine and served the purpose of getting to know the area, walk and travel to other places from here, although I am not sure I would stay here again if I have other options.

  • "We very much enjoyed our stay in Belle View."

The apartment had everything we needed. The lovely views over the rooftops towards Lake Windermere from the living room, kitchen and bathroom were a very pleasant surprise. There is quite a bit of noise from the restaurant below, but it didn't go on very late during our stay. The mattress in the main bedroom isn't great, but we managed to sleep. Our main recommendation to the owner would be to install blackout blinds in the bedrooms as the Venetian ones are ineffective for keeping out the light. The bathroom is perfectly functional. The electric shower required some practise to adjust the temperature. One thing which we found annoying was that the thing which holds the shower head was broken, so we could only lean it precariously against the wall and couldn't adjust this. I think this requires urgent rectification. Regarding the living room, the main criticism is that the television is mounted way too high on the wall. The furniture is comfortable enough. A slightly longer sofa would have been preferable. The location of the apartment is one of its main selling points. It is just a short stroll from Belle View to shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as the lake. There is a bus stop a couple minutes' walk up the hill, with very regular departures to nearby Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere. In spite of pointing out a few potential improvements, we had a great holiday and would be happy to stay in Belle View next time we visit the Lake District.

  • "Belle View Bowness on Windermere."

The apartment no 34 was a little tricky parking in the appointed designated place due to a blue car behind parked directly behind against the building which made it impossible for larger vehicles to gain access to the end. Great location and easy instructions to the property. Excellent accommodation and spacious, clean and very cosy and warm. The views from the living area are stunning. Basics salt pepper fairy and cloths provided and all utensils, equipment and amenities. Information pack and lake magazines very useful and a Brentfell walk manual. Comfy beds and very large plumped up pillows. Could do with maybe a pair of scissors but it was like being at home from home. Bowness plenty to see and do. Across on the Ferry to Hill Top. Beatrix Potter museum round the corner. Helvellyn half hours drive away. Trattoria Italian below the flat was excellent fine dining, a little pricey but to celebrate our first night stay was a treat. John Peel pub grub do excellent Sunday lunch at a good price and real ale beer. Lake Raj was so accommodating as most places won’t allow you in after 8pm so booking would be advisable. Lake Raj was excellent Indian food and excellent facilities and strict with the social distancing. The Stags Head good for watching sports as well as a dog, child friendly pub with excellent food and the place has character. Cruise to Ambleside and to see the Stockghyll Force waterfalls and chocolate dip ice cream on the Lakeside. Brant Fell walk advised in the apartment and gave stunning views I would recommend doing this but it is steep but not too far to go but if you can’t manage it then Biskey Howe viewpoint is just pass and beyond the Angel Inn. Angel inn is a gorgeous pub and very popular. We were so grateful that we could attend our trip in between the lockdowns and we felt the apartment was amongst the hustle and bustle of the main area and perfectly made our week brilliant. Thank you

  • "The Sykes experience was excellent."

As far as the flat went, it was clean and reasonably well equipped (a pair of kitchen scissors and a small chopping knife would be very useful). It is on the main road convenient for buses to Windermere station, Ambleside and Grasmere, and is on a steep road from the lake about 5 minutes walk away for other buses and the steamers. The accommodation is on the first floor and has steep stairs, it also has four extra stairs at the bottom which can be avoided by walking through the restaurant forecourt. It has some more steps to the parking area at the back which we found absolutely impossible to find in the dark on arrival. Far more details need to be given off Longlands Road, a little map would be helpful, we spent over an hour trying to find the correct parking space! Once in the flat it is warm and has double glazing. The two bedrooms are at the front (double and smaller twin) and are extremely noisy if the windows are open. As I have asthma and have to sleep with the window open I had to move a single mattress to the lounge which was also noisy because of the main road echo from the stair well and wasn't too comfortable. For someone who sleeps heavily it would be very nice as the sun shines in to the lounge in the afternoon and there is a deli next door and a Co-op with a cash machine next to that, there are also three restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. There is also a part view of the lake at the back. The hot water is by immersion and heats up reasonably quickly.

Apartment close to Bowness Centre and easy walking distances to Windermere town centre. Apartment spacious and well equipped for a weeks stay. Could do with a fan as apartment is warm and if windows are open at night very noisy from the Italian below and the street noise in bedrooms. We had an issue with parking but soon sorted out by the owners plus telly did not work for a couple of days. I would recommend this apartment to families quite a few stairs to negotiate so not much good if you have any disabilities.

But is poorly maintained it was difficult to park as the overgrowth of bushes obscured the number and reduced the parking space by about 2 foot. The property itself is poorly equipped. Tv too small for room size, no Wi-Fi, no DVD, radio/music player, poor cooking equipment, no baking trays for oven, non stick pans no longer non stick. Venician blinds only in bedrooms not keeping out light from streat outside needs black out curtains. Property poorly cleaned, cobwebs and dust on skirtings, cornicing, window ledges, Windows dirty inside and out.

The outside areas including parking facilities are managed by Leasecare Ltd who have been informed of the overgrown bushes and we have been advised this will be addressed. A DVD player is to be installed (the radio is integral to the TV), new baking trays are to be purchased. The blinds in the bedrooms are new however if they are not adequate we also add curtains. We consider the standard of cleanliness at the flat to be of upmost importance and imperative to a pleasant stay. For this this reason your concerns over the cleanliness of the flat have since been investigated. We have since replaced the cleaner and are now using a Sykes Cottages recommended cleaning company. We found the sofa to be a little low for our comfort and the double bed mattress a little on the thin side but we managed with them both for a week.
